It's really important to note these things: preorders were avaliable while Blizzard was still advertising the cutscenes of the reforged on the primary game page up to the day of release. This was blatant false advertising. They didn't change it even though they clearly knew that the final product was not going to look like what was promised and the image of the reforged stratholme cutscene was on the front page of the game leading up to the release.
you assholes. Sure be outraged, the product sucks. BUT IT WAS'NT FALSE ADVERTISING. I am a game dev with a decade of experience. As soon as big money hit the game industry things started to go downhill. This is a perfect example of that. Talent is bailing from the industry and greed and nepotism are taking over. This is not the Blizzard that made Warcraft III or World of Warcraft. It's just the name nothing more. And it's a disgrace.
First of all I agree with you. However, I believe the term you are looking for is venture capital funding (big money) otherwise known as vulture capital. They bring in large sums of cash, push for a huge initial public offering, then ruin every good idea by trying to milk every last cent.
It's not really true. I've looked at share price graphs and noticed a clear inverse relationship between Activisions prolificness as a publisher and their share price, but that's not what's most interesting. Activision took a HUGE spike in share price during the proliferation of microtransactions across Call of Duty, Destiny 2 and Blizzard games. This also coincided with the King acquisition. The microtransaction bubble burst in 2018 and Activision summarily had half of Blizzard's brain power fired. Microtransactions literally destabilized and made utterly fragile two of the most solid and reliable companies in this industry. Maybe there oughtta be a law? It's not just bad for the consumers, it's BAD overall. But the share price is still up so nobody is willing to look at it in those terms. Insanity.
In the AAA and maybe even high AA markets? Sure. But as bad as things are, there is still a lot to be hopeful about as well. We've never had a better time where tools were so accessible for making games. The indie scene has exploded in the same timeframe that AAA has slid off the cliff. Sorta reminds me of the stories from the Atari and NES days where 2-6 people would be behind some popular titles.

Muradin: forget this business. lead your men home. Arthas: damn the men Blizzard: forget this business. make your players happy. ABlizzard: damn the players
Well...... maybe this post will drown in a "sea of indignation", but still I consider it necessary to speak out on this score as a player with almost 20 years of experience in these projects. However, no matter how crazy it sounds, but I loved and continue to love this campaign. First of all, because of the people working there ordinary people (artists, composers, programmers, etc.), who, despite all the failures, continue (at least to please us a little). And yet, I remain grateful for all that was. I can’t just take and delete these 20 years with Blizzard from my life. It is like a "second world" to me. But the last one - this release, hit me with such force that I am discouraged. As far as I remember, Blizzard has always been distinguished by the quality of its projects. Yes - everyone experiences failures, mistakes, we are all ready to forgive you. But this...this is a blow below the waist. Here, everything already borders on the greed of the leading campaign Activision to such an extent that it cannot be expressed in words. I have one question - why are you doing this to us? We continue to be with you, we continue to support you. Even the criticism that has thundered now is characterized as something not indifferent to you, but just an attempt to sort it out and get answers. Or do you want us to turn our backs and boycott? What will we stop paying definitively for your games? That we just stop going into your projects? Yes, for many (as for me) it will be difficult, but if this is the only thing left, then we are ready. Believe me. it’s not too late to correct your mistakes (yes, I know many will continue to write that “everything is dead” or “too late.” But how much careless attitude towards us should not be ignored. And yes - any business should have its own “limitations” - for the sake of quality. I still hope (albeit "stupid" I hope), but still, it will make you "at least" think and bring the next projects to the desired result. For us - your auditory. The past 2 years have been the worst in campaign history. And even if this does not force your leadership to do anything, then this is the end. (For real). Without any whining, etc. P.S Still your Wanderer. Thanks to all those who read this post.
I remember blizzard talking to us like consumers and succeeding in trying to succeed in a lot of their games, but now I feel that they are talking to me like I am the product. Makes me deeply saddened.

Blizzard's success can largely be attributed to one key feature: the warcraft 3 world editor. All they needed to do was give people an updated sandbox to let their imagination run wild. Instead, they made the box smaller and took out all the sand.

And they parked vultures in business suits above the box to swoop in and steal anything that looked monetizable.

In the end you know is the best thing to do, why keep giving your money to them when they don't give anything good to you in return? Is not worth it, they're not gonna change, Blizzard is doom and will keep falling in the pit just like Bioware. I'll just keep the good memories with me and move on.
I felt the same way when I cancelled. , Final Fantasy XIV has been a welcome home for a WoW refugee like me.
Second this
I fell out with WoW around Legion. I just couldn't lie to myself anymore: I was being used for money. But it wasn't just WoW. I looked back over my time with Activision-Blizzard as a whole. Somewhere around 2012, they just..changed. The mess that was Destiny, the reboot of Project Titan into Overwatch, the constant line pushing with WoW after every expansion...Instead of leading, they just started following. WoW gets the worst of it, because having stomped every other MMO into the ground, there are few left who have anything Blizzard can steal.
The only thing that I play anymore that is a Blizzard title is Starcraft 2 and the on reason I think they wont give up completely on that game is because of the revenue from the Esports scene. I'm not sure what the future of that game holds though, so only time will tell.

Well...... maybe this post will drown in a "sea of indignation", but still I consider it necessary to speak out on this score as a player with almost 20 years of experience in these projects.
