Great video! I had a med school student player who really didn't want fantasy, so I had to homegrown an entire class which was an Intelligence based battle medic. No real spells, but spell like abilities that all had medical based names that both would heal people on the battlefield and could also provide significant one-shot style attacks when landed. Her sub-classes were based on if she wanted to go down the pharmacology route (potions, salves, and poisons), the neurological route (stunning and confusion based stuff), or the vascular route (high damage output blood letting attacks)

I would also HIGHLY recommend the *Gunslinger* class by *Heavyarms.* It's hands down the most well designed 3rd-party class I've ever come across, in my opinion. It's designed heavily around critical hits, and does so in a way that makes it really stand out as its own class with its own niche. Rather than making firearms more powerful, the class makes your character more powerful with firearms (which are included with the class and deal between 1d6 and 1d12 damage depending on the type of firearm). The abilities Bad Medicine and Deadeye showcase this perfectly. Bad Medicine lets you roll additional dice when you crit, scaling at levels in the class which correlate with proficiency bonus increase, up to a maximum of 6 additional damage dice when you crit. Deadeye on the other hand expands your crit range the more consecutive hits you land. Each time you successfully hit with a firearm your crit range expands by 1, capping out at a 16-20 crit range. The balancing factor to the expanded crit range is that, IF YOU MISS, your crit range resets back to 20 and you have to start over again (Sharpshooter is actually worse for this class because of this). It's such a well made class and it's a permanent option in all of the games I run. If you have a player that wants to play a class designed around crit-fishing, I highly recommend they give this a try. And because the power comes from the class and not the firearms specifically, you can totally make the gunslinger work without firearms, and just use bows or crossbows instead.

I gotta say, the witch sounds like a straight up mash-up of the Pathfinder 1E Witch and Oracle. PF1E Witch is prepared arcane caster with hexes and cackle and a familiar, Oracle is spontaneous divine caster with a curse and blessings that you select to define your own sub-class. PF1E has a TON of base-classes that all have their own unique 'thing' that they get, as well. Wonderfully fleshed out.
4e also had tons of unique classes that lost in transition. It is just sad - especially because 5e have track record of making some classes so bland that people actually believe in "more classes = bad" now - barbarian, ranger and monk are good examples of this - people say that they should be subclasses of fighter, even though it is possible to make them unique, 5e just failed to do so.
@@notsochosenone5669 I'm honestly incredibly sad about what happened to ranger and barbarian in 5E. Monk is hard to get right, but Ranger and Barbarian should be pretty easy.
I loved seeing the psion class again, one of the first characters i ever rolled up was one. But i was kinda bummed to not see Gunslingers and my personal favorite, the Chef class.
Pugilist is the ultimate damage sponge. I played one through a whole campaign, switching subclass to the Hand of Dread halfway through due to a deal with a demon. He saved our squishy casters from so much damage and was able to pull off some great combos like using Lancing Eldritch Blast to pull opponents into a Haymaker. Easily my favorite martial class.
Another great martial support class is the Warlord by KibblesTasty. Like you said, it's KibblesTasty, so it's really well thought out and balanced, and it's so much fun. I think there's like six subclasses that are all unique from each other
I love that homebrew classes are getting covered, and it feels like a crime Laserllama wasn't mentioned lol A great homebrew class I discovered months ago but haven't used is The Keeper which explores the fantasy of being a living vessel for some powerful creature and channel their power whether angelic, demonic, beastly, mechanical, fey, monstrous, plant, or undead. Basically you can play troupe of an anime protagonist with an inner demon, and all the subclasses are just the all the creature types in the game Edit: I forgot to mention another homebrew class is Dnd Shorts' Element Bender class
Some homebrew classes that i'd love to see would be: ● an apothecary-like martial healing class, whose skills include healing, customisable poisons, and called shots. ● a skirmisher class that specialises in mobility and thrown weapons ● a "sapper" or some kind of martial combat engineer that can make permanent alterations to terrain and build fortifications. ● A half-caster whose spells are all support and utility focused
Dungeons of Drakkenheim has an apothecary class that has 5 (or 6?) subclasses. None of them are poison based, but the spell list has a lot of poison spells on it. Onlycrits has a whole book about a doctor class too Not homebrew, but the scout rogue is a mobile skirmisher which could work with throwing knives

I have looked at length into the Pugilist class, and it is a strong class! But it has one thing no other class in official material has: there are No Dead Levels. It ALWAYS gets something EVERY TIME it levels up, whether it's a core class feature or subclass feature. It's just stuffed to the brim which is a bit off putting at times. Let me settle in and play around with my new toy before you hand me another brand new one. I feel like I'm supposed to constantly be excited about what comes next, instead of what I just got.

