Do you do a fun thing every time you sing ABC's? I tried it with plop and they loved it, but then they never wanted to do ABC's without it. My kids are younger (mostly 2) but they love love love circle time.

I have started making more sets of those cards. For Dinosaurs for instance, they stood up and when they saw a Tr ex...they stood up and said "Stomp!" For Halloween there are ghosts...and they say Boo! Thanksgiving a turkey They say "Gobble"...and so on. I think I need to put them in my TPT store or on my website store!...or offer more freebies for my email list maybe! My 3-4's and my 4-5's LOVE them all! Email me at teachprek101@gmail.com and I'll send you the dinos!

I think the problem w letter of the week is when EVERYTHING is tied to that. It’s too much for kids who know that letter and not enough for those who don’t because they will never work with it again. My approach is similar to yours-all letters all the time, with a focus on specific ones at certain times, circling back constantly in different ways throughout the year

EXACTLY! It has to be holistic or it just doesn't mean anything to them. You and I are on the same page. I actually think that most teachers teach that way. Again, it's not a binary choice...you can choose a letter for a focus each week, but you have to have a solid system in place to teach all the letters while you do that. I love having a focus letter while I teach all the letters, it is kind of like each letter just gets some special attention throughout the year!

Do you have a name of the day every day, or how often?

I do name of the day each day. I have a checklist on my circle time cart and I cross the names off as I do them, then I erase the checked off list and start over. Once the kids become really good at recognizing their names, I don't write it down...I just have the mixed up letters, then I add one extra "mystery letter" to give another challenge. then I add 2 letters that make a sight word-like it, if, at, an, of etc. That keeps the name thing going and adds sight words, then I add three letters that form a cvc word like cat, man, etc...I only do the extra letters with my Pre-K 4-5's when they have mastered the previous levels. I have a video that show the whole process.follow this link
