As I've grown older, my appreciation for the Boy Scout Hero archetype has grown immensely. There have been so many times recently when I've been reading a Captain America or Superman comic where a glimmer of hope comes alive in my cold, dead heart.
This is why the Captain America trilogy and his other MCU appearances show why Cap is just far, far superior to Superman in the DCEU. From his heroism to his character development, Cap is way better written and stays true to his comic roots, even in a darker world. Superman, on the other hand, feels way too dark and brooding in the DCEU. Cap's journey is all about staying true to his values, courage, hope, and doing the right thing, no matter how tough it gets. Even when the world around him gets messy, he’s still that beacon of inspiration. Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League is the opposite. They try to make him struggle with his identity, but in doing so, they strip away the hopeful, boy scout vibe that defines him. Thankfully Superman (2025) so far looks much closer to what you'd expect from Superman, leaving enough room for some darkness as well but not outright removing the Boy Scout Hero archetype.
That elevator scene is one of the most perfectly choreographed scenes in all of the MCU. Just one tiny area with a bunch of people shoved into it fighting!
Honestly, the Captain America movies are some of the best in the MCU. Also, fun fact; the leader on the ship Cap fights at the start of the movie is played by UFC legend George “Rush” St.Pierre
Cap and Guardians of the Galaxy are the most consistently good movies series within the MCU. Alp of the other trilogies/quadrilogies have one that's not as good as the rest, but thr Cap and GotG films are all winners. I guess we'll see if that stays up with the new one coming out, though. Fingers crossed.
21:25 The actor who plays Pierce, Robert Redford, used to do a lot of action espionage spy movies where he was the hero uncovering secrets about corrupt governments, which is why that had him play the villain working for a corrupt part of the government in this one.
Fun fact: Cap's list of things he needs to catch up on is different on the region you're in. Like the South Korea version has Oldboy, the UK version has the beatles, and Aistralia has Tim Tams. All of them have Rocky.
Just a thing, the odd sound that plays whenever The Winter Soldier shows up, is a distorted version of *spoiler's* scream from The First Avenger, meaning whenever the Winter Soldier is "on duty", he's there, only able to watch... and scream.
And this is where the fandom went "We're back baby!" After the previous two lackluster films people were seriously worried that phase one was a flash in the pan, until this film restored confidence. 'Murica!
22:14 I love whenever you give us insights into your film making knowledge, really interesting stuff! Also I love how in this scene in particular when the guy is talking about destroying the world to change it the camera is angled in such a way that the outside of the building is used as a visual barrier separating him from the world outside both physically and metaphorically.
Aw man. The Captain America Trilogy is one of my favorite series of movies. It's between this and the third one that is my favorite, depending on my mood.
@@iAmPimmiCue Personally disagree. It only started to get good near the end of season 1, but its quality was in its ability to adapt. I had fun through to its end.
Another reason "this is Steve Rogers " starting his speech like that not with " this is captain America " tells you everything you need to know about him .
George St. Pierre is playing the D-list villain "Batroc the Leaper." He's a French merc/burgaler who has had a few encounters with Cap and Spidey. Batroc is a skilled soldier, kick-boxer, and parkourist.
Its really cute (in a non asshole way) that so many people nowadays call out D list villains they love and mark out to it no matter how small the role. Its why so many people marked out over The Spot in Spiderverse and others are jokingly/not jokingly debating The Wall being the villain of the next movie.
the thing my mom pointed out about Steve not wearing a helmet when he rides his motorcycle is that he was frozen before the law that made that mandatory was introduced, and apparently no one's ever corrected him
I remember a couple movies back Alicia saying how much she loves him with Peggy, and my first thought was, "Oh... That Winter Soldier scene is going to destroy her." Looks like I was right.
Fun fact: The skinny guy who wouldn't launch the ship and said "Captain's orders" was the same guy Tony caught playing Galiga in Avengers. Hes kind of a fun minor recurring character. But helps the movies feel connected still
That is super not true at all, that guy's name is Cameron and shows back up I'm age of ultron while the other guy is only known as galaga guy, not same actors or anything. Not sure where you heard that or just making stuff up
Personally I think this movie hit a perfect mix of humour and seriousness for an MCU movie, they don't always get the ratio quite right (probably because it's going to be slightly different for each movie, I don't envy the writing team one bit) but when they do it's *chef's kiss
34:27 - 34:47 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣My God, Alicia, the way you gush during your reactions is so *pwecious!* It really makes me smile; I love it so much. Glad you love the intro of The Falcon.
