My grandfather hated the English because he lost a lot of relatives in the "Boerenoorlog" ( as a lot of Dutch people did) but in WW II things changed. The Germans, who we thought were friends, became our ennemies and the English became our friends. Myself: i have good memories of working together wit both te German army and the army of GB.

He could've been a commando who wanted to go see his love in upington which means exposing himself in the british controlled cape colony.

My grandfather was in Egypt ,born of Prussian missionaries I asked him about war he said it was terrible.
