    I also really liked that Finn stood up to Kylo Ren, knowing that he would probably die, that's true heroism. And while Kylo is a million times more badass with the mask on, he had to leave it off for the final fight so he could get his face fucked up for episode 8.

      I dunno. I see a lot more narrative weight in Ben dying in A New Hope than I do in Han dying in Force Awakens. Failing that, Ben dying helps further his own character and actually allows him to become _more_ involved with the story.

    Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is accused of being too nerdy under the mask.
    I consider that a good example of what Anakin should've been like; damaged, immature, rather average looking.
    I can see him as the villain BECAUSE he's a dork.
    Besides, he's not a full-on Sith yet.
    That's for two years from now.

    I don't think Rey friend zoned Finn, I mean, they just met, they were friends, which is fine. So a forehead kiss. An actual kiss would have been weird. I also would prefer if no one got together in the end, mainly with the 'main three of Poe, Finn and Rey.' I think Poe would have some girlfriend actually on base that we don't know about lol

    Andre I think people are forgetting that Kylo Ren only really had used his lightsaber to throw tantrums and decapitate dudes which is why he lost to Rae, who was also powerful with the force. ALSO- man had been shot in the fucking stomach by Chewbacca and was bleeding out during the fight!!

    • @Arctic022
      @Arctic022 8 років тому +7

      +Hazomina 72 Let's also not forget that Rey had been fighting with a polearm most, if not all, of her life (presumably) and was competent with it (e.g. scene where she beats up thieves).
      If you watch Rey's fighting style, she jabs often similar to how she would with a staff. I don't think Rey besting an injured Ren in a duel is that big of a stretch (but the whole using the force, then godmode thing was a little sloppy and I can see why people feel this way).

      +Anthony Aguinaldo Yep. He was pretty much nearly dead. Probably the Force was keeping him alive, that's why he wasn't able to pull the Lightsaber out of the snow: he was focused on remaining alive. In the prequels we've seen many Jedi being killed by a couple of ordinary blaster shots.

    • @MarioLozanoMendivil
      @MarioLozanoMendivil 8 років тому +2

      +Hazomina 72 Exactly! he wasn't fully trained and he was the only force user in the entire galaxy, of course an untrained jedi, bleeding out and already injured by Finn would have a hard time against Rey who just happened to be a freaking genius using the force

    • @brabea23

      +Ladondorf C.A. - Stop Motion Films Actually, the Ren part is because he's one of the Knights of Ren. They didn't explain crap about them in the movie, but that's what Snoke (which is the STUPIDEST name for a BBEG I've ever heard) calls him at one point. I'm guessing it's analogous to Sith being called Darth. Not that that explains the 'Kylo' part.

  • @prince_nocturne
    @prince_nocturne 8 років тому +5

    No one, absolutely NO ONE, has talked about the absolutely BEAUTIFUL lighting happening during the scene with Kylo and Han. Kylo is conflicted between light and dark, and in that moment, he's lit half in red, half in blue. At the moment he chooses what to do, he's FULL red lighting. It was so well done.
    So. Kylo Ren. Great guy, good villain, I like how he's dripping with power while still being obviously not fully trained and barely in control of himself (sometimes losing that control fully). But I gotta be honest with you here. Kylo Ren is a Deviant Art OC. HE IS! "He's really powerful, and he's the son of Han and Leia, and he's the grandson of Darth Vader, and he wants to be just like Vader, and he totally has Vader's old mask on a shelf, and he has a really cool mask of his own just like Vader, but he's still really pretty under it, with long black hair and mysterious eyes, and has a totally badass saber that no one else has, and he's the friend of the new emperor, and he leads the new empire's army, and he totally kills Han! And when he gets shot, he just walks it off and still fights super powerful! OC do not steal!" C'mon.
    I do like how his lightsaber kind of fizzles, unlike other lightsabers. Like, it has both the feeling of being stronger, but also unstable. Like it might overload at any moment, because he's trying TOO hard to be powerful. It's fitting for the character, who is trying SO HARD to be a dark jedi, to be evil, but is just not quite there. He doesn't have the Sith control of the emotions like he should. And worse, he knows it. He knows that's his biggest weakness.

