My NY 0040 and I really do really like your new video, I can assure you that. So nice to see that you're happy too with the purchase you made. My honeymoon time with mine isn't over yet. When I check the time with my radio controlled G-Shocks I always start smiling because it's so accurate when it's worn constantly. Thumbs up for your work again, good effort and on top you made me curious about the Orients. We'll see...

Super awesome watch. You'll hardly see anyone wearing a watch with the crown at 8 'o' clock, and it wears excellent on my 6.5" wrist, which is great. My Bezel and chapter ring align perfectly on mine (but it wouldn't have been a big issue if it wasn't). The 8204 movement with hacking is definitely the one to go for. Looks really good on other straps at 20mm lug width, and at the price, it can't be beat. Also the Lume is pretty good in my opinion, being a japanese diver. I've also owned the orients, and prefer the Citizen. I agree with you that the Citizen wears more comfortable.

Hi there! Thanks for the video. Just learned the difference between the two movements. Mine, says, as yours 8204 at the back and 8203 at the front. Unfortunately, mine doesn't hack! For me, it's also the best entry dive watch. Far better than the SKX. Love the different size of the hands (you cannot get wrong or confused here), love the alignement (al my Citizens are perfectly aligned) , love the crown at 8 (far better confort) love the winding movement (Seiko doesn't have), love the lume pimp at 3 (seiko doesn't have), love the bezel (I actually dive with it, and if your hands are wet trying to turn Seiko's bezel can be a problem. Also have a SKX007). The only thing that maybe Seiko wins...coud be the size/presence (a little bigger) and in the word "Seiko" in its dial. Imagine the Citizen model with the word "Seiko"on its dial. Totally agree: Citizen is a tough working tool, proven by real nevy divers. Seiko, is maybe a little more fancy. More for desk divers. MHO.
Thanks for your kind words and for sharing your experiences. Typing this with the NY0040 on my wrist. Be careful: Citizen nowadays also has misaligned bezels (just like Seiko). The one I am wearing now has a 100% perfect alignment. Always double check the alignment when buying the watch 🤓

Great video but you forgot to mention that only the Seiko SKX's and the Citizen NY0040's are the fully certified dive watches.
Among the watches you showed, I own a NY0040 black dial (was lucky to find it had the Miyota 8204 caliber) and the Orient Blue Ray II.
My usecases are normally Orient as a daily dressy diver for work and the Citizen as my vacation tool watch. Needless to say that the NY0040 is the only diver I really used under water as I really feel comfortable it won't have any issues. Although this week I'm using my Citizen on leather straps for work so it all ends up being personal preferences.
I also recently purchased an Invicta 1953 vintage pro diver which for me will be another dressy diver wearing it on straps rather than the metal bracelet.
Overall really awesome affordable watches indeed! Thanks for sharing.

Honestly, on my wrist, none of these divers went deeper than 1 meter in the ocean :) I just love the look of dive watches, their usefulness and their robustness. I bought a newer version with the 8204 (black dial as well) :) How do you wear your Orient? The Invicta looks nice, is it the 31290? Cheers.

Yes, I found the 31290 on Ebay and had to import it from the USA to Spain so unfortunately had to pay extra courier and customs charges but I think it's still a good deal knowing the price of the other different available colorways from Invicta EU online store. I never considered buying an Invicta until I saw this awesome looking gilt dial with black bezel. Nice vintage look with a modern touch to it.
I mainly wear my Orient Blue Ray II on its original metal bracelet as it looks dressier in my opinion. The slanted bezel edge shape helps sliding the watch easier into the shirt's sleeve.
I mainly prefer automatic divers as well as I love their aesthetics, funcionalty and durability. To complete my collection I also own a Seiko SRPE39K1, the Prospex Save The Ocean King Turtle Manta Ray and yeah, all my divers except the NY0040, which I used snorkeling a couple of times, are "desk diving" watches 😋.
For taking the Citizen Promaster into water I usually put it on a rubber strap or the original metal bracelet I purchased it with. By the way, when I bought this timepiece they were only available in Europe from stores in Germany or Italy. Just fell in love with such iconic watch indeed!

I know these import duties suck. The gilt dial gives me Tudor Black Bay vibes. In terms of looks the Orient Ray is quite versatile. I wear mine on a MilTAT bracelet, which in my opinion is a step up compared to the stock metal bracelet. The Citizen NY0040 (and variants) is readily available here in The Netherlands for about €180 now with the updated movement. A great investment (in terms of joy and adventures). G'day mate, yes I also have the black dial version. For its very reasonable price, for me it's everything I like in watches all rolled into one watch built for task, strong and very reliable on my wrist 24 hours a day. Seiko skx is a terrific watch, strong and dardy on the wrist, but I'd have to give it to the citizen as I feel it's slightly better built. Great video 👍 and good on ya. From Paul.

I just got mine with hacking and it is aligned. Lines up better than my $2000 Seiko which has back play. Love your positivity and genuine enthusiasm.

i notice the NY0040 you just bought has no ND Limit table on the strap. The one i ordered too is probably from the same batch as yours - really looking forward to getting it.

Much appreciated! Yes. In the other NY0040 there was a ND strap and the bezel was aligned better. So definitely there could be minor changes 😉
It was the same for me. I baught a NY0086 last week without ND limit table and I was desappointed. May be I will buy later another stap with the table. It's available on Amazon.
@@nicolasq2006 for what it’s worth, i checked with two different vendors why this happened. One said they no longer had the license to use it on the strap, and another said it’s due to liability. My guess is they don’t want people actually relying on that table for calculating dive time. Interesting!

I have the NY0040 with the old movement. I don't really miss hacking, but I find the lume to be weak, compared to my SKX. Is the lume the same on the new watch with the new movement?

@@GadgetsforGentlemen I bought it at a great price and sold it. It looks great and boring at the same time. It is too large at 44mm. I could wing it on my 7 inch wrist, but I did not love it. If it had a red seconds hand or something. Considering the Seiko SNE589. I ordered this Promaster full lume version, but this black dial looks amazing. I am tempted. It looks so much better than the Seiko SKX, with a deep black dial and better hour markers.
Bezel misaligned......? I have seven 0040's and none of them have misaligned bezels !! Thats very unusual for Citizen. Where did you buy your watches? Maybe you have fakes ?

Hi, it’s a bit bigger (44mm) compared to the NY0040 (around 42mm). The crystal is improved (sapphire vs mineral). The caliber 8204 allows for hacking/stopping the seconds hand (which I love - for accurate timesetting). Overall I would go for the original version with the caliber 8204 instead of 8203, due to the smaller dimensions (I have a small wrist thus smaller watches are more comfortable for me). If you prefer bigger watches then NY0140 is a better choice due to the less likely to scratch sapphire crystal. I am curious which one you will get!

I think it should be fine. Otherwise you can look into the larger Orient watches, for example: RA-AA0011B19B.

How do you think the new ny0040 fares up to the orient kamasu? they both cost about the same on amazon US right now?
I love the look of the blue Kamasu. Unfortunately I have not seen it in the flesh. What might make the Kamasu a better choice is the fact the watch has a sapphire crystal which makes the crystal less like to scratch up. Somehow I did scratch my first NY0040. I think the Orient looks quite versatile and even more dressy, although it's a bit larger than the Citizen. The bracelet doesn't look that impressive in my opinion. I would go with the watch that gives you the best feeling. What I have seen on UA-cam (look up Teddy Baldassarre) the Orient looks like a great watch. I can tell personally that the NY0040 is amazing. In the end of the day go for the one you like the best :)
