This is 7 years later....2020 now! I was looking how to microwave press flowers, saw some quite expensive items, then fire bricks, and stumbled on this tutorial: I look no further!!! I have two tiles, plain paper, paper towels, so only need some flowers now!! Thanks for sharing, you saved me big bucks with this knowledge!!!
I almost bought a microwave flower press for $30, then watched your video. I used plain newsprint paper and paper towels with a heavy corningware dish as the weight and they came out perfect in a little over a minute in the microwave. Thanks for saving me $$$!
@@thefrugalcrafter such upbeat video your great best video I came across! X advise would be so great, if I was to do a wedding bouquet with Roses Fern hydrangea loads of different flowers in a microwave that has a max 900 watt setting what should I do their also can I put flowers on normal printing paper with backing paper and then the paper towel with a microwavable plate on top or tile and do flowers individually..??
Ha ha... I went and bought two tiles today to try this out. I was so excited and knew what flowers I would pick to test it out. Well.....when I went to test tile size in microwave, they were too big. I was devastated as it was a half and hour drive to town again. Luckily hubby said he could cut the corners off for me this weekend! So I’m all excited again. You are awesome, and remind me alot of dear, fun people in my life who have either left earth now or moved interstate, and I miss them so much. Go girl 🌼
I placed my fresh flowers between 2sheets of folded in half 8 1/2 x 11" printer paper, and paper towel..then placed the flowers in the microwave first before setting 3 microwave safe dinner plates on top of the flowers for weight..I then set my 1200 watt microwave for 1 min and 20 sec.and it was perfect..if not sufficiently dry when you take out of microwave try a lower power level as she stated for about 30 seconds or less..checking each time
I "liked" this video when I saw what you were doing. I subscribed when you acknowledged that some people might not want to hear you, "gab for 20 seconds," and then unapologetically continued to do just that. I'm a resin artist and I was in a foul mood when I started watching this video, but I was laughing by the end of it because you remind me of my best friend. I'm looking forward to trying this technique as well as watching some more of your videos. Please, never change unless it's to be an even brighter ray of sunshine than you were in this video 6yrs ago. You. Are. Delightful!
You have a lovely attitude! “Make me look thin, honey!” Made me laugh and smile, because it reminds me a lot of my own mom whenever I take pictures or videos of her 💕
"Make me look thin" lol LOVED IT! Made me chuckle 😂 honey you're def perfect just the way you are and, this video saved me tons of money purchasing pressed flowers for nail encapsulation. Thank you!! All these beautiful tiny wildflowers that grows wild in my lawn is bout to find a home inside someones nails!
You got me at “Make me look thin comment”. You are adorable. But what a nice idea! And the arrangement of the presses flowers are lovely. But what do you do with them next? Perhaps put them in a frame and display them? 🤔
Thank goodness you didn't buy it...unlike me! I now own a microwave press, wood press and yes, even the crystals. All I ever needed is tiles and paper towels!!! You are a genius!!! Love your videos! You have helped me so much!! Thank you so much!! Hugs, Jas
My boyfriend got me some wonderful flowers for our first year anniversary the other day, planning to use this tutorial to preserve them and maybe use them in an anniversary gift for him next year!! Thank you so so much for this tutorial!
hahahaha! love your enthusiasm!! I came here for a helpful video, but not only did I get that, I also got a laugh out of this! thanks for brightening my day :)
no, my niece did and I spied it on her display rack, it was only 15! I scolded her for pricing it so low and gave her $20 for it:) I love it! The beads alone must have cost $10. So many people have complimented me on it, I am going to send her customers!
Thanks for showing me how to dry flowers for my project. I was contemplating buy the Microfleur which is really expensive and you did the same thing for free. Love this!!!
Lindsay you have saved me so much money!! I have flowers everywhere but found that drying and pressing flowers to be so much time and energy! I did it this afternoon and it worked great! You are inspiration!
Yes you can, try to find one with a flat bottom, most plated have a ridge on the bottom, anything flat that is ceramic or heavy tempered glass would work. A better idea might be a glass pie plate or casserole dish as they usually are flat on the bottom and are heavy because it need to press the flowers and squish out the moisture.
