    Get Back sounds great. I know this is a vid about the guitar, but the bass is what does it on that one.

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  3 роки тому +2

      It’s funny . To me the bass is so simple, but what I found really got the sound was the combo of the redd 51 channel and then the most important part , the rs124 compression. Adding THAT gave it the same presence!

    Man you nailed those sounds, I’m sure that 65 sounds massive in the room and must be a dream to play. I have one of the John Lennon revolution models which is fantastic; probably the closest you can get to his sanded-down version, unless someone has the guts to strip back the finish on an original!

    I really enjoyed your video great playing and tones and thoughts on the casino were insightful and valuable ...I own a 2006 Korean bigsby fitted one that plays very nice ...its build quality is great on par with my USA guitars ...i only paid £350 (which was a bit of a steal considering it came with a hard case) for it 2nd hand 3 years ago but have noticed the prices creeping up on this particular model...which doesn't surprise me as if mine is anything to go by they're really good .....mine whilst having a poly finish is still quite dull and tasteful looking almost as if someones taken fine wire wool to it to dull out any garishness ...i took the scratch plate off mine for that Paul Weller "Changing man " vibe ...lol...and the rose wood on the neck is lovely and dark...it says custom shop on the back headstock but im taking that with a pinch of salt..lol ...its a production line CNC made factory guitar and the "custom shop" probably refers to it having a bigsby...it stays in tune very well considering
    .that said i think the P90s are its weak point as i think they're a little too "hot" and lacking something i cannot quite put my finger on when compared to the P90 on my Gibson Les Paul junior ...its not that they're crap and great tones can be dialled in but it i wasnt so lazy and skint i definitely would swap them for something more classy ...i think the guitar would be worth it ....
    I really enjoyed you showing your vintage casino guitar close up....it looks fantastic ..and think Epiphone casinos are one of the coolest looking guitars ever ....yours is a right Paul Weller job ...and one of the few guitars you can buy that are imports but still make you feel like you are not compromising...

    Wonderful video Perry. I follow some of the top "Beatles" cover channels and I have to say you have exceeded all others in getting the right sound/balance. Well done! Thanks for the run down on the Casino's. There is something special about having the right vintage instruments. Yes, you can recreate that sound with re-issues, but when your goal is to recreate/live that moment in time, a vintage instrument truly brings you back in time. One problem, the guitar input (where you plug the guitar into your Amp) came loose and fell inside the Guitar.

    I love my lefty 2008 Casino. I heard that Donovan while in India told John & George if they'd sand down their Casino's they would get a better tone and that's why some think the sunburst ones are different to the latter natural ones they played with. Anyways, they didn't find any difference afterwards with the sound.. Of course Paul's, the first to get a casino lefty his sunburst.

    Hey Perry, I’ve got a question in relation to paperback writer. I see that you are using the bass man here for the main riff. I was under the impression that the tone of the main riff was achieved by using a ul730, can you shed any light on this for me ?

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  3 місяці тому +1

      Actually it would have been the UL7120 as they didn't have the UL730 on Revolver. At the time of this video I believed Paul used the Bassman so I played it. Now I have a UL730, and I did a video about it and it opens with Paperback Writer on the UL730. (The 30 watt version of the 7120) anyway if you watch that video I discuss what made me believe it was the 7120 and not the Bassman. If you haven't seen it, the video I did is called "Playing the Vox UL70". I discuss paperback writer right away after playing it!

    Didn't Paul use the Vox UL730 on Paperback Writer?

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  2 роки тому

      It is possible but I doubt it. My opinion is that John used the gretsch 6120 through the UL730 as pictured that day for the minor strum parts with tremolo and Paul used the bass man with his casino. There are many pictures in the studio of both Paul’s casino and bass by the bassman. He used other amps like the selmer, but the bassman was used a lot when you look at studio pictures . No one knows for sure including me, but the sound right into the amp pulled out the character right away heard on the record.By the way I just bought a 6120 the same year as Lennon’s . Though I can’t get a real UL730, I’m probably going to make a vid using the Dr Robert pedal through the 63 using the gretsch 6120 doing john’s part in Paperback writer.

    • @elirosen1391
      @elirosen1391 2 роки тому

      @@perrystanleyNumber9 so if Paul didn't use the UL730, then what was the source of that very solid-state sounding fuzz?

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  2 роки тому

      @@elirosen1391 I think what I did with the riff on the Bassman sounds exactly like the record. If you don’t agree that’s fine. The sound of the paperback riff doesn’t sound solid state to me , especially when you play it on the bassman which
      I demonstrate. Here are facts :Paul played the riff and basic strum . Take one has Martin saying “It’s all you Paul”. McCartney himself said he did the riff. Lennon is pictured that day of recording with the Ul730 and the 6120 gretsch. The only other part is the tremolo strum that accompanies mac’s strumming. I therefore believe the only Ul730 on the song is John on the 6120 which is clearly not the riff. But I can only go but what I can demonstrate and what I hear. No one but the Beatles were there so only they would know for sure.one thing also pictured with John that day with the amp is the curvebender distortion pedal . Don’t know if he actually recorded using it but he had it there at least to experiment.

    • @elirosen1391
      @elirosen1391 2 роки тому

      @@perrystanleyNumber9 While I am more swayed towards the UL730 being Paul's choice of amp on "Paperback Writer", I will say your replications of other songs on the Casino are dead on. How come you didn't include "And Your Bird Can Sing" in the equation? That's probably the most Casino filled-track the Beatles ever did.