They don't do as much with Sam's backstory as they could in these movies. He's a veteran and a councillor supporting other veterans but there are several times where that understanding of trauma could come in useful and it's never addressed. He was also a rescue paratrooper, iirc. His job was to deploy behind enemy lines, in the most dangerous part of the battlefield, to help extract soldiers who are being overwhelmed. They never reference that, either. He's never any more willing or able to risk his life to save others than anyone else, he never demonstrates any exceptional skill at rescue or first aid. They gave him a very specific and specialised backstory and then never address anything that happened to him before this film.
It's the weakest part of the general MCU films outside gotg. All these unique characters with their own abilities and back stories yet almost no real interaction or depth. It's why the greatest sin of the MCU in my opinion is the massive amount of solo films. For origins that's okay but everybody had 2-3 solo films and it just didn't need to be a thing. Most of the films after phase 1 should've been like winter soldier where it's multiple heroes at once for smaller side stories. Outside the star of age of Ultron they never truly feel like a team/family which drastically reduces the impact of civil war and endgame
They ruin him the most in his own series. He looks at Walker being unstable and showing sign of PTSD and Sam just avoid him instead of trying being together and watching him? Sam is veteran councillors for fuck sake! Walker is an ass too, but Sam also is one of the reasons Walker turns violent.
@@plstmb6000 I'd say john walker is not an "ass" he's worlds better then buck and sam in that god awful show. but I'm with ya on that whole ruining him in that show thing.
@Aliciaxlife Scarlett Johansson was actually pregnant when they were filming this, hence why she might have sounded off compared to the previous marvel films she was in before this one
38:37 In the comics, Maria often butts heads with superheroes and even Nick Fury. But when it's time to save lives, knowing she has your back is beyond value.
@@Linerunner99 You would crawl over broken glass to lick Scarlett's shoes, just like everybody else. Anyway, your loss. Maria Hill was waiting for us at the hotel and we had an amazing day, and night.
8:00 She was also extremely pregnant while filming some of these movies. Not sure if it was only Avengers or also here. They had to remove the massive belly with CGI, body doubles, etc.
Filming for winter soldier was from April to June of 2013 and her kid was born at the end of August of 2014 which means she likely got pregnant around November of 2013 so no chance she was with child during that but yes for age of ultron which had principal photography from March through August
I attended a special screening of this movie back in 2014, then went to Washington DC during spring break. It was funny because when we got there, we thought “They really cleaned up the destroyed helicarriers!”
After Fury goes down, Alicia ruminates the potential of transferring his consciousness to another body, not knowing that we'd find out later in the movie that Arnim Zola practically did just that with his own consciousness.
Lore fact: Sam Wilson "The Falcon" was the first Black American superhero in mainstream comics, while Black Panther was the first Black Superhero in mainstream comic in general. Plus, he was created to not be a sidekick but an equal hero in his own right standing alongside Cap and the rest.
You know why this movie is so good? Because it's the one where they had an actual Marvel comic books writer working on the script. Ed Brubaker, who used to be the main writer on Captain America for a while, helped with the script. There you go, now you know why we loved reading Marvel comics.
As opposed to my last comment of "This movie definitely happened" Holy shit this movie rules. This was the first one since Iron Man 1 that really captured that superhero magic for me. Bucky is done so well in this, hes synpathetic, threatening, well acted, and written effectively. The choreography in this is just cheffs kiss, some of my favorite action scenes in the MCU. Steve's character growth away from his more idealist nature is well displayed and understandable given the shit he's gone through recently. The main 3 have great chemistry and bounce off each other super well. I think Anthony Mackie was a really underrated addition to the MCU at the time, thankfully hes had more time to show off his acting ability. Anyway, love this movie, one of my favs, murica. Yeah. Also as a MMA fan, the cameo by Goerge Saint Pierre was really cool for me.
This is the movie that made me check out on EVER taking it seriously when a character supposedly died, in these movies. They used EVERY piece of movie language to say Fury was definitely dead. They showed the body, post death announcement. You DON'T get back from that, and maintain viewer faith that death is to be taken seriously.
