  • In this video I play all the instruments and recreate the sounds in the song "Day Tripper" by The Beatles.I show how to get the guitar tone and explain how my cover was recorded. I go over the plug ins used as well as the instruments, and various aspects of the recording and mixing process . Apparently I did a pretty good job .. watch the video to see why...

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  14 днів тому

      @@Moreno280161 No. I adjusted the poles to get the optimal sound that I wanted. I don't know how closely matched the tennessean Rose pickups match the vintage Sometimes the modern versions of vintage guitars have different outputs and winds. (Like Rickenbacker sometimes )So again , I never had that problem.But it sounds like all the wound are the same volume and the unwound are louder? Then perhaps the pickup is just catching the flat wounds differently than rounds. If it were mine I wouldn't feel anything was necessarily wrong and just adjust the poles to even the string volumes out and get the optimal sound.

    Hi great, I have another question to ask you, in the video you didn't show George's solo, I basically wanted to know if you can do the bending with the G wound with the Flatwoound strings or have you changed it, thanks.

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  Рік тому

      I don't necessarily think the Tenny was used for the solo. Take 1 shows that only the volume swells are played during the solo part, and the solo was therefore overdubbed.If the bend was played upon at the 7th fret B register bending the g is possible but not likely . (I tried it) You get a closer sound paying it at the 3rd fret position on the B and E string. You then have to go up to the 10-12th fret for the higher part. I don't think it was done that way,. It was probably done with a strat overdubbed at the 7th fret register, and my guess flats weren't on the strat. Of course I'm just guessing , no one knows for sure.

    • @mrkite89
      @mrkite89 9 місяців тому

      @@perrystanleyNumber9 Yeah, with flats and wound 3rd I play it as you describe it, the only way to avoid bending the G string. But my guess is that George recorded all parts with the Strat with flatwounds, because that guitar was still new at the time: it probably still had the factory 12-52 flats on it. If George changed the strings there was still John's Strat, and John was pretty lazy at those things: I can see him not changing strings on a new guitar for months...At times the Beatles played each other's instruments, so here we have two Strats that could possibly have flat strings at the time of Day Tripper's recording. Just my thoughts. Because I think that the Beatles were playing rounds by late '65, but if the factory flats were still on the new Strats, this explains the otherwise "odd" choice for the time? Bass strings are another story obviously...

      @@mrkite89 what about the es345?

    • @mrkite89
      @mrkite89 9 місяців тому

      @@perrystanleyNumber9 Yeah, it's a possibility. Anyway it seems that flatwounds are really crucial for this tone, as you pointed out...Can I ask you about your recording approach? I noticed in your videos that you tend to be pretty heavy handed with the EQ post recording: do you do this because you want to add as much "flavor" as possible with the Abbey Road plugins (the Beatles themselves were known for heavily EQing a lot of tracks) or just to "correct" an otherwise "wrong" EQ? I tend to record the raw sound as close as possible to what I want and use very little post processing. For example, in this video I noticed that you brightened the bass track quite a lot: why not put the mic a little further away to reduce proximity effect and a little closer to the center of the speaker to get more highs? Or do you prefer the result of using heavy REDD console EQ after the recording? Sorry if my english isn't perfect, I hope my question is clear enough...cheers and keep up the good work!

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  9 місяців тому +1

      I first use what I believe was used by The Beatles. I don't try to correct, I try to get closer to the sound . The Beatles went through the Redd 51 on every recording ( except when they used the redd 37 or TG boards)and they had compression with the rs124 on most of the bounces. They used eq heavily , sometimes running a guitar through several channels to compensate for the limited amount of EQ on each channel. Nowhere Man is a good example of this . If the bass was brightened up it's because it was better for the mix and closer to the sound on the record in my opinion.I rarely think of the sound of a recorded track on it's own . It is how it works in the mix that matters.Something can sound really great alone but not work in the mix as is. There really isn't much of a proximity effect on the D20 mic. That's why it was used on kick drum and bass. When it's used on voice it really doesn't have much proximity effect.(The U47 of course does have that effect when used close)Though there were times especially on pepper that the bass was mixed from a distance, it was also close miced many times with the bassman when that was the amp used. Sometimes I do position the mic to the center of the speaker, but sometimes when recording guitar I also use the placement of the U47 right between the 2 speakers like they also did at Abbey Road. I'm also running through the Redd 47 preamp and often using the same or similar mics , so the sound already is there. Mixing is another story though, because each sound has to be put in it's sonic pocket . I try to get close to what the record is. I also get to know how the the eq and compression will affect the sounds recorded and the helps moving forward to the results I want.If you get the results you want with your method of recording ... great! My methodology works for me. I have been mixing music for several decades now, and I can get the mixes done pretty quickly because I stick to what works for me and what I was taught by reading and other engineers. I started recording in studios when I was 15. I'm 59 now! There is always something new to learn, but there gets to be a point when you have a consistency because you find your groove and methods that work for you. You write extremely well in English , and you speak one more language than I do! Hope that answered your question. Thanks for watching!
