The Thrive tree stump fogger! It's like 60 bucks US. Holds barely any water, and you still have to run a cord out of the enclosure. Super goofy product in my opinion!
Bioactive substrate kit. Pretty much any substrate at the pet stores. You get like 10x the coconut fiber at a garden supply for half the cost. Different mulches for animal bedding is at the farm supply. Huge bags for $5.
I work at petsmart and I just wanna thank you for making these videos. It’s a very easy way for me to get my newer staff on the same page for harmful/useless products that we sell.
When I worked at Petsmart, I used to tell people to just go buy flood lights over ours for basking spots. There was no reason to pay that much for bulbs that will do the same thing, especially because reptile bulbs almost NEVER went on sale.
Great video. Things like the heat rock really need to keep being driven home since companies still make them. Sort of like the fish bowls for gold fish.
All my reptiles have loved the heat rock tho. But I'd say it'd really depend on the animal as mine were desert reptiles. Beardie loved it and my agamas built their burrow right underneath.🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
The heat rock reminded of when I got my first pet as a kid. I got an african fat tail from a local pet store. I remember he was in a 10 gallon tank with a TOKAY gecko and all the tank had was reptile carpet and a heat rock. Yikes.
The water hopper is actually useful if you need to go on vacation or a business trip or something for a few days, my Leo drinks a lot, and I agree, it’s super ugly, but I only use it when I’m away 😂
The idea is that the water would be full of bacteria. Water should be changed every 1-2 days to avoid that so they are useless since they just promote gross water.
We had one of those water feeder bowl things for our cats. They never drank the water from it. They just knocked it around because they liked to watch the air bubbles. The water wasn't fresh. I don't blame animals for not wanting to drink that. They want fresh water that's changed daily.
The water dispenser has a use: My tortoise always kicks substrate into his water bowl, but I have a water dispenser in my kitchen where he often goes while free roaming.
Totally agree with you on the reptile branded lights. I use just a ceramic heat emitter for my ball python and they're charging $30 and up per bulb at the pet store- they're actually locked up in most stores 😂😂 So I literally order ceramic heat bulbs from Ebay for $7 for a two pack. It's insane
Just letting you know: ceramic heat emitters aren’t the best primary heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option during the day, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than CHEs. Whereas CHEs only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin. CHEs are good for nighttime heat, though.
Great advice! I've definitely been scouting and bringing home choice sticks lately in prep for two huge bioactive builds. I get weird looks from my neighbors but it's totally worth it! 😂
I was waiting for tram once and saw a kid with very nice stick. When he entered his tram he left the stick at the ground so I took it and put in in my backpack. Other people waiting also gave me pretty weird looks lol. My snake loves this stick though.
I'm lucky enough to live near a massive rock outcrop with loads of mudstone and limestone... Issue is... Is that it's behind a Walmart 😂 It's also nice as a geologist, as there's loads of fossils there too.
Hey Adam, would really appreciate a video about when your reptiles get out of their enclosure and what you can do to secure a variety of different types of cages. More of just a general guidelines of what to do if they get out and, what to do to retrieve them.
Barrel bolts and locks as well as barrel hinge locks work great for securing polyurethane plastic cages! Never had any of my snakes escape using this method!!!
I used the water dispenser thing (not that one, an old one I already had) for when I was leaving my leopard gecko for a bit on vacation. It's useful for that when you know nobody that can come to refill the water. It prevents evaporation and I could tie it up to also prevent spilling (because my gecko was a water bowl spiller)
That 2nd thing you should is actually what I used to use for my cat, just scaled up. It was so useful since my cat just drinks at night, so I could actually get sleep.
Hoping the "whatever" at the end includes little costumes for bearded dragons, as I'm always on the lookout for more of them! Mine already has wizard & Christmas, but if I see anymore I'll definitely have to get them! (obviously the custom hat & bow tie too, but that came with his harness!) Pleased I've not really fallen for any of these useless products. I do still have the reptile bulbs, but that is more because the shop I used bunged me some extra when I bought my setups from them.