When I saw this in the theater, I had a small freak out when the name "Stephen Strange" was mentioned, given he's one of my all-time favorite characters. When my mom saw this one, just as the identity of the Winter Soldier was revealed, my mom went, "Oh, please don't let it be his friend." On this somber note, I read an essay about how the plot of HYDRA infiltrating and taking control of SHIELD paralleled how some Neo N*zi groups in the USA were founded by WW2 veterans and plotted to get into politics in order to counter the Civil Rights Movement.
Fun fact, the little notebook that Cap keeps, the list of stuff he needs to catch up on, changes from country to country. It’s region specific along with the dubbed language of the movie.
This is my favorite MCU film, so I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! The action and choreography are incredible; really grounding the idea that Steve is first and foremost a soldier. I also love what they did with Natasha's character and her dynamic with Steve. Personally, I think this film gives her more depth than any others, including her stand-alone movie. Also introducing Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon), who is an absolute treat both on screen and behind the scenes. 'Merica!
Pay attention to the music Nick Fury is listening to in Captain America’s apartment and remember it or at least do your best to remember it for some back round the song is called “It’s been a long long time” it was a popular song at the end of World War 2 because the lyrics were written from the perspective of a person welcoming home their spouse at the end of the War. Edit to explain what's going on with Black Widow and like why she may sound so diffrent to is becuase the actress Scarlett Johansson was actually pregnant with her first child during the filming of this movie the Winter Soldier and during the filming of Avengers Age of Ultron she had three stunt doubles take over on the action scenes for her when she would normally do the stunts on her own after training and when she was on screen her baby bump was cgied away she later successfully gave birth to her first daughter Rose Dorothy Dauriac on August 30, 2014 in NYC.
The way Bucky saves Cap at the end of this movie is a good sum up for how Cap's character changes in this movie. He's red, white, and blue... but unconscious, bleeding, dragged through the mud and questioning loyalties everywhere.
34:26 Alicia, your pop off is SO justified. Sam was my favorite addition to the cast as a certain character and Anthony Mackie brought a special kind of enthusiasm. He’s Cap’s “wingman”
"I watched the Muppets Christmas Carol before this." Well, and now I'm imagining Miss Piggy in a Black Widow outfit, doing all her stunts. Thanks, brain.
Interesting notes: 1. In the comics, Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, is actually a mutant (as in X-Men) with a telepathic link to birds. 2. There used to be a saying at Marvel that the only characters who absolutely could NOT be brought back from the dead were Ben Parker (Spider-Man's uncle) and Bucky Barnes... until they introduced the Winter Soldier.
During the turbulent 60s, everyone was yelling at each other about Vietnam. A lot of those on the pro-war side of the argument invoked patriotism, but frequently made arguments that were at odds with the basic values America was founded on. This was when Marvel did the "frozen in ice" storyline and brought Captain America back. The idea was that Steve Rogers was from the generation that fought the Nazis, got America through the Great Depression. That generation were also idealists who kept voting FDR back in office. The idea was that Steve Rogers would act as a fresh set of eyes on the Vietnam argument. This has been the function of Steve Rogers in the Marvel universe ever since. He is delivering harsh messages to jingoists that they probably would not accept from anyone else. When the PATRIOT act passed in the Bush II years, a lot of conservatives made excuses for the unconstitutional surveillance powers the state claimed for itself. They excused it by saying "Well, I haven't done anything wrong, so I don't mind if the government violates my Constitutional rights and spies on me without a warrant." This movie is all about the surveillance state in a post-9/11 world, and many of the same conservatives who argued in favor of the PATRIOT act cheered for Steve Rogers in this as he metaphorically dismantled the surveillance state. ====== Also, I want to stalk about Sam Wilson. I was a boy in the 1970s when I started reading Marvel comics. Falcon was far from the first Black superhero, but he was the first non-white hero that I came across in the comic books as a boy, so he will always have a special place in my heart. These characters have been around for decades, and everyone has a different interpretation of these characters, but I always saw Sam Wilson's story function as the character who introduces the topic of racism to Captain America stories. Comic book Sam Wilson is a social worker rather than Air Force pararescue (which to be honest is a pretty cool backstory for a superhero if you know what pararescue does). This gives lots of opportunities for the topic of racism to come up. Further, Sam is an adult rather than a teenager, which means he can occasionally correct Steve Rogers as an equal on matters of race, which he did, even back in the 1970s. Unfortunately, I feel that the MCU did not honor the source material. The Sam Wilson character