My favorite piece of homebrew EVER, is path of the giant barbarian subclass. Literally on day one, when I created my first character, I saw the troll race as an option and it sparked this absolute perfect power fantasy for me. I wish to be a huge brute in my party, not necessarily doing typical barbarian stuff or being dumb, just big and hard to miss. That bodyguard feeling that the big quiet party member gives off, I’ve always wanted to portray that. I’ve yet to play with path of the giants… but some day I wish to
Hey man, love the video! I think we should absolutely shine more light on the homebrew/3rd party content out there! Just wanted to point out that MCDM's Illrigger actually got an update, now with more subclasses (the hellspeaker and the sanguine knight) and more options on how to use their infernal seals. Also, it should be noted that the Architect of ruin is actually the only spellcaster, the others just get magical abilities through their seals and features.
One of my favorite homebrewers of all time is LaserLlama, especially their Magus and Savant. Magus is heavily inspired by Pathfinder’s Magus, and lets you cast spells by hitting people with your sword. Savant is another big brain martial who’s all about analyzing your enemy and finding weaknesses. Discombobulate.
I’m workin on a dnd class called the Wanderer, where you can assume forms relating to different creatures. I’m still workin it out but the basic idea is you got a couple transformations per shirt rest, start with 2 and end with 4. Anybody got suggestions on stuff to add? The playstyle tends to differ based on subclasses and includes: close up combatant, healer/support, trickster/illusionist utility and tank/transformation master. I’m still working on it but the idea is that your forms help you become these things, you aren’t just a barbarian or cleric lite.
"Homebrew a dnd class from scratch because gargantuan amount of work, and and intelligence that I don't have" OOO You don't know the half of it, I made one a copule of weeks ago and that took a few weeks for the base class alone
I would suggest to not sleep on LaserLlama content. He's also made similar classes to the Psion, Scholar (named the Savant in his case) and the Shaman. If you end up choosing those three types of classes to add to your game as options, the LaserLlama ones would allow for more...I guess consistency since it's made from the same guy. Plus, their interpretation of Shaman and Psion feel like warlock-adjacent classes that can kinda make that type of spellcaster its own classification, which I think is very interesting. Also, the Warlord is awesome.
I feel the need to point out, anything that isn't specifically mentioned or changed in the new books isn't removed, you just use the original unchanged 2014 version. You can still play Artificer.
the most unique homebrew class ive discovered is Ornithologist(bird scientist) you get summon birds, creatures no one really uses in their campagins and command them to do special commands, cooler than it sounds

Love the content and style of this video. For any future videos you make in this style could you turn down the background music? It is at a volume just below the volume of your voice making it hard at times to focus on what you are saying. I hope this helps and again thank you for the content you make for us.
