I just got the variants for the new Lethal Protector book. there is a nice full cover variant (back and front) if you can find it. It just came out last week though, so probably can.
First time I seen one of your videos, just getting into pressing as I always paid for others to do it, but I’m confident I can do a decent job. I’ve watched a few vids on the subject now, and yours has given me clarification on things I can do that I was unsure of, great video, thank you for your time in sharing, given the thumbs up and subscribed, great content 👌
I mean if it works good for you on getting higher grades why not. Seems genius and innovative and there is no denying that book looked amazing. Definitely a huge difference!
I don't know about their use in cleaning comics but I was taught not to use pink erasers when cleaning electrical contacts because they leave behind an oily residue. I was told use a white art eraser.
Thanks for the video sir. I am curious though, the popular method in the pressing community for this book is 160 degrees for 10 minutes. How did you come up with 200 degrees for 20 minutes? I have NEVER heard of pressing ANY book at such a high temperature or pressing for so long. Best to you.
Thank you for sharing this level of content. I was curious if you have learned anything new or changed techniques since this was originally posted in 2020? Salute!
Great vid! Can you do a clean tutorial for a 1970s book? Where the paper wasn't as glossy? Im so nervous to use an eraser on the thinner non glossy paper. Thanks!
60lb cardstock, keep in mind that it may produce a ridge along the spine of a cover in which afterwards you would have to use a tacking iron with a chamfered comic book or magazine backing board to smooth it out
Those cracks made me cringe but I can not deny the results. Awesome video man! How come you don’t steam your books first, in your opinion is that a wasted step?
@@joeciaravino2732 should be able to Google it. Trust me. This video is almost the exact way to Not press a book. I do it for a living and you don't want to follow any of the directions in this video
This video is comical. Everything from materials, method, time and temp is the way to how "not to press a book". Its videos like this that keep professionals like myself in business
Everyone has there own methods of doing things. This way works perfect for me, and I've had great success on it. I appreciate the comment and watch. Hit that subscribe button on the way out to watch more of my how to videos!
@@cfoxtrot22 I understand people have different techniques but the materials you use and your method will only lead people to a path of destruction. The eraser you use is not recommended. The fact that your book crackles tells anyone who knows that the book has been exposed to way too much heat. Im ok with you using a cheaper press. I realize not everyone can afford top equipment but I don't think you should be recommending tools and methods that will damage books
I want you to rewatch the video, just to 1:25. There i explain my disclaimer. However, its hard to find you credible. You have no videos of how to press or clean, or even, any video on how to properly maintain any conic book on your page. Yet you want to fill my feed with your "so called knowledge" of how to NOT do it. Then continue to claim that its your "profession". From an outsider, you kind of don't have a leg to stand on. Or even be reputable or taken seriously. Seems like leaving hate comments is your thing unfortunately. Which doesn't bother me, but makes this helpful community aware to who to watch out for. Thanks again, and remember to SMASH that like button on the way out!!!
@@cfoxtrot22 Everything looked ok to me. Yeah maybe the heat was a little high, and perhaps a shorter 'cook' time might be preferential to hopefully avoid the cracking when you turn the pages, but from my perspective the comic was a LOT cleaner and crisper, so what's not to like? Some people just like to moan, and dear Jeff is one of them. Carry on I'd say.
I have a similiar press, and my books are coming out wavy on the top and bottom. I set it to 150 degrees , heat 5 min on each side and let it sit in the press for about 20 hours or so. Can you give me any suggestions. I have watched a bunch of videos and everybody is different and its confusing. Thanks
Love to see this process on a coated modern glossy cover. The parchment will leave mottling and completely ruin the cover gloss. Backing boards are comic book storage supplies, not pressing materials. Cotton balls do pretty much nothing to clean dirt, embedded grime and stains from comics. You need to start looking for new processes. And perhaps invest in a quality press as well. Have you checked the temperature calibration on that thing? Most of them run at least 20 degrees too hot. Hilarious presentation - should wear clown makeup next time.
Bro, thank you so much for the comment and good laugh!!! They say that early success comes from haters and crab potters, and you're one of the first! Thanks for describing the items you're using and how you're using them. And reinforcing the patience is a good point.
Use 2 sheets of printer paper between the cover and 1st page
On high gloss ink books do the same between each page

I prefer to use heavyweight paper under the covers and centerfold
Does that keep the book more flat, compared to the magazine backing boards?
Yeah, i too use paper behi.d the cover and back cover, and a mix of boards and/ or paper in the center. Just depends on what your working with
60lb cardstock, keep in mind that it may produce a ridge along the spine of a cover in which afterwards you would have to use a tacking iron with a chamfered comic book or magazine backing board to smooth it out
Care to share what grade this came back as?
Did you get it graded? If so, how did it turn out?
Wow! Seriously great video man
Kick ass video nice work 👍
Great Video. Your pressing procedure, is this only for like bronze and up or can this be done on Golden Age and Silver?
What is the make and model number of your pressing machine? Thank you for a great video!
Low temp do gloss pages I'm guessing
Do you suggest the same process for silver age comics?
silver age comics will be a different process,, different paper quality and cover... will require different temps too and time
What’s the name of the press you are using? Great video.
I like the white high polymer erasers if it’s real bad a majgic eraser is good
Doesn't the erasing dull the original gloss on the covers?
Or does the heat somehow even it all out?
It can, if your not careful, there are tricks to bring back that gloss look as long as you don't go too crazy scrubbing it clean
have you tried this on LP covers?
If your press is large enough, you can even press the album, just gotta be careful.
Those cracks made me cringe but I can not deny the results. Awesome video man! How come you don’t steam your books first, in your opinion is that a wasted step?
wasted step, not needed for modern age books,,, steam is good for older books like bronze age or silver. good luck
Awesome, thank you, I'm investing in a heat press to start pressing, whats your opinion on the Teflon vs the parchment paper??
Don't use either. Use proper SRP paper if possible