was not used to bring up the topic of racism in these movies, and that disappointed me. On the plus side, they made up for lost time in a big way with the Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series on Disney+. Not only did they finally use Sam Wilson to talk about racism in a big way, but they also introduced another Captain America character named Isiah Bradley. I don't want to spoil anything, but Isiah has much harsher things to say about racism than Sam does. Anyway, the closest we got to Sam Wilson bringing up the topic of racism was that brief mention of the Trouble Man soundtrack. That disappointed me even if I was excited to see Sam in the MCU. ====== I'll be honest, I usually skip the intro section on these reaction videos, but for some reason, I don't skip yours. I hope you don't mind, but I deliberately do not mention the code word in my comments. ====== 3:46 The cool thing about Steve Rogers' list here is that different countries saw a different list of the things they thought were important between WW2 and now. ====== 4:05 I adore the sibling-like friendship that develops between Natasha and Steve. I also like her friendship with Clint/Hawkeye. In the comic books, Natasha and Clint are exes, and I kind of like their MCU friendship a little better. ====== 5:02 If you are having trouble hearing dialog relative to other sounds, you might have a bad downmix from 5.1 to stereo. Not sure if that is a problem with whoever encoded the movie you are streaming or if that is something you can fix in your setup. ====== 8:32 The man with the big butt is Batroc the Leaper, played by a French Canadian MMA star. ====== 10:59 I love this story that Nick Fury tells. By this point in the MCU, it is easy to think of Nick Fury as some kind of god of espionage and forget that he is an ordinary human. Here, he tells a story that could have come from almost any African-American, which reminds you that he is human just before they put his life in danger in that amazing car chase. ====== FYI, Hydra also inflitrated the USSR, not just the USA. Both the Winter Soldier program and the Red Room (that created Natasha) were programs that the Soviets thought was theirs, but was really run by Hydra.
"Can't you just shove his consciousness into another body kr something?". And with THAT, I now vote that the next series she needs to watch is Altered Carbon!
I'm so happy to see your reaction to this movie, because it is one of my favorite movies in the MCU. One of my favorite things about these Capitan America movies is that it shows you just how strong/fast he actually is. As a kid, watching Super Hero cartoons or reading comic books, I saw him do these incredible feats and It doesn't really phase me because I would think to myself "yeah that makes sense, because it's a comic book/cartoon" but seeing Captain America in these movies really shows off just how incredible he is.
Wield that *shield* for *MURICA.* I genuinely enjoyed the heck out of Alicia instantly adoring Sam and wanting to see him in more. You're in luck, Rat Queen! Far as I'm concerned, he never stops being fantastic.
I love when Alicia nerds out on things like shot composition, lighting and lenses etc. 😊 i love how she can talk about everything from psychology, to filming, to plot, but then can also talk about some hood sht. 😁
Alicia: “Gandalf is my favorite character!” Gandalf: dies in the first movie. Returns in the second. Alicia: “Bucky is my favorite character!” Bucky: Dies in the first movie. I’m sensing a pattern.
"Even when I had nothing, I still had Bucky" - my favourite line in the whole MCU, shows loyalty through Respect. Edit - Does anyone think Alicia's curse has broken? "That's my favourite character", then the character suddenly dies.
My favorite MCU movie glad you enjoyed it so much! For the knife moves Sebastian practiced a ton to get it right. There are interviews where he talks about how times he would just be walking around his place with a plastic knife practicing to make sure he had all the moves down. True dedication and talent.
This movie is something special. It shows you that Captain America is not a mindless patriot that only serves his country, he is a man of strong conviction, clear morals and sense of right. He stands for true justice and freedom even if it means to go against the government, and also works as an ideal to strive towards (what DCEU Superman couldn't do because of the terrible writting)
While Tony Stark/Iron Man will always have my heart, these movies saw me gaining a HUGE amount of respect and appreciation for Cap. Very quickly put him in my number two favorite spot.
This movie really is genuine real world politics being done right. From using the real world Operation Paperclip to using the genuine fear the American citizens have of the country becoming a Surveillance state with Project Insight. And showing that yeah, we have some bad people (some who yes are even working for foreign powers) but we also have good people. This is as close to real life as the MCU can feel and that's why we love it.
fun fact: batroc, the french guy cap fought on the ship, was played by george "rush" st.pierre or GSP for short. he was a legit UFC fighter, and champion of both the welterweight and middle divisions. and considered by myself and many others to be one of, if not the greatest MMA fighter of all time. his character, batroc, was a captain america villain from the comics. because of his leaping ablity and kicking style, he was called "batroc the leaper".
