Grew up with peonies and love both the old fashioned varieties and the Itoh vatieties. My current favorite is the yellow I bought about 5 years ago, strong stems and huge sized flowers. It is a real hit in my neighborhood. Planning on dividing it this year and also purchasing another color of the Itoh variety. They are a bit expensive but so worth it! Currently have 15 different peonies in my garden beds and add to my collection every year
@@Jartopia cross breeding is tricky. My dad and I tried it with iris years ago with no luck. I'll just enjoy the colors developed by more experienced pros.
R Darret- I was very lucky the elderly lady I bought my house from had no trees in the yard. I planted 3 situated to leave a lot of sunny area. I'm in a small house so that's why I seem to have more than the average gardening space. Didn't really go big time gardening until I retired, 7 years of gardening, constantly changing and trying new things. One plant I cannot grow is roses, Japanese beetles absolutely love them.
I live in zone 9b and just received 2 mail order yellow Itoh peonies today. Im so excited!! This is my first time with this gorgeous flower and plan to keep them potted and protected from gophers. Searching for any growing tips.
The 2 Itoh peonies (intersectional peonies) that were spotlighted specifically (in order) were 'Bartzella' and 'New Millenium'. Others mentioned as favorites were 'Callie's Memory', 'Rosy Prospects', and 'Scarlet Heaven'.

I am disappointed that the cameraman didn’t get any videos of the black or purple peonies. But the peonies farm is beautiful.