This is perfect!! I have been looking for a way to press a lot of flowers quickly to use on my homemade wedding invitations. I didn't have a ceramic tile, but I did have a ceramic flat baking dish that worked wonders to use!
they are probably not done yet, try 30 seconds more. Make sure the flowers are inside the paper and surround the paper with a paper towel then pit the tile on top. After cooking gently lift the edge and peek in, if the flowers stick you need to cook them longer. heat 30 seconds then check until they do not stick. Let me know if you are still having trouble.
I just went out to my garden, picked a few of my roses, put them in the micro and Instant Pressed Roses or my journal, wow. Took about 2 mins total for each one. So I made a window tag, and it turned out great. I didn't have a tile, but I did have a piece of pressed wood I use for hammering things when I am working on my journals and adding eyelets and things. It's about 1/2" x 8x11 and it worked great. Thanks, Lindsay! Instant gratification. You daughter did a great job filming, and you look very trim and pretty! You still do, too =)
Lol this lady is absolutely adorable thanks for showing this I'm pressing flowers for my wedding invitations and this method makes it look so clean and beautiful 😊
Thank you!! I have been drying flowers in silica gel (which I LOVE) but would also like some flat flowers.... but I am far too impatient to wait for the book method! Now I just need to find a tile or similar suitable flat surface...
Thank you for this easy and funny tutorial you remind me of my mom. I now have so many picked flowers from my boyfriend and dont know how to preserve them nicely this will help me so much thank you :>
How did I miss this one? This has to have been before my crafting side of the brain kicked in. What a great idea Lindsay! My roses will be in bloom shortly and that will be my probezeit - aka try it time :) Right now, I'm doing bookmarks with my embossing folders. Yippi Skippi! Loving my Lindsay time this mornin':)
works great. i did paper/paper towel first then tried cardstock/paper towel with daffodils 1:30 full power ea one separate with a long leaf to start. perfect. cant thank you enough!! crocus i think i over did but theyre ok too. holy moly happy!!
Lindsay you are so animated, many blessings to you and your family. Thank you for sharing your technique and posting it. It actually worked great for me, I added one more step to make it easier to extract them from the paper. Right after I take it out of the microwave oven, while they are still enveloped int he paper I place them in the freezer for a minute or so; I discovered that this cooling step helps them come off easier.
Thanks!! This was super helpful. I had a dried orchid flower in just 2 minutes! My white daisy ended up a bit brown though...white flowers are always a headache to dry no matter which way you do it I guess. But I'm so happy my orchid and my chrysanthemum flowers came out fantastic! I just got done gluing them into my scrapbook. Now we wait for the mod podge to dry.
First of all, your daughter did a great job videoing you. Cudos to her. Hope this doesn't go to your head, but you are just wonderful and your kids are very lucking have such a Mom.
It's 2023 and I just found your channel to dry flowers in a microwave. So easy i must and will give it a try. Thank you for sharing this easy inexpensive method.
Thank you so much! I didn't have a tile, so I used two Corning plates. My daughter and I are going to put the flowers individually between clear contact paper, cut around, and then mount in a circle with the flowers placed according to color wheel. I can't wait!
Just found this video,so excited to try, i m trying to hang on to summer by collecting flowers on my walks...who knew you can press them in the microwave. .Thank you from the U.K. xx
Wonderfully Easy, Inspirational and Completely Cute Video!! I've enjoyed drying flowers since I was a little girl and this will be a fun and quick way to dry flowers with my own little girls!! Thank you for your inspiration and bubbly personality!!! 😄 Happy Easter Weekend!! 🐣🌸🐣🌺🐣🌼🐣🌷🐣🌹
Hi Lindsay, you didn't actually mention anything about the tile you were using you just jumped right into it. What kind of tile was it? I would think that's important so you don't put something into the microwave that isn't safe. I noticed that your tile was painted, for example. And was it a glass tile or clay..? etc. tfs.
Thanks for this video, I wanted to be able to preserve some of the flowers from my mum's funeral bouquet but didn't have a flower press or time to get one. So glad I've now been able to preserve them :-)

one thing I do is pick fresh flowers, place them face down on my PC scanner, and scan them in, and you have excelent pictures of your very own flowers

Ooh what a good idea I didn’t have any tiles.
I think it's the weight that is important so anything as long as it's heavy and microwavable but tiles? Perfect!!!