Alicia your comment about Bucky losing his mask and Cap going 'Bucky?!' being an anime ass moment has activated me and I will now rewatch the MCU with Japanese dub. That scene in particular is great btw, Cap's 'Bucky?!' in Japanese just sound so insanely anime, it's crazy.
Clicked so fast as soon I saw that thumbnail. I'm glad you liked it as much as I did. This is one of the best MCU films for me, if not *thee* best. Captain America 1 is like, yeah Steve is a great man. And then Captain America 2 comes along like, oh shoot Steve is also a badass. He kicked so much ass in this movie compared to the previous ones. It's just so well-executed on every aspect. Thanks for all of the insight on film-making! And I'm not even surprised when you kept calling the plot before it happened. Shield/'Murica.
I'm mad she figured out it was Bucky before the reveal. I bet her reaction would have been great to see knowing she loved Bucky from the first movie. Then again, they revealed his face in the dark that wasn't completely covered, still....would have actually been awesome to see her so shocked
I swear, you have THE best animations out of any vtuber anywhere. The others feel like an avatar they give keyboard commands to. Yours feel like it's filming you and adding a cool filter, making it feel like I'm seeing your actual reactions, not just a "Shock and Awe standard command" reaction
In comics, Natasha is as old as Captain America because she was given an alternate version of the Super Soldier Serum during the war. She was also a mind controlled agent like Bucky, they were once an item but have no memories of it. None of this is canon to the films.
Fun fact: The villain Captain America has a one on one fight with, is "Batroc the Leaper". He's the greatest assassin in the marvel lineup. Batroc gets 10 million dollars just to answer a text, Deadpool gets (maybe) enough money to pay his rent.

All of them have Rocky.
37:17 Remember in the first film, Howard Stark said “Hydra won’t attack you with a pocket knife?”
Yeeeeeah.
Just a thing, the odd sound that plays whenever The Winter Soldier shows up, is a distorted version of *spoiler's* scream from The First Avenger, meaning whenever the Winter Soldier is "on duty", he's there, only able to watch... and scream.
Oh wow!
I cant believe they turned that man's dramatic death yell into a twitch raid announcement plug for this
@@daysand123 I can't believe you just made one of the funniest jokes I've seen all week! You have my respect! :)
11:28 Alicia: predicts the villain plot well.
Also Alicia: condemns characters by declaring them her favorites.
Yeah that’s hers superpower
Who'd she condemn?
And this is where the fandom went "We're back baby!"
After the previous two lackluster films people were seriously worried that phase one was a flash in the pan, until this film restored confidence.
'Murica!
Dark World was goated.
@@Serryy it was alright imo. Thor and Loki's relationship is what I love about it most.
@@chrisnotpratt1903 Odin was great as well. Definitely the strongest Thor movie which is sadly not saying much :D
No one I know was worried about the MCU at this point. Just people crying about the Mandarin.
The Golden Age of the MCU, so many bangers starting with this one.
*Sam Wilson* is known as *Falcon.* In comics he even has a falcon pet sidekick named Redwing.
He has it in the mcu too only it's a drone. (Not a spoiler because it's not a plot point. Just part of his load out)
Falcon is nice hero, but his origin story is very weird. Not to mention, he was really pushed into things way above him. Damn modern Marvel.
Sam has latent Mutant ability to communicate with birds from a distance.
I personally would prefer they kept Redwing as a bird.
Which Anthony Mackie has several times asked to be included in the movies and they keep cockblocking him.
Couldn't help but see Winter Soilder yell "AGAIN!" every time he swung a punch at Cap.
Aw man.
The Captain America Trilogy is one of my favorite series of movies. It's between this and the third one that is my favorite, depending on my mood.
It may not make your list, but they actually made a TV show about Peggy Carter that was surprisingly good.
Agreed! And so was Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Two shows that got lost in the churn.
Agents of SHIELD were leaning too much into Inhumans without mutants in their roster.
@@IamMeHere2See AoS until after season 4 then it became terrible
@ For a bit, but they left that behind before the end. AoS worked best as a sort-of-variety show, with the challenges changing season-to-season.
