New here but I’ve already binge watched most of your videos. Huge fan of the long form shoots you do and appreciate the way you explain your thought process. Hope you continue to upload these style of videos.
I love your style of the monologue explaining your shots! I’ve just started doing this in my head! I’ve been shooting birds for about 2 years. In the beginning I would get too excited, or be adjusting settings. Now that I understand the gear better, I can focus on the composition, the background, the light. If the subject is cooperative, I love really moving around it. Sometimes I’m amazed how different the shots are in post. Birds are tough and always on the move! But so rewarding when things come together!
Thanks so much for watching and for the wonderful feedback! Sounds great how you are approaching it and I agree, it's so rewarding when it all works out!
Just started watching your videos. I have to agree with one of the other commenters, your dialogue while filming made me stop and think about moving trying to get better backgrounds. You can always learn more. Thanks.
Only once have I had the pleasure of spending time with Florida Scrub Jays, but it was magical. I saw them at Jonathan Dickinson State Park during a family vacation to Florida. I'll definitely seek them out again whenever we make it back down to Florida. Love the scrub habitat too.
Great educational video ray! I currently have a z9 with my old len which is the 150-600 sigma C but never been 100 % with it and am looking at getting the 100-400 z lens but definitely taking your tips all on board and shoot the way you do and see how I get in! Too many portrait same shots out there but these are thoughtful photos with the compositions
Thanks so much for the wonderful comment and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure you can still do some great stuff with the Sigma but if you upgrade to the Nikon I'll bet the whole setup works a lot better for you!
@@RayHennessy I hope so I have been trying lately with compositions and stuff like that! Do really enjoy that way of shooting rather that getting the tight portraits I did forward you some on threads a while back not sure if you’ve seen them! But as always ray keep doing what you do and appreciate the hard work that goes into this!
@@lukemedcraft446 thanks again, it is fun trying to shoot other things than close portraits I agree. I did see the thread you forwarded, thanks for the heads up.
Yes, I shot this a while ago before that was an option. I now often use bird tracking, although I can't tell much of a difference in most circumstances compared to animal.
For these birds I will not share the location since they are locally a vulnerable species as is their habitat. I can tell you that most scrub habitat in Florida often supports them so they aren't too difficult to find. Ebird may also help with that as well.

Thanks so much for the great feedback, it's great to hear you are enjoying these! I've got plenty more to come.
Great video Ray. Its very interesting to hear you describe how you try to get the right position for the shot you want.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed that part of it!

That's great, they are so fun to watch and hang out with!
Great Video..like
Excellent video Ray. I learned a lot about how you set up your compositions.
That's great to hear!

Enjoyed the video. Was this before bird subject tracking? I saw it was in animal.
