Jonas Hellborg has mastered the physical techniques of bass playing and then completely submerged them in service to his musical ideas. He's clearly spent more time listening deeply to music than most players have I suspect. I hope to see him perform live some day.
I'm impressed because, as a bass player and sound engineer, the things he talks about here resonate a lot with me since they're applicable in both domains.
so wonderful. i don't even play bass (properly) and this makes me want to pick one up again. It's amazing to track Jonas's career, exploding onto to the scene with mahavishnu, and then shawn lane. I'm so glad he's still around and has evolved into a more insightful musician who still has his chops.
As bassplaying music afficionado I grew up with the music and playing of JH...I really have lots of his recordings...my musical religion was to learn from different bassplayers like Jaco Pastorius,Jack Bruce,Markus Miller and all that great guys...but It's always Jonas who influenced in the best sense...saw him several times live in different constellations...always best level...go on Jonas 👍💪👍
But, when he starts getting into the "slap topic, his whole tone sounds very similmar to Stanley Clarke's tone on "Silly Putty".You can hear it here: ua-cam.com/video/fVoGJ0FKttQ/v-deo.html
Can t describe how much i respect and admire this man. I m not even close to him but a lot of my style comes from his knowledge
Thoughtful and absorbing.
