A quinzhee is also called a snow hut ice shelter, snow trench, or hollowed out survival snow mound, to sleep overnight and catch and cook giant trout and burbot.
We will boil water to purify it for survival from the lake and cook snow in a hobo type wood burning stove right out on the lake.
The quinzee is a simple structure that replaces a conventional winter survival shelter build by Inuit called the igloo. A quinzee is just a pile of snow that is left to site for a length of time permitting it to sinter or compress and bind together. After a few hours, the snow mound or trench can be hollowed out forming a cavity which can be used to protect from the elements including wind, some light rain, and most certainly, strong winds. While a quinzee does not generally get warmer than the outside temperatures, it does provide enough of a wind block and protection from the snow to be a viable life safer in wintery conditions.
Much like an igloo, a quinzee can be heated a few degrees, but it does not hold a big volume of air, so condensation is a big problem. Ample ventilation must be used so that condensation does not form wetting dry sleeping bags or clothing. When building the structure, a survivalist must also be careful not to get their clothing wet.
We solve some major survival challenges in this adventure including finding and purifying water, catching and cooking food, building shelter, and staying warm despite record -20C temperatures.

I've made these myself living up in Ohio. I suggest when you dig out from the pile, pull it out and re-pack it on the out side of it. You can build a fire too inside as long as you have 2-3 ventilation holes. They do get warm very warm. I love these. If you do a fire, keep in mind every hour on the hour you need to pack more on the outside.

My first sleeping bag that was passed down , has many layers of different materials of quilts an wool blankets. Weight is about forty pounds. The age of it is about 1900-1914. I took it night fishing once. It was half my load an hiked six mile with goat sled. Then two of us pushed an ice shack by hand a quarter mile down the lake. It was way into dark by the time we got to the lake. Left the truck while still light.
I enjoyed the video and reminded me of that hike we made at below zero Fahrenheit.
We drove the Toyota on top of a couple feet of snow when we got back to the truck and drove 20 miles back to town. 26 miles up into the mountains of Katadin.

A tip if you're gonna build another snow hut: Get a couple of sticks of about the same length and stick them into the snow pile in a couple of places before you start digging. That way, you can just dig until you see the sticks and keep an evenly thick shell. If the shell is uneven, the chances of it collapsing are WAY higher. I also recommend elevating it at least a little bit. That way, more heat will stay inside and also any snow or ice that melts in the snow hut won't pool on the floor. Not any water from the outside of it either.

Wooded beardsman mentions how adam is responsible for food and then how he was invited by adam. Mentions that adam should be taking over building the quincy and its mentioned that they wouldnt be cuddling and beardsman mentions about how it looks like they wouldnt be eating that day either and i saw beardsman mostly building the quincy. I think beardsman was upset that adam wasnt being feuitful providing food and then wasnt helping with the quincy. Memtioning that building the quincy "took a long time to build"

I live in Arizona. Although I've lived in places where it snows in Arizona it generally doesn't get that cold for any significant amount of time, so this kind of camping and fishing is completely foreign to me.

Use the left over bone and cook it over fire then add onto boiling water to make a good fish stalk. You can also add the head

  • @blueclothes1

Cooking tip from a pro: fire roast the fish head before you put it in the boiling water to reduce the fishy taste even more

You should make your own qulliq. It's what the Inuit use for a little heat, melting snow, even cooking inside an igloo. Can help take the edge off. Wouldn't mess up the integrity of the shelter either. Just have to make sure you have a little ventilation. Another thing is, you could make a hobo stove out of one of those popcorn tins. They're made of steel, but they're thin so they don't weigh anything. Plus you can keep all your stuff dry inside of it til you use it.