@@iAmPimmiCue Personally disagree. It only started to get good near the end of season 1, but its quality was in its ability to adapt. I had fun through to its end.
"The price of freedom is high and it's a price I'm willing to take." That's why we love you, Steve.
Another reason "this is Steve Rogers " starting his speech like that not with " this is captain America " tells you everything you need to know about him .
"The Price of Freedom is steep"
- Zack Fair from Final Fantasy VII
Fun fact: The villian at 8:40 is gsp. He's a former 2 division UFC champion and is considered the one of the best to ever do it
George St. Pierre is playing the D-list villain "Batroc the Leaper." He's a French merc/burgaler who has had a few encounters with Cap and Spidey.
Batroc is a skilled soldier, kick-boxer, and parkourist.
Finally someone mentioned the goat
Its really cute (in a non asshole way) that so many people nowadays call out D list villains they love and mark out to it no matter how small the role. Its why so many people marked out over The Spot in Spiderverse and others are jokingly/not jokingly debating The Wall being the villain of the next movie.
the thing my mom pointed out about Steve not wearing a helmet when he rides his motorcycle is that he was frozen before the law that made that mandatory was introduced, and apparently no one's ever corrected him
That's actually hilarious lol
I'm so glad you didn't get spoiled by Marvel Rivals. Bucky is playable there btw. Sam's super hero name for future reference is "Falcon".
Yeah, the directors for this movie were so good they were eventually put in charge of the biggest movie in the MCU (and at one point of all time).
The Writers AND the Directors.
The Fantastic Four as I call them.
I remember a couple movies back Alicia saying how much she loves him with Peggy, and my first thought was, "Oh... That Winter Soldier scene is going to destroy her."
Looks like I was right.
Fun fact:
The skinny guy who wouldn't launch the ship and said "Captain's orders" was the same guy Tony caught playing Galiga in Avengers.
It's also different per person watching.
Looking back, this movie still holds up REALLY well. Not just as a Cap movie, but a good spy thriller movie in general
I love how alicia loves Sam right away.
38:37
In the comics, Maria often butts heads with superheroes and even Nick Fury. But when it's time to save lives, knowing she has your back is beyond value.
Couldn't wait for this one
When captain america throws his mighty shield
4:15 Scarlett pulls up, Cap goes in. They both look at each other, then at you: "Aren't you coming, handsome?"
I would die on the spot.
Nah... tell her to ditch blondie, pick up another hottie (I'm thinking Maria Hill will do) and THEN I'm in.
Wow!
I attended a special screening of this movie back in 2014, then went to Washington DC during spring break. It was funny because when we got there, we thought “They really cleaned up the destroyed helicarriers!”
the fact that BACHROC the LEAPER made it into the MCU! XD (After seeing him in the Ultimate Spiderman show ) XD
*Batroc
After Fury goes down, Alicia ruminates the potential of transferring his consciousness to another body, not knowing that we'd find out later in the movie that Arnim Zola practically did just that with his own consciousness.
Late reply, but Fury did indeed change bodies in the comics. I'm not sure on the details, but I know he did that.
"plz keep sam in"
everyone watching this looking at each other tryna not spoil shit lmfao
I love how much she loves Sam
Lore fact: Sam Wilson "The Falcon" was the first Black American superhero in mainstream comics, while Black Panther was the first Black Superhero in mainstream comic in general. Plus, he was created to not be a sidekick but an equal hero in his own right standing alongside Cap and the rest.
AAAHH!!! YES!! WE’RE HERE!!!
You know why this movie is so good?
Because it's the one where they had an actual Marvel comic books writer working on the script.
Ed Brubaker, who used to be the main writer on Captain America for a while, helped with the script.
There you go, now you know why we loved reading Marvel comics.
As opposed to my last comment of "This movie definitely happened"
Holy shit this movie rules.
When my mom saw this one, just as the identity of the Winter Soldier was revealed, my mom went, "Oh, please don't let it be his friend."
On this somber note, I read an essay about how the plot of HYDRA infiltrating and taking control of SHIELD paralleled how some Neo N*zi groups in the USA were founded by WW2 veterans and plotted to get into politics in order to counter the Civil Rights Movement.
Winter Soldier is a great movie you'll watch again.
again.
again.
again.
He’s Cap’s “wingman”
i was waiting for Falcons Entrance with wings, and her reaction was on point, so happy :-)
19:50 😂This had my dying. When your observation skills are telling you something but you don't know what.