I make bearded dragon bandanas 🤣 also offer matching human scrunchies🤣 my dragon doesn't cooperate well enough for his costumes. He barely cooperated for the bandana product photo 🤣
@@sahvanna97 mine is often uncooperative with his harness, but when the costumes come out, he is the perfect little statue while I'm putting them on, then an even better as a model posing while it is on. Is often when it's time to remove it he starts making a fuss! 😄
Hey! I have a heat rock for my Stimsons Python and it's fabulous! I cut the cord off and glued a frog to it and use it as a rough decor that he can rub against when he sheds lol
Had a good laugh when I saw the halogen light. I buy those exact lights from dollerama for my bearded dragon tank! They last for almost an entire year usually before burning out and cost 3 bucks. Best deal ever.
Cool tank and in red too!! I am definitely a violator when it comes to those heat bulbs. Definitely going to the local dollar/ hardware store and change my ways. You spend all this money just to burn out in 5 minutes.
I was certainly wondering about those repti-reservoirs. My cat had a bowl like that and he loved it (normally he wouldn’t drink anything out of a bowl, that actually got him to drink out of more than the toilet or bathtub). Buuuut a cat is not a lizard. (Well, they have fur, but they sure act like one sometimes, but I digress…) I thought about the same for “useful if we go on vacation?” but it’s extremely easy to just put in a bigger bowl or get a friend to stop by and fill the dish.
I started watching you abt 2 mo ago I think and I love your vids so much! You’re so cool and have such a great channel thank you so much! Keep up the amazing work
Yes! Heat rocks = terrible idea! We have one that came with one of our bearded dragons along with his enclosure and everything in it. I hated the idea of tossing the whole thing and didn't want to sell it for someone else to use and hurt their animal. So I made my husband cut the cord on it and now it just sits in his enclosure as a rock to climb on! Good list!
Thank you for this video. It was very informative! I’m relatively new to reptile keeping hobby (even though I’m not technically keeping any reptiles just helping others keep their animals right now) and your videos have been very educational.
I got caught on those red night lights at first too, switched quickly when I did more research…the heat rock too in the beginning. Thank God were teachable! And you have a great bod, but an awesome sense of humour :)

One thing I would like to see a video on is the topic of enrichment. What are good ways to provide enrichment for your reptile, especially the smaller ones that will easily get lost or cannot be easily handled?
Climbing enrichment (cork, branches, rocks, plants, ledges, background, etc.), digging/burrowing enrichment, feeding enrichment, sensory enrichment (eg. leaf litter), etc. Feeding enrichment can include varying the feeders you use, where you feed (different spots in the enclosure), how you present the food, etc. Also the provision of UVB and a heat source that produces near infrared, such as a halogen bulb.
Hey man, I've just found your videos and they've been so helpful with my Beardie. I've got a question for you, what is your opinion on changing up Beardie enclosures? Eg. moving around some of the branches, hides etc. I've heard differing opinions and would love to hear yours.
For the second item, I'm training my reptiles to drink from water dispensers for small mammals. My bearded dragons will only respond to drips on their noses and mouths so it's much better for them to get water from one of those. Although I still put bowls in too for humidity and bathing options, quite often the feeders end up in the water and drown getting left uneaten and they get crapped in so they're not that great in general. And if those things happen, It means cleaner water is still there to drink.
A lot of hardware stores aren't carrying halogen bulbs/par bulbs anymore; at least not the type that you can use for heating. They're almost exclusively low power or LED versions. The only places I've been able to get a consistent supply has been at reptile stores (while paying the premium price).

That repti rock reservoir is literally the exact same thing I made in middle school for free as an “applied tech” class project that is so dumb. At least mine I made for my dog, who it was actually useful to have extra water for when people were at work and school all day, and it got used for quite a long time. What reptile drinks so much water that a once a day water change isn’t enough?? I’d never use it for my reptiles
Agree 100% Get a very large bag of substrate from your local garden store for half the price of the pet stores small bag. Wood and vine branches drift wood I harvest for free just like your rocks. Enrichment plants you can get from the dollar store or craft shop way cheaper. Hides make them yourself.
The water dispenser is definitely not for hermit crabs. They drink from a sponge inside a shallow bowl/shell. Anything that size could allow them to drown. The only way it may be somewhat of a use to them is to help keep the high humidity levels they need.
As a hermit crab owner, that water hopper things will not work for hermit crabs. They need to be able to fully submerge in separate bowels of saltwater and freshwater, and even if they do fit in it, it’ll get covered in sand and stuff quick, given it’s size.
I wish I could find those glazed terracotta pots! All of my stores seemed to have the regular ones. So I have resorted to expensive ceramic dishes that are adorable solely for my enjoyment 🤣
