I started simular variations 10 years ago and it completely changed my style...great lesson. These and para diddle diddles can be applied around the kit SO MANY different ways!
As always, people look into these videos way too much! Pedantic and rude. Why not just appreciate the time and effort that's been put into this. Educational tips! There's always something each student can take from lessons like this. Btw, Beckham couldn't make the shoot so Craig stepped in last minute (I hope that clears that section up!). 😄🙌
Honestly -- if you're posting a video on the Vic Firth channel, you have the responsibility of posting the right info. You know a bunch of new drummers will be watching your videos eventually, and learning based on the info you give them. If you give them the wrong sticking for the 4th paradiddle, they'll learn it the wrong way. Not a big deal, but it takes a lot more time to correct something than learn it correct right away. Pointing out a flaw doesn't mean I don't appreciate this or other videos of Craig.
Andy Jones amen,I was thinking same.everybody has to gripe about something on f.b. because no one hears them unless they type a neg comment . just be kind,if you don't like move along.
I used to use Paradiddle 1 in a break using the high hat as well. It sounded great in a pretty quick tempo rock song. I never really ventured that out into other fills and beats like this. These are great. Thanks for the video!
Hi, even tho iam self thaugt, been drumming for 4 years now, almost 5. The rudiments are like the words and letters of your drumming. For you to speak you will need to know the basics, like the letters. In drumming, rudiments are the foundation of everything you do, every sticking you make, its a rudiment. You have 40 basic rudiments (classic), but everything you play can be a rudiment, normally we call those the hybrid rudiments. Trust me, it took me a long time till I understood the importance of rudiments, practice the 40 classic ones, and you will improve a lot, start with the most simple ones and slowly, and within a bit of time, you will see improvements. Buy a practice pad in your local music store if you dont have it, it will help a lot! Stay cool
Thanks Craig, great lesson. I didn't realize there were so many different versions of paradiddles. I'll check out your website. Great studio and awesome drumkit.
I was playing this in 68 69 like no other. Pulled it out of the Chapin book many years ago. It originally was in a be bop feel and I changed it with a straight 8th note feel while playing the 16ths between LH & RF. Don't play it anymore cause it's busy as hell!
Perfect . I have just finished teaching a lesson where I showed the student paradiddles around the kit. This is a great next step to that. Whats that snare by the way? Sounds great!
I enjoyed every single thing on here. im 59 yrs old & still perform live often. i love all things i can learn from. But now, im wondering if you advertise equipment to be purchased at a reasonable price & i wont have to go to music stores & pay the ridiculous mark up prices i do at times now. i usually purchase 50 pr. of sticks at a time from magazines that do give a decent price when you buy from same place & person from the magazine. im wanting a couple new kits & cymbals but the prices 2 me r insane. if there is something you can offer me at a more reasonable price i will purchase more things from you than i think you would imagine. i use zildjian & Pearl kits as my preference but am very open to other equipment. ive been playing 4 50 yrs & believe ive go 20-30 yrs left in me. i play all genres but rap. i tour with several bands. i thank you for ur time & lessons ill never quit learning from. i hope to hear a positive reply back as to purchasing all new equipment from you soon. i just auditioned for Stanley Clark Band & im wanted after this tour in progress now and be given contract to tour with him on next tour. i got this opportunity because of one already in his band for many yrs & we have become great friends from session work together in Nashville. Again, thank you so much & hope to get a positive reply soon. Thanks.......Hym Toward.
***** No problem, thanks foe watching! Heres my 2 pence (£GBP) on that: I like to think of the body as an engine, with a series of cogs. When you play fast, the dirt in the cogs might not stop the engine, or even be noticeable. But they are there and they are usually why something doesn't 'feel' right. When you slow your playing right down, you can see all of the dirt in the cogs, and the engine may stop. But it allows you to find weaknesses that might not manifest at faster speeds. Sort these out slowly and I guarantee you will be able to play faster than ever before!
I apologize for being off topic a bit on the parradiddle grooves, but who seriously likes a ride cymbal that is this resonant? It sustains forever. That can't be the most musical sounding ride in the world. I like my Sabian 21" HHX Groove Ride cause it's dark in nature, has a really projecting bell that sounds separated from the bow, and gets out the way so you can do other things on the kit/
+Erik Fraunfelter I like it, but then I also like my 22" Paiste 2002 ride & my ancient 22" Zildjian ride. I can identify a bit with you though. when I was younger I would put tape on the bottom of it to deaden it a bit. Now I love it just how it is!
Awesome stuff Craig! I've just gone through a load of your lessons, a lot of great material! Where have you got your studio set up? Is that in your own home?
Hi Craig, PDF is not found.. the final excerxise w the ostinato ride, does the ride hit at the same time with snare and kick ? or is it interveiled ?? would love to see that written
The fourth paradiddle is RLRL LRLR. But on beat 2 he keeps playing LRRL which would be an inverted paradiddle instead of the fourth position. I'm just confused by it, because it's not the fourth paradiddle confidently.
Craig, If I click on your picture on the Vic Firth Education, vicfirth.com/education-resource-library/ site I get a 404 error. vicfirth.com/craig-reynolds-drum-set-lesson-series/ Also this link vicfirth.com/craig-reynolds-lesson-series-paradiddle-hand-foot-grooves/ sends me to the bass drum speed and control lesson. Thanks for the great lessons. Keep up the good work. Hope this helps you get Vic Firth to sort their site out.
Yeah, the search is how I got to it, but the have the wrong lesson linked, (see above comment). I'm working paradiddles into my practice routine, with the hope of using them in songs. Unfortunately things didn't work out for my 12 year old self, so my 53 year old self has to work & has limited practice time. I like to keep sheet music around to remind me of the lessons I've watched. If you can find the link to the PDFs for this lesson, (Paradiddles), it would be great.