I tried to improve the 2024 Ranger as homebrew with 3 subclasses, I think it turned out really well and now has good class identity. Problem is it hasn't been play tested and I don't know where to share it properly
I really wish Artificers were added in the PHB. I get not everyone likes tech in their fantasy. But at the same time it doesn’t mean it should be excluded. It’s just as iconic a class as the others. Just say something along the lines of “This class will not fit in some settings. Dungeon Masters can choose to either reflavor or exclude the class if their setting is not technology focused.” It’s essentially how people would treat it anyways. Just add in that bit so that players don’t feel entitled to using the class in any campaign. People have talked about this already but none of the mechanics of the class absolutely require the artificer to be magitech based. Reflavor it to better fit the setting.
Palaeo Games has an Artificer subclass that is called the bonesculptor who focused on crafting weapons, armor and even a companion construct of out body parts in Dr Dhrolin's Dictionary of Dinosaurs
@@havock89 neither is saying "anything x does, y can do" what can they do exactly? I have played many martials, pugilist is really unique and fighter doesn't compare have you played a pugilist?
i started making an artificer right before finding out artificers aren’t base game and i honestly don’t know what to do anymore, are they still able to be played?
The oddest thing is, Rangers should have an obvious theme: mobile warriors who can easily switch between melee and ranged weapons. Rangers, after all, range. It is an actual job that has persisted into the modern world. That WotC can't understand what a Ranger is (the fact that they put the 'scout' subclass in the Rogue list is proof that they don't know what Rangers actually did and do) doesn't mean that no theme exists. It's just proof that WotC is incompetent. They created teleporting rangers and underdark rangers and never once thought about making a trapper ranger.
Wotc understand who ranger is - they just don't want to commit to something because it would make some people sad. This is general 5e design phylosophy - make everything as applicable to everything as possible. 4e chose ranger to be full martial - so 5e made him into amalgam of everything ranger was in previous editions instead. IMO - wotc need to chose one. Make ranger into druidic warrior, or martial, or pet class - not blend everything into mediocre paste.
That won't fix the issue if the homebrew is more powerful than other players. Making everything harder to suit the new homebrew will make things impossible for the other characters
One word - Warlord. Most unique class in all dnd-adjusted systems that wasn't moved into 5e because "everything 4e is bad/too anime/too videogamey" or something equaly stupid (Mearl's "Just pick one battlemaster manuever" was a spit to the face of people who loved warlord btw - next time delete wizards and say "Just pick eldrich knight").
@@Zr0din You can’t remove something that wasn’t in the original. If you are, then I would also say they removed the Kobold, Tortle, Aaraokcra, Plasmoid, etc. races from the game.
Artificers were and still are Eberron born class. They were only added in Tasha's to port them into non-Eberron games. Maybe instead of crying about something minor you wait and see if it gets reprinted later next year. We all know they will release a book or two with extra classes and subclasses and it might return.

1:30 that “I don’t care” made me laugh more than it probably should have
You should look at the Monster Hunter class that Ghostfire Games is currently playtesting.
Also also, on the subject of MCDM classes, their Beastheart and Talent classes are equally superb!
I’m surprised no version of the gunslinger was put on the list, while it’s not for everyone especially the heavy arms version
I'm actually working on a homebrew class now and I'm going to start my second round of play testing.
Shaman Noir style spirit detective...Damn that does sound cool.
"Homebrew a dnd class from scratch because gargantuan amount of work, and and intelligence that I don't have" OOO You don't know the half of it, I made one a copule of weeks ago and that took a few weeks for the base class alone
I play a witch and play in a different campaign that has another and theyvare all do fun and unique
I made one called the voidian it is a lightweight class with some really good combo opertunities!
I think you’d really like the Elementalist from Pexias Guide to Omeria!
Did he forget about the hand of dread pugilist?
the most unique homebrew class ive discovered is Ornithologist(bird scientist) you get summon birds, creatures no one really uses in their campagins and command them to do special commands, cooler than it sounds
I played a pugalist and love it!
Summoner class is super fun.
the shaman class sounds little like new subclass for warlocks that has a undead as a patron or even a druid
How does a list of homebrew classes not have any laserllama in it
Right I'm playing Magus right now most fun I've had
I swear, Laserllama is slept on in the UA-cam space.