    I actually really love Kylo Ren. I DO fully agree that he should have put the helmet back on after killing Han, but other than that, I LOVE him as a character. I LIKE that they're not waiting until the last movie to reveal him. I LIKE that he's just a guy. I LOVE his tantrums, because the way he snaps feels more like a psychopath than a child to me. He's a confused, angry, and trapped man. He is literally fighting himself, and as he said, he's "being torn apart" by both the light and dark sides within him. He is BOUND to have these moments of rage. I deal with anxiety, which has similar effects at times, where I get frustrated to the point where I need to punch or break something. It honestly felt like THAT was his reason for destroying shit when people gave him "bad news". True, it's not as subtle and threatening as the Force choke, which Vader used any time someone failed him, but this guy is NOT Vader. He is a new character, and one I thoroughly enjoyed watching. Darth Vader is definitely better, but Kylo Ren is a VERY interesting character to me, and I look forward to where they go with him.
    P.S. Finn/Poe is my new OTP

    If there’s something I’ve truly come to dislike about Star Wars it’s the fans. Not all fans, rather a certain kind of fan. The ones who vehemently bombard each new Star Wars release with comments and reviews of how it has ruined Star Wars. It has been ten years since the prequels finished and still this persists. You’d have thought the mature thing would have been to walk away and keep to what they love about the universe. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case.
    STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS has an impressive 8.5/10 on IMDb, with only 6.2% of users giving it below-average scores. Adversely, the reviews for the movie are alight with negativity. Of the 100 “most useful” reviews, 97 of them give the movie below-average scores, and of those 88 give it scores worse than The Star Wars Holiday Special! Reviewers who have enjoyed the movie are being quashed. This small vocal portion has embedded itself within the reviews. I’m sure they’ve left their mark. But, it presents a disproportionate view of the movie.
    If you enjoyed this movie and you have an IMDb account, or are willing to make one, as a favour tio yourselves and to the incredible amount of love and effort many people put into the film it’d be great if you could take 5-10 minutes to upvote positive reviews you agree with. For the scores it’s receiving, THE FORCE AWAKENS deserves more reviews that are actually helpful to why people enjoyed the film.
    For those who are on-board, my personal thanks! :)

    I disagree with you at the point where you say Kylo should've put his mask back on for the final fight. After he killed Han, the look on his face wasn't triumph. It was more, "What have I done?"Him fighting with his mask off symbolized his humanity that still lurks within him despite how much he tries to get rid of it.

    All I can think is the vicious, vicious irony that Anakin wouldn't want ANY OF WHAT BEN IS DOING TO HAPPEN. This is not his legacy. He was constantly conflicted but in the end he returned to the Light Side. The thing that pushed Anakin truly over the edge was Padme's death, and so he's probably looking on, as a Force ghost, in absolute horror because he literally cannot conceive how his grandson could make his same mistakes, but even worse. Did Luke teach him nothing?
    I really, really hope this is explored further in Episode VIII, preferably through some exposition during Rey's training.

    there was only 1, 1 new chracter I take issue with, and that was Kylo Ren. Like you said, the minute he took off his helmet all of his presence felt like it was gone. Hell on the first tantrum it was gone, cause he felt like an angry man-child, not a powerful "sith warrior"

People go to the dark side because it looks stronger. He had to kill Han because he couldn't get stronger because of his connection. Plus it would make no sense for him to be that strong. I mean Luke is the late Jedi.

    I dont see why people say Rey is too powerful. She can hold herself in a fight. Why? "Cuz she's a Mary Sue." No, she had to learn since childhood to take care of herself on a desert planet. Why is she so gifted with the force? "She's a Mary Sue!" It's clear she gradually learned that she could do what she could do, she surprises herself with what she could do. And it'll be explained in the upcoming movies and will be expanded upon. She's the toughest and most badass character in the movie and its obvious why if you pay attention and think about it.