"I watched the Muppets Christmas Carol before this." Well, and now I'm imagining Miss Piggy in a Black Widow outfit, doing all her stunts. Thanks, brain.
Peggy's scene is easily top 5 most heartbreaking scenes put to cinema; it was so well acted and shot and edited by everyone involved.
Interesting notes:
It was not a marvel saying it was a comic book saying and it was only uncle Ben, bucky Barnes and Jason Todd stay dead
HAHAAHAHA She said "I hope this movie holds up to the first one" HAHAHAHAHAHH
*ahem* yes, yes it does.
Is it Shield, S.H.I.E.L.D. or 'Murica?
======
Also, I want to stalk about Sam Wilson.

I'll be honest, I usually skip the intro section on these reaction videos, but for some reason, I don't skip yours. I hope you don't mind, but I deliberately do not mention the code word in my comments.
======
3:46 The cool thing about Steve Rogers' list here is that different countries saw a different list of the things they thought were important between WW2 and now.
======
4:05 I adore the sibling-like friendship that develops between Natasha and Steve. I also like her friendship with Clint/Hawkeye. In the comic books, Natasha and Clint are exes, and I kind of like their MCU friendship a little better.
======
5:02 If you are having trouble hearing dialog relative to other sounds, you might have a bad downmix from 5.1 to stereo. Not sure if that is a problem with whoever encoded the movie you are streaming or if that is something you can fix in your setup.
======
8:32 The man with the big butt is Batroc the Leaper, played by a French Canadian MMA star.
======
10:59 I love this story that Nick Fury tells. By this point in the MCU, it is easy to think of Nick Fury as some kind of god of espionage and forget that he is an ordinary human. Here, he tells a story that could have come from almost any African-American, which reminds you that he is human just before they put his life in danger in that amazing car chase.

FYI, Hydra also inflitrated the USSR, not just the USA.
Wield that *shield* for *MURICA.*
I genuinely enjoyed the heck out of Alicia instantly adoring Sam and wanting to see him in more.
Alicia: “Gandalf is my favorite character!”
Gandalf: dies in the first movie. Returns in the second.
Alicia: “Bucky is my favorite character!”
Bucky: Dies in the first movie.
I’m sensing a pattern.
"I just thought I recognized him from a different movie" yeah you did! Captain America: The First Avenger!
This movie taught me terror can be caused from a superhero movie. It remains one of my fav marvel stuff ever
I love how much alicia loves love. It feels nice to have somebody getting really invested in the characters and story.
3:25 she's gonna be happy
This movie is something special. It shows you that Captain America is not a mindless patriot that only serves his country, he is a man of strong conviction, clear morals and sense of right. He stands for true justice and freedom even if it means to go against the government, and also works as an ideal to strive towards (what DCEU Superman couldn't do because of the terrible writting)
Lol at Alicia's logic. "At least they're trying to kill him for the content of his character, and not the color of his skin." 🤣
Yeah unlike a certain Orange man of recent times.
True racial equality.
I suppose I can't be surprised that she recognized Bucky...but she really should have recognized Winter Soldier from Marvel Rivals, lol XD
13:38 sometimes, it's hard to love love, but it's worth it. Love how emotional you get.
100% agree.
I knew you were gonna LOVE this one, it's honestly peak Marvel
fun fact: batroc, the french guy cap fought on the ship, was played by george "rush" st.pierre or GSP for short. he was a legit UFC fighter, and champion of both the welterweight and middle divisions. and considered by myself and many others to be one of, if not the greatest MMA fighter of all time.
his character, batroc, was a captain america villain from the comics. because of his leaping ablity and kicking style, he was called "batroc the leaper".
Captain America and the Falcon have been a fighting duo since the '70's

I'm mad she figured out it was Bucky before the reveal. I bet her reaction would have been great to see knowing she loved Bucky from the first movie. Then again, they revealed his face in the dark that wasn't completely covered, still....would have actually been awesome to see her so shocked
Oh boy, Guardians is next, oh boy oh boy
She is in for a ride, ESPECIALLY once she gets to Guardians Vol. 2

Agents of the shield is also a show which is a bit related towards Marvel. Watch the Marvel one shots. They are fun.
So good. It’s crazy where it goes from here. Seeing these at midnight in a packed theater was amazing.
