    That’s the best detailed instruction video I’ve seen in a long time, you showed everything live steps, not stopped & skipped any steps. Thank You ! Was very informative. Good Job. If you lived near me I would’ve hired you. I have this problem with both of my Tundra Doors. I’ve owned my truck for 24 yrs. I’m shocked this is happening to me.

    Thank you very much! I did this a couple years ago on my driver's door with the help of your videos. It's still working great. I should have done it immediately on my passenger door since it recently got stuck to where I couldn't open it. Had to cut off the latch. Major pain!

    Thank you That fixed my truck perfect. My assembly is discontinued and no one could find a used one, if they coud it was $400.00. The cost of the repair was $5.00 for a new clip for one of the rods.

    Got a 2000 tundra with this issue in my shop - thank you for your efforts. It helped me to locate the lever to aim for to get the door to open

    Thanks, mine just broke. Called dealership said it's $367.00. I'm no good at fixing but I took it to a friend who has a mechanic shop and I guess he's done them before. Said it's an easy fix. The hard part is getting the door open. Thanks.

    Good video, is that an original. My original latch had a plastic coating on the striker. My issue is the plastic coating are damaged and the striker wont latched .

    Great video, most helpful one of them all for my problem. I haven't dug into much it yet, but my 2005 Sequoia has the issue of the latches (drivers & fwd passenger doors) moving to the closed position every time I open the doors. So, when I go to shut the door the closed latches slam the striker hard. Both started doing this within weeks of each other. I don't want to pay the huge expense of replacing these assy's so your video is very helpful to understand how the assy's work. I assume the latch springs are likely bad & hopefully I can replace them with springs from a hardware supply store or something. Since I see no videos addressing my problem so I assume most have given up & bought the expensive assemblies.
    I already dealt with the hell of the rear hatch plastic handle issue: just buy that cheap online handle assy (with the steel handle on it!) & take the steel handle off & install it on your existing OEM Toyota-engineered handle assy. Fixed forever! If your handle has a little too much play in it, bend out a little the arm that holds the cable (then reattach cable). That should take out the slack in the handle.

    Heyya Mako, your video did help (thank you), but my Sequoia is a 2005 & you probably know by now that plate is riveted on. I'm unsure of how to put a video on UA-cam so I thought you might be interested in doing it, it's be a great help to people. I fixed both my 2005 Sequoia latches (now at $440 each if you simply replace them or $1222.00 if the dealer replaces two of them for you). I saved a lot of money fixing them myself and a video would help all the DIY's. You'd be the first guy to do a video b/c I don't see any on there on how to actually repair the latches (only vids to R&R the expensive latches). My symptoms were that the latches, upon opening the doors, would not spring back into the normal open position--so when you'd go to shut the doors it would slam the striker hard. You'd have to lift the latch to the open position every time you opened the door. So the fix is easy. On the plate side, just drill the heads off the two big rivets, remove the one screw & I found the plastic was peeling off the actual latching pieces & may have dislocated the spring b/c the springs were out of the grooves on both latches. Upon drilling the heads off the latches, the rivets are still swaged into the other end so nothing falls apart--you just put the springs back where they belong & put the plates back on! Bam! Fixed! Save $1222.00! Gotta love it. One warning, just like you said, when I took the plate off one of them, one of the two springs went flying & I never could find it (I took a spring out of an ink pen & put that in--works fine, but I'd recommend a slightly heavier spring from hardware store or specialty spring store.

      So the screw is the only thing holding the plate on after you were done? thanks for your comments ... having same issue on 06 Tundra

    • @randychristoffersen6841
      @randychristoffersen6841 2 роки тому

      @@bryanhiggins3816 Hiya Brian, Yeah just the screw, but also, I just drilled out enough of the rivets to pop off the plate. The rivets are still swaged onto the other side & holding things together. So when I put the plate back on the rivets (& that one screw) all hold the plate in place. That was 9 months ago & both latches are still working great.

  • @DrShout

    I plan on replacing mine… The door unlocks, but I’m having to keep lifting on the handle (outside or in cab) a dozen times and it finally releases. I’m trying to purchase just what I need…Are these 2 separate components? The Latch Mechanism and the Actuator Assembly or is it just the Door Lock Assembly?
    Im no mechanic, but knowing would keep me from getting taken by the shop.

    Thanks for great videos. Trying this repair now on my '01 Tundra. What is the thickness of the sheet metal part you fabricated to put under the pressed washer?

    • @mako00671
      @mako00671  3 роки тому +1

      It might have been approximately 1/32 thickness. Find something that will take up the slag and easy enough to manipulate.

      @@mako00671 Thanks I will try that! I will update here after my repair attempt. I had the same problem as you on my '01 extended cab Tundra, but was fortunately able to kick the door open from inside while holding the inside handle open.
      I was able to get the door latch/actuator assembly out of the door by watching a couple of other you tube videos plus yours, thanks again for posting your videos. I also prefer to make my own fix instead of wasting hundreds on a refurb part.

    The problem with my 01 Sequoia is that the latch stays lock when I open the door, I have to manually move the latch with a screw driver to close the door. My assembly is different , I could not removed the plate when I took that screw because it has rivets. I could not fix it!!

    Yup Toyota does charge $362.76 and a Refurbished one is $240. Mines giving me issues with the latch I’m sure it just needs those springs replaced but I’d just have to find it somewhere. These things shouldn’t be more than $100.