    HANDS DOWN.....BEST MOVIE REVIEW EVER. Thumbs up to that Andre. 200 % energy put into that review loved it. As soon as you start asking yourself "how is that realistic?" "this can't be right", "this is stupid", "That's dumb" (You ruin that movie experience). Just sit down watch the movie. Shut up, and enjoy it, and top ruining it for the people that like this movie. IF you think you can make a better movie. Go to film school, and go out there and do it. I'd love to see it happen. And you never know it might be great, and you might end up being a great film maker. Lots of hours goes into making movies like this, and I can really appreciate it. Thanks Andre for being honest and for telling it like it is.
    This movie was really good. Stay true to yourself buddy. Be honest. That's why I like you, and Don't Change. Just be yourself. You are awesome :D

    Rey is NOT Luke’s daughter because..
    When Maz talks about Luke’s lightsaber, she says something along the lines of “ the people who you’re hoping for (your family) will never come back. But there is hope with someone else…” leading Rey to say Luke. Notice in the way she talks, she separated her family from Luke?
    I think Luke is more of a father figure because i think he trained her before. The way Luke looked at her at the first Jedi temple was like “I’ve waited all these years to see you.” I think Rey trained with Luke since birth since she’s force sensitive, making Luke’s facial expression like "yup you’re like my daughter because I practically raised you, and yay you’re back!“ Obviously Luke sent her to Jakku. When Kylo went batshit. , Luke was like o geez get Rey the hell out of here, she and Kylo were my precious students, but now she’s my only hope! Send her to Jakku in hiding! WHICH makes sense because if you see the movie again, when the captain informs Kylo that BB8 escaped on Jakku with a girl, Kylo is like WHICH GIRL. So, he obviously knows of a girl from Jakku is important, and probably remembers a young Rey training with Luke too alongside him.
    PLUS, how does she know all her mechanics/pilot stuff? She’s a scavenger on Jakku, not a trained pilot! I think her force and pilot/mechanics skills are ingrained within her already from Luke’s training. She did not forget her force powers entirely when she was sent to Jakku, just the memory of Luke and the training. Luke probably wiped out her memory because he wanted her to grow up as a "nobody” like he did. Anakin grew up with a mentality of “oh I’m so great, the precious Jesus of the force”, and look where it got him haha! Anyway, the skills she developed with Luke have always been within her. I think she could never use her force powers up until the movie because she did not truly NEED them. She was never really in clear and present danger until the events of E7!

    I am a black man and the ONLY reason that I went to see The Force Awakens is because literally every single promotion and tv spot I saw featured John Boyega front and center with a lightsaber but when I actually saw the movie the overall theme I got every time he used that iconic weapon was, "You have no business using that".
    It was so bad that I can guarantee all the racists who were ready to boycott a Black Jedi will rush to see him fawn and follow after the little white girl for whom he is in reality just holding the lightsaber; the REAL Hero of this story. Where she was naturally gifted at(Painfully,literally)EVERYTHING she attempted, he was the bumbling comic relief that was called a traitor throughout the movie, accused of being a thief on sight, and was ultimately revealed to have previously been a FUCKING JANITOR, all before being slashed up the spine and left comatose.
    The most infuriating part of the whole thing is that J(ar) J(ar) Abrams will get all this credit for diversifying Star Wars when all he did was take the beautiful and talented Lupita Ny' ongo and turn her into an orange alien and make a high profile FBS(funny black sidekick) and then punish him for having the nerve to hold a lightsaber that wasn't purple...
    I just think that's an important perspective on the movie that no-one will hear because Star Wars gets special treatment from critics. If only three people read this in your comment section them I'm happy.

    Luke: Well I have a few questions to ask when did you make a kid in the first place , why did you change the Rebels Alliance to the Resistance,why is C3PO has a red arm now,and how come Chewbacca never seems to age

      chewbacca's race lives to about 500 years, the specific time of when Han and Leia had a child is irrelevant, Rebels became the Resistance likely because Leia didn't want to keep the same name, and C3PO got a new arm cuz his last one broke.

