I'm really used to a lot of people mocking my faith. Thank you so much for the respect that you showed here. We're not very easily offended, because we're used to being made fun of or called crazy, and I totally get that a lot of things that we do can seem weird to people, but somebody trying to show respect for me is genuinely new to me. Honestly, it might seem very simple, but I'm touched. Thanks so much for the consideration! If you guys are with the Big 12 is like, then It just makes me more proud for BYU to be a part of it!
I feel the love and respect from the big 12 as a BYU fan. I love being in a conference with people that respect and appreciate faith, family, and sports.
As a BYU fan I loved coach Pope. I'm really happy about his transfer to Kentucky. Lucky Kentucky. But I'm really jazzed over Kevin Young coming in without even thinking about it. That coaching job will become the biggest deal in college basketball.
Thank you, Drake for the respect you have for BYU and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It's nice to hear some positivity from some outside of the church.
Yes the networking in the LDS church is alive and well. I've always loved that there are qualified people coaching at BYU who are part of the system. Kevin Young is the most exciting choice I've ever seen them make.
Thank you Drake and Isaac for showing kindness to BYU and especially giving respect to our faith and universities Mission and unique (challenging) ways of doing things. For years it felt like BYU was getting "Woked" out of any P5 possibilities but then came the loving and welcoming arms of the BIG 12. We are forever grateful and it's because of important voices like yours that set the tone for accepting us, even with all of our quirks. I'm now a nightly viewer of your program! GO LOCKED ON BIG 12!
I'm not sure about the Big 12 welcoming BYU with open arms. For the longest time BYU was rejected because of their religion. What BYU did bring was the increase of television ratings. BYU probably has the largest media market in the Big 12. The Big 12 brought them in for their own survival. I'm not complaining, but that is the main reason as to why they're in that conference.
Coach Young was a candidate when BYU hired Coach Pope. This shows that Coach Young has been interested in coaching BYU basketball for a long time. All BYU needs to do now is to get close to his opportunity cost. Given his age, he could still be an NBA Head Coach in the future.
As a BYU fan I am tempering my expectations because I remember Jim Boylen was an NBA head coach, and I saw what he did at Utah. Admittedly, I know very little about Kevin Young.
Their willingness to go after the best possible and offer enough to get him is enough to be excited about. Now have the same mentality with recruiting.
As a BYU alum, facts. Our head coaches are usually paid much less than other head coaches. I mean, still paid way more than I am, but less than the average.
BYU head coaches dont have to be LDS members. It is a practice but not policy. But especially with the bigger sports it would be very surprising for a new hire not be LDS
@@wadewixom7029 didn’t brother Holmo make a statement about this in 2021? Said it’s not mandatory anymore? I think the alternative is getting an ecclesiastical sponsor like they’ve done in years past.
All seem like surprisingly good hires. Time will tell. I thought maybe you were a little out there last week when you said that Kentucky was the loser, and BYU could be the winner in this deal. But I'll be damned! BYU just may have upgraded. DeVries is a great hire, too. Don't doubt The Drake!
As a Poke fan, I also am a B12 fan and hope the best for all teams. Success will lead to respect and $ and help narrow the gap with other conferences. We need to deliver in the NCAA tourney, football playoffs and against other conference brand teams when we have the opportunity.
WOW.....the big 12 has gotten even tougher in basketball!! With baylor keeping there coach, the wvu and byu hires. Just amazing!!! Amd i am a wvu fan, and also luv the L.D.S. byu world. Last year BYU played at morgantown in football, and they came onto our field carrying also the west virginia flag. 1st class act, much respect and best wishes for BYU!!!
Boy did this age well so far. Kevin Young landed the 3rd ranked recruiting class in the nation! Two guys are lottery and first round NBA draft guys. The question now is can he coach them to give up individual glory for team play. We shall see.
BYU with the current NIL doesn’t have to worry about morales. There aren’t any rules that they have to be morally obligated to as far as money goes. This is their time to capitalize on the current situation. Sure there are still morals at play but they can now spend money on who they want within their own moral code and the tiny bit of governance in how that money is spent. They are going to blow up. Watch!
Ok, SO WELL DID BYU DO OK 1ST YEAR? NOW ANY PROJECTIONS FOR A YEAR OR TWO. IT,S NOT AS GOOD AS IT COULD BE JUST FOR BADKWTBALL. WHAT I MEAN TO SAY IS, BYU LOOKS 10 TO 20 YEARS DOWN THE ROAD FOR THE LIVES IN THETE PLAYERS. ITS PLAYER LIFE INVESTMENT ALSO GOING ON. THIS MAY SEEM FOREIGHN FOR SOME BUT IT IS DEAR TO THE HEART OF CHURCH MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS. 😂
There's a couple of things I don't like about the Kevin Young hire. First can a guy who's used to coaching elite athletes transition to successfully coaching meh ones? Ryan Smith and Danny Ainge seem to have this 'any sport but football' philosophy for Utah sports. Do we really want our university to become a basketball school? I really couldn't care less about hockey and baseball but those are the pro teams Ryan Smith wants. And now the billionaire wants us to pay to build his new arena. I think our community is a football community being bullied by an anti football billionaire.

REALLY APPRECIATE the respect for faith. Love being in the B12 with all of you!
I love how much y’all have learned about our faith and culture. We love the Big 12!!
I feel the love and respect from the big 12 as a BYU fan. I love being in a conference with people that respect and appreciate faith, family, and sports.
Thank you for your respectful, thoughtful commentary especially when discussing our faith

Thanks for wearing the BYU sweat shirt, Drake!

Once again, Drake hits a home run. Good guest, interesting subject matter, in-depth coverage. Best Big 12 podcast out there.

Forever Young!!! 😁
Love the get! Might have just supercharged our recruitment ability. Excited to see what happens!
Sweet intro, go cougs

HE’S THE HIGHEST PAIDED COACH IN THE HISTORY OF BYU, BYU WANTING TO PLAY BIG BOY BALL, THAT IS NOT A NORM AT BYU, THAT IS WILD ‼️

Correct
Technically correct. Practically incorrect. Not all rules are written.

@ghostface1737 Yeah I think it was a statement when Diljeet Taylor was hired.
Never has been the policy. Always had been the practice.

Words can't express how refreshing it is to see people not bashing our faith, THANK YOU❤❤❤
Remember, BYU’s best player this past year (Robinson) wasn’t Mormon. So, Young won’t only recruit LDS players.
You also had Fous and Khalifa who aren't LDS
@@gagebentley7356also Waterman and others
Great report Drake! Love your show.
Drake you rock also Isaac you rock too go BYU
Drake like the Brigham Young sweat shirt!

Thank you for being so respectful towards The Church of Jesus Christ! It means a lot! Love the podcast!
Ok, hear me out BYU Fans. If Sitake leaves we should get Steve Young to come back and coach the football team. Young and Young
Ty detmer also worked out well for byu
@@John-ne4fq Yes, But how funny would it be to have the mens basketball head coach and Football coach have the same last name
Same last name as the school.
Lutz will be around as long as he gets us to the tournament. Believe it or not Oklahoma State, until Boynton, was use to going to the tournament
Mark Pope Who? 🤣
BYU 🤙
Nah! 3 years and out, if the money’s right.

College basketball is shell of what it used to be. You are still a kid, so you don't know what it was like before.

No, "whacked" is the exact right word for BYU.
Nobody wants to know about your kook culture or faith, you don't have to see much to tell your a bunch of weirdos
What grade are in scooter. Get used to it. The Lds church has the power to exceed your puny mind many times over little one.
This year 3 players were Muslim. So they don't have to be lds to play there.
