When I was a kid we would always dump water over the snow structure. The water freezes and hardens the snow for stability. Great Video and awesome fish!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman it helps a lot, we sprayed it with water, rather than dumping it, but as long as you don’t just douse it in one spot-so it doesn’t drill a hole-you should be fine
yeah spread water over the top lightly every so often after it's been centered. I also like to take a bucket of water inside with me and use handfuls to smooth out the interior roof. eventually it literally. becomes a shell.
Blew my nose with it too! lol. The my day sock, I kept a pair of dry night socks hahaha Socks, after use, can be resused. Works good if you forget toilet paper too!!
My first sleeping bag that was passed down , has many layers of different materials of quilts an wool blankets. Weight is about forty pounds. The age of it is about 1900-1914. I took it night fishing once. It was half my load an hiked six mile with goat sled. Then two of us pushed an ice shack by hand a quarter mile down the lake. It was way into dark by the time we got to the lake. Left the truck while still light. I enjoyed the video and reminded me of that hike we made at below zero Fahrenheit. We drove the Toyota on top of a couple feet of snow when we got back to the truck and drove 20 miles back to town. 26 miles up into the mountains of Katadin.
a couple things i thought of, if you have a longer sled, you could put your sleeping back in it and not have to worry about getting wet OR you could of used the sled as a door when yall went to sleep to keep in the warmth and keep the wind out. Which would also cause the inner snow to center and harden, creating more insulation. Overall awesome video boys!
This might be a weird compliment to give, but thanks for not making the sponsored portion awkward, that’s exactly how it should be done! Sponsors should be proud!

That was a crazy video of the rescue, Adam, dude you are a strong human staying with your friend, keeping him motivated to hang on and reassuring him help was on the way and that he was going to be fine if he kept on fighting, that was as much as any human could have done and like more than the majority would have given the situation, most folks would be trying to tens to themselves or make their way to solid land. And another great adventure from The Wooded Beardsman!
As a proper Canadian 🇨🇦 like yourself I appreciate watching your videos. Teach alot of wilderness skills which not alot of people know about. Cheers 🍻 Adam stew was a good sport! Would love to tag along with you some day! Keep er between the lines 👍
i like how adam says "its the way she goes man" ah, reminds me of ray from trailer park boys, when he lost all the liquor money... "sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesnt... its the way she goes"
As a kid in central Ontario, I used to spritz a bit of water over the top of the quinzhee to create a uniform crust of ice. Alternatively, over time your breath will actually crystalize the roof, making it stronger. Those things are so darn awesome
You should make your own qulliq. It's what the Inuit use for a little heat, melting snow, even cooking inside an igloo. Can help take the edge off. Wouldn't mess up the integrity of the shelter either. Just have to make sure you have a little ventilation. Another thing is, you could make a hobo stove out of one of those popcorn tins. They're made of steel, but they're thin so they don't weigh anything. Plus you can keep all your stuff dry inside of it til you use it.
I've made these myself living up in Ohio. I suggest when you dig out from the pile, pull it out and re-pack it on the out side of it. You can build a fire too inside as long as you have 2-3 ventilation holes. They do get warm very warm. I love these. If you do a fire, keep in mind every hour on the hour you need to pack more on the outside.
Weirded boodsman, you sure can pack away some food. Im definitely envious of your life, Being able to do what you do and make an income from it is the best.
A tip if you're gonna build another snow hut: Get a couple of sticks of about the same length and stick them into the snow pile in a couple of places before you start digging. That way, you can just dig until you see the sticks and keep an evenly thick shell. If the shell is uneven, the chances of it collapsing are WAY higher. I also recommend elevating it at least a little bit. That way, more heat will stay inside and also any snow or ice that melts in the snow hut won't pool on the floor. Not any water from the outside of it either.
Love building Quinzees, Been awhile also Inuit people are still around practicing these skills it’s scares but alive. You are right though they do make igloos but the quinzee is a very necessary shelter to know. So props for doing The work.

As a finnish person who as a child playd in snow and water in -20c - -30c weather to build small snow casttles. I kinda feel nostalgic by this and laughed a lil for "ah its so cold" styff 🤭 even so, ye it can be hard in winter regardless. Good video 😊
Amazing frosty beard. Fantastic story telling. As usual. That drone rescue footage was raw. In a different video he posted it. Shovels put the "Win" in winter.
I live in Arizona. Although I've lived in places where it snows in Arizona it generally doesn't get that cold for any significant amount of time, so this kind of camping and fishing is completely foreign to me.
I live in Washington state. It gets cold sometimes. It was in the 20s F for most of this week with snow. This type of camping and fishing is still foreign to me
A tip I learned as a kid when winter camping...always wear boots with removable liners, pull them out and sleep on top of them. You can do the same with your pants.
Also tying ropes onto the mid section of the sleds and then blocking the doorway with it and snow anchoring the ropes inside the quinsie keeps the sleds/sled, from coming lose and blowing away. Keeps it warmer inside
That's great to watch you guys having so much fun. I wish you make more survival challenges with other people. Maybe even with subscribers? That would be interresting.