    Are you really comparing Luke's Death star victory to Rey's seeming invincibility? Luke was a good pilot and was mentioned by Luke as he said, "We use to shoot Romprats back home on my T-16, which were about the same size as the weak point of the deathstar. This fact was reinforced by both Biggs and Obi-Wan commenting on Luke's skill. And even then he would've died if Han didn't save his ass. Darth Maul (a Sith apprentice) killed a Jedi master after dueling with two Jedi. And Rey beats Kylo (who was trained by both Luke and Snoke) with no training at all. And for the people who want to use the "he was injured" excuse. They showed that he was using the pain to fuel his aggression. The same thing happened to Vader when Luke got a quick shot causing Vader pain. What happened two seconds later? That's right off with Luke's hand. I'm sorry the inconsistencies (for what has been established in the previous moves) of Rey's victory cannot be logically argued.

    • @CJBerdomas
      @CJBerdomas 8 років тому

      +plo617 It would have been better it showed Rey has someone who is extremely powerful, but uses the Force like a hammer, while Kylo Ren because of his training, would use the Force as more of an extension of his body. Or showed while Rey is stronger in the Force, Kylo Ren is the better swordsman.

    • @perrysantulli3367
      @perrysantulli3367 8 років тому +2

      +plo617 I think the fight was pretty well done. I mean for the first part of it, Rey is mostly running away and on the defensive. Only after she's reminded of the Force does she tap into the power and become offensive. The scene, and it's outcome, were really meant to show that for all Ren's training, with Luke or Snoke, Rey still has more potential and more raw strength.
      And, similar to how Luke's skill was testified by Biggs and Obi-Wan, Rey's skill, or at least connection to the force, is shown through her experience with Anakin's lightsaber and the vision it conjures; it certainly doesn't show anything to Finn when he grabs it.
      On a different note, this fight was also a really good end to this movie's arc for her, and it shows us that the light side is a much more powerful ally than the dark; which is a great change of pace, considering how often we're shown the Dark side over-powering or subduing the Jedi.

      +plo617 Agreed.
      Instead of having Rey run away into the forest when Maz wanted to give her Luke's lightsaber..they should've just had her practice or something. It would've made her "invincibility" during the final fight that much easier to believe. (I mean, suspension of disbelief is important and all, but it has its limits)

    • @xxSennaxx
      @xxSennaxx 8 років тому

      +Paradox Acres But Rey had melee weapon experience- her staff. She's obviously been using her staff for a long time, and it's not so difficult to believe that she can transfer that knowledge to using a lightsaber.
      I also interpreted the interrogation scene as Kylo's force powers being the "trigger" that awoke her own latent powers and made her realize what she might be capable of.

    (Haven't finished the video yet) On your points with Finn, I have to agree. He had the most depth and character development in the movie where I feel like he should've been the main character.
    Rae was reactionary for the most part. Finn actually made decisions that not only went against what he thought of himself but also progressed the movie.