I love savan. Exactly what I wanted. If only "horse feat" gave advantage with ranged attack.
Mate thank you VERY MUCH for this video where u dont act like an actor from a childrens tv show with multiple low effort characters and weird dialogue between them, i prefer this adult targeted presentation, thank again for the eye contact and all that pre-tiktok vintage communication approach
I made a homebrew class that uses a skill point system to be entirely customizable
☝ description sounds somewhat reminiscent of the significantly older STEVE JACKSON GAMES method of character creation,a bygone era of VERSATILITY in role playing...
Hey, check out Pointy hat's Witch, It's cool
Love the content and style of this video. For any future videos you make in this style could you turn down the background music? It is at a volume just below the volume of your voice making it hard at times to focus on what you are saying. I hope this helps and again thank you for the content you make for us.
Git to shout out my new favorite class, the Tamer from Helianas Guide to Monster hunting. Its Pokemon meets Ranger in a beautiful way
I tried to improve the 2024 Ranger as homebrew with 3 subclasses, I think it turned out really well and now has good class identity. Problem is it hasn't been play tested and I don't know where to share it properly
I would totally use necromancer multi classed with shaman
I love the pugilist Ngl
Everything a bloodhunter does, a cleric with Alchemy can do in BECMI D&D.
I can't believe there's no LaserLlama class in this video.
Speaking purely theoretical here you could technically create a Jedi. Think about it a monk class that specializes in swordplay and phonics
Witch could just be a new subclass for warlock
I think Cleric has enough Necromancer stuff. Like maybe not all spells but pretty much
you had me at necromancer
Love the homebrew classes. But I think my favorite part was the SINK! ad :)
That is the Pathfinder 1E Witch and Shaman.
0:47 me looking at my 23 page doc of homebrew classes, all with 2+ subclasses
Tbh tho, like 90% of them aren't balanced (I think)
It might be in the DMG or setting book next year. Maybe they wanted more time to work on it
Palaeo Games has an Artificer subclass that is called the bonesculptor who focused on crafting weapons, armor and even a companion construct of out body parts in Dr Dhrolin's Dictionary of Dinosaurs
Everything a Pugalist does, a fighter can do in BECMI D&D.
not really
@@NuwandaLunaDragon you want to give an explanation of how I am wrong? Simply saying "not really" isnt a valid objection.
@@havock89 neither is saying "anything x does, y can do"
what can they do exactly?
I have played many martials, pugilist is really unique and fighter doesn't compare
have you played a pugilist?
12:57 The cheddar master?
Everything a witch does, a magic user can do in BECMI D&D.
Blood hunter also isn't in the bass book
Total 💯
Hey man great vid
But i was wondering if you could rate a subclass i made?
I need some advice on it
no laserllama 💀💀💀
i started making an artificer right before finding out artificers aren’t base game and i honestly don’t know what to do anymore, are they still able to be played?
Book!!!!
Scholar... I've heard of this before... wait. SW5e has something similar, right??
you dont have to playtest homebrew... you just gotta make encounters harder when it breaks the game.
That won't fix the issue if the homebrew is more powerful than other players. Making everything harder to suit the new homebrew will make things impossible for the other characters
Nah you can’t just violate the ranger like that. My brother loves rangers, they’re his favorite class
I love the artifcer, so this sucks.
0:05 “The kinda removed a class because artificers aren’t in the base handbook.”
They were never in the base handbook in the first place.
What?!? So, is this like saying the Bill of Rights is not part of the U.S. Constitution, so it doesn't count? Because that's what you are saying.
@@KnicKnac Exactly, they could always add it later. One book without them doesn’t mean the removed artificers.
@@reaganmonkey8 it does now mean that if you're playing the new DND rules, then you have homebrew artificers which is an annoying process.
No APOTHECARY and no JAEGER 😤😤😤
