Does tracert work on vpn addresses?
😊true
My professor had a four hour lecture on traceroute, you just explained it much clearer in 9 minutes. Well done.
😂
Because geniuses won't need any recognition from anyone.
I agree more videos plz 🥺👉🏽👈🏽
Yes, but probably within that 4 hours You have learned tracert in much more detail.
It`s like comparing 9 min video to 20 pages of Cisco material. Go and watch from this channel all networking materials, and try to pass CCNA exam :)
How do you spend 5 hours explaining this lol
Thank you for explaining what the command, tracert, does. Especially when there are asterisks involved!
You explained way easier than books !!!
UA-cam should consider itself honoured by having this channel on its platform. Remarkable
You literally make more sense in less than 30 minutes than my professors do in an entire semester 😭
What I love the most about these videos is I already know so much about them, but I'll always find little bits here and there that I never knew.
As an IT guy, watching just for entertainment and killing Sunday breakfast time... Nicely done vid!
Same!
Great explanation tho :-)
I never read or watched a better explanation than this,
This channel is amazingly helpful.
Thanks
Glad you think so!
God damn, this channel is the best! No fluff just straight to the point. I feel like learning is so effortless watching these videos, where as others my mind starts to wander.
One thing to add is that the way it determines the hops is by sending a ping with the TTL (Time To Live) set to 1 to the destination. The first hop decrements the TTL to 0 and sends an ICMP TTL exceeded message. The host then sends another ping with the TTL set to 2 so the second hop will send the ICMP(Internet Control Message Protocol) TTL exceeded message. Wash rince repeat until destination is reached or the max hop count is reached (default is 30) The messages do not start with the TTL set to 30, that is just what the program will limit the maximum TTL to by default. IE if you do -H 4 it still will send the first ping with a TTL of 1 so that the first hop will decrement and send the ICMP TTL exceeded message. Then 2 3 and 4 so the trace route will end at the fourth hop. If intersted according to RFC 792 the type/code of TTL exceeded is Type 11 Code 0. IMHO this video would be much better with a wireshark capture of a real tracerroute showing the TTL exceeded and the ICMP TTL exceeded messages; however, I get that this is just a basic introduction. Sorry this is so long.
Your comment plus this video have saved me many hours of work and research to build my own traceroute for a course. I don't know why my college can't use plain language explanations and simple but descriptive videos... anyway thank you so much!

Salut! merci beaucoup Professeur, tu as fais une excellente video sur Traceroute.
As someone said that if you can explain this to 15 year old. This is the best explanation of any topics which i came across in my life.
Very comprehensive, I must say.
Whenever I come to your channel with a question I go clarified always
Thanks, great video IMO. You chose your words carefully when you said that traceroute reports the path TO the destination. In my experience, it does not always follow the the same path gets used for the return trip as is always shown in the animation. Sometimes, it is useful to have someone on the other end doing a traceroute in the opposite direction to detect slowdowns.
Most helpful, easy to understand, great animation, videos on UA-cam that truly help me with my studies for Cyber Security. Thank you so much dude. Btw you sound just like "Company Man"!!! lol