    My cons towards TFA:
    1. yet again using death star-like weapon, although someone pointed out that it is possible snoke had double motives for it. one, to destroy several planets at once, obviously, and two, to lure luke from hiding. that i think is a legit reason to build another death star.
    2. the very last scene when there's a helicopter panning over luke and rey. it feels really out of place, and i'm not the only one who thinks that.
    3. under use of john williams score. i mean seriously, one of star wars main recognition is john william's score. the score can barely be heard.
    4. it is still fairly easy to destroy death star/starkiller. attack just one place hard enough to destroy that one bit, boom, everything is dead. cant the first order build several of those very far away from each other? you know, more redundancy?
    My pros towards TFA:
    1. Literally everything else. EVERYTHING ELSE. The movie is awesome!
    My favourite scenes in descending order:
    1. Rey Force grabbed Luke/Anakin lightsaber. And then the Force/Luke's theme played out. Holyshit. Goosebumps. I saw that one coming, yet it still feels greater than what i was expecting. that was better than when luke did the same on hoth in empire's strike back.
    2. Kylo's face turning from light and red to all red before killing han. this one rivaled luke's same dilemma in Return of the jedi.
    3. the opening crawl, mentioning luke has vanished. threw all of my expectation out of the window.
    4. Knight's of ren in rey's vision.
    My favourite badass scenes in descending order :
    1. Rey kicked kylo down after she kicked his ass. greatest hero over foe moment in 2015 at least.
    2. kylo stopped a laser bolt midair. my jaw dropped.
    3. Rey overpowered kylo and ended up reading his mind.
    4. han shot a stormtrooper without looking.
    5. poe just wiping out 4 or 5 maybe 6 TIE fighter in one manoeuvre. truly showed that he is the best resistance fighter.
    My favourite comedic scenes in descending order
    1. the scene you mentioned when finn couldnt get the right thing for rey to fix falcon, and end up wanting just a tape. that was hilarious.
    2. bb8 thumbs up.
    3. finn hazing phasma. haha
    4. oh, YOU"RE COLD!
    Favourite new characters in descending order:
    1. I'm a sucker for jedis, badassness and cute girls, so Rey.
    2. kylo
    3. Poe and finn. they're a tie.
    Ranking of star wars in descending order:
    1. empire strikes back
    2. force awakens
    3. star wars
    4. return of the jedi
    5. revenge of the sith
    6. phantom menace
    7. attack of the clones
    Final verdict: Awesometacular, 9/10, same rating as Empire strikes back, terminator judgment day, the dark knight, silence of the lambs, etc.
    P.S. i just wrote an entire review in 30 minutes. good job for me.

About Finn, I like that he is basically a growing Badass Normal and the heart of the team. Not all black men characters have to be a Full-Blown Badass archetype, people! I loved this movie, and I loved seeing the 13-15 boys in front of me having such a good time with it. This movie just made me happy, just like GotG made me happy last year. And I want a BB8 toy, so, good job Disney.

    I love, love, LOVE this movie! That part with Han made my whole chest hurt. Oh my goodness, took my breath away! The setup for that scene was perfect, too. The lighting and going on that bridge. You know something is going to happen and it might not be good. I hope they do more with Leia's character in the coming films. I'm curious to see how they explain her own Jedi abilities. And I'm curious about Rey. I think she could be Luke's daughter. My friend I went with thinks they're doing the twin story again. Excited for the next one and now I want to watch the original trilogy again.

    After The Force Awakens, I really want to see more of Rey, Finn, and Po. All three were great and fun characters.
    Po is Wedge with the personality of Han Solo. Rey is Luke. And Finn seems like he is going to be Leia. Yeah, the black man is Leia. But I can see him becoming a field commander who forms strategies to complete missions. Meanwhile Rey deals with the major threats and Po kicks ass in and outside of a starfighter.
    Not a perfect movie, but good. I'd say it's almost as good as the Original movies. A solid 8/10.

    About Rey, a good character is a flawed character, and she was just too perfect. There were several moments where she came across as a mary sue.
    About Kylo Ren i think he needed to win that fight. It would establish him as a threat, an obstacle to overcome and instead he became a joke when the hero (who has never even touched a lightsaber before) defeats him in a lightsaber duel (you know, the one thing he specialises in) in the first movie in a trilogy. The only ways they could salvage that is to make him immensely more powerful in the next film or replace him altogether with a more powerful villain.

    • @snopdoog3308
      @snopdoog3308 8 років тому +1

      +deeprest1 But there were moments when she showed fear and vulnerability and she fully trusted Finn's lie. A Mary Sue is 100% perfect at everything whether it be emotional and physical. Also, Kylo Ren was bleeding out from a wound and filled with reckless anger that kept him from having a level head in sword combat.

    Fin would've been able to use a light sabre from his academy training. Not that he would've been taught specifically to use a light sabre, but judging from what his opponent was using, some sort of melee combat weaponry.