Redak video gde covek vise svira nego sto prica. Hvala ti.
As a bloody beginner, I so far have not understood what Rudiments are for, now it makes much more sense! Thanks guys

Tomás E Silva thank you for your comment, helped me a lot
First meaningful training video I found on youtube. Thx.
Thanks Craig, great lesson. I didn't realize there were so many different versions of paradiddles. I'll check out your website. Great studio and awesome drumkit.
There's still the paradiddle-diddle, double, and triple paradiddles. Plus other deviations you could do. It is endless man!
+Robert Abbott Absolutely, lots to practice, thanks for your comment.
Rudiments are generally great thing to practice. And if you try to practice on pillows instead on practice pad, that would give amazing results!
I have been trying to figure out that 1st paradiddle groove for years thanks for the awesome breakdown
All these paradiddle inversions really get my ears stretched! thanks for the tut!
This is fun. Also a very big Independence challenge too. Thanks Mate for this video.

interesting take on that fourth paraddiddle i must say. I use the RLRL LRLR. Gotta try that new one its like a single inverted double roll. I like it
My god, that bass drum sounds amazing!
very good
best explanation of paradidle I've ever seen in driving
Greetings from Brazil !!
thanks it helped a lot !!
Definitely will be practicing this! Thanks for the great vid!
Wow that snare drum sounds amazing. This is a really good video. I was struggling with moving the paradiddles off the snares and toms.
Very inspiring video. I really like that snare sound.
Nice lesson. Never tried Paradidles on Ride cymbal. I don't know why :)
Lovely sound from those drums...
That shit is harder then it looks... good job
just a bit , takes months of practice to get it down pat . Well it did me , felt like a proper narna when i started
David Haney I read this comment with a British accent. Hahaha
Proper Narna was the trigger.
Alright turkish?
Don't forget to put the high hat on the quarter notes! Helps so much with independence; thanks for the ideas bro :)
Wow! This is great. Even he teached it so easily, it's still very hard to do.. thanks a lot Sir.
really nice that bell ostinato. Have to give it a try. I already know that i will be struggling with it.
Your snare sounds so dope. My perfect snare sound,
That Snare... Omg, perfect sound
Thank you for teaching this technique. I always hear it but never understood tell now. I feel complete 😁
I like this very much to mix within other grooves. I mean, like little variations of a stablished groove.
Real smooth instruction. Love to pass it along if you don't mind.
Perfect . I have just finished teaching a lesson where I showed the student paradiddles around the kit. This is a great next step to that.
Whats that snare by the way? Sounds great!
An excellent fundamental lesson.
Wonderful lesson and very well presented thank you :)

good shit mate - cheers
Great lesson...
Good playing
Why is it sometimes easier to perform these motions at a faster tempo as opposed to a slower one?? Thanks for the lesson bro.

Craig Reynolds
Great analogy. Thank you Good Sir.
I do paradiddle 1 already like this but I keep a keep a steady right hand instead of my right hand matching kick.
Dang bro. Good job!
What's that stack? Sound awesome
I'm in love with that stack. what is it made of
Love it.
Love the backdrop
My drum teacher just taught me this! What a coincidence. 😜
Great vid!!!
Thx!!
that snare kills :D what brand is it ?
THAT bass drum is bump'N!
Very nice
Shouldn't the 4th paradidle be RLRL LRLR instead of RLRL LRRL ?
Dude, it's a rhetoric question, and you don't answer those.
That`s , rhetorical. ...
Sorry English isn't my first language, and I've always sucked at spelling. Gotta work on ti.
You wanna know the answer to your question?
Che I've answered my question already, but I'm open for new things. :)
Awesome drum sound.
What drum set are you using?
I guess its 13" snare..

Where have you got your studio set up? Is that in your own home?
Thank you my friend! The studio is mine and built in an outhouse not far from where I live
Outhouse must have a different meaning over there than here in the states ;)

When your ride sounds that good, who need hi hats?

Thanks bro👌
The link to the PDF is broken... I'd like to see it.
Merhaba ride zilinin sağ tarafındaki zilin marka ve modelini yazarmsınız..
When I open the pdf the page say "page no found" :c
Could someone provide me the pdf? It's not available anymore :o
Awesome
The link to the sheet music (PDF) does work. another option?
DOESN'T work for me.
Where does one find PDFs? Is there an ebook?
can you please show me how you tune the drum kit???
PDF - THE PAGE YOU REQUESTED WAS NOT FOUND, AND WE MAY KNOW WHY.
:(
Can someone recommend a good exercise for practising that right hand ostinato independence? Would be grateful
+Kuba Nowak Play those famous middle pages of syncopation with the ostinato on the ride, bass drum on the beat and read on the snare
I have never seen the fourth one"A Para para diddle diddle Par ?
Nice 👍🏽
whats the top head on snare? the hybrid? (carbon?
This snare, what a note ??
This sounds similar to the paradiddle polyrhythm Mike Mangini made a video on
What the heck happened to your page on Vic Frith? I was looking for the PDFs.
