I purchased a peony two years ago that was unmarked and no yet in bloom but it was surrounded by a variety I wanted. I planted it. It had the yellow stamens. I dislike these but it apparently cross bred with one of my other peonies. It was a magenta colored peony that now has the yellow stamens I dislike. I dug up the offending peony and gave it away, how can I get my older peony to revert back??

If a peony cross-pollinated with another type and reseeded itself, there is basically nothing that can "revert" the flower color to the other type. The only thing you can do is remove the peonies with colors you don't like, and keep the ones you do like, with the hope that they spread to fill the gaps.

Beautiful! Would they do well in a large container and would they survive if left outside over winter in our zone 5b?

They do well in containers but would not survive the winter unless the container is brought in to an unheated garage.
