My thoughts exactly. Good running engine first, dyno'd and sent down track for baseline BEFORE ever installing some janky crap like that. This video was a waste of time and proves nothing at all.

Im pretty sure the reason it made more power wasnt because it was making boost, but because the fan blades while running were less of an obstruction on air flowing into the engine. It sounded like it was running crazy rich. So I imagine if you ran an open carb it would have made more power.

I don't think that carburetors there right kind of carburetor for a turbo car to begin with and it wasn't held and an enclosure. Therefore it will not run if it was making any kind of boost above 7 pounds because it would not receive any fuel
At this point I still have no idea how the heck did you guys come up with the term 'turdos', but TWIN TURDOS FTW CUZ WHY NOT?! Suggestion to make the turdos more powerful: make a Y-shape over-the-carb 2-to-1 piping instead of the T-shape you're having now.. Y-shape pipe offers less turbulent air than T-shape pipe, which equals to better air flow, and equals to bigger power potentials..

TheOdd101 nope. A 1000hp engine typically uses 200-250 to drive the blower, leaving 750 to 800 useable hp at the crank. So basically that would require a Tesla motor just to drive the blower + battery system etc. A regular exhaust driven turbo is much simpler, smaller and lighter and uses mostly wasted energy in the exhaust system to drive it.
That iconic car needs and deserves some respect ! Clean it up , fix it and ride it , give it some LIFE and LOVE guys ! If you don't want it you could give it to someone that cannot afford to buy a new car and make a good thing while at it ! You could turn this around and be positive and creative at the same time ...those "turbos" looked like they were engines from a small plane by the way ...LOL , at least in the thumbnail they looked that way

It even had a Badge on it advertising that it was a Crossfire as if Chevrolet was proud of what they made. Needless to say the speedometer only went to 85 and only way to bury it was a long (very long) straight away. It was a complete turd. It looked good as far as body lines and design but completely useless unless you were drag racing a Mini Cooper in the other lane. And even then the good ole emission standards of the early 80's design would allow a Corvette to get stomped by ANYONE'S average daily driver.
Peggy Caudle I mean the f body engine itself is borderline OK if you ditch the intake manifold but it’s still a 305. The corvette version is a little better because it’s a 350 but like you said they’re all choked up by emissions gear and terrible cam specs. It’s much easier(and cheaper) to go for a vortec 350 or even a junkyard 5.3 for the amount of work needed to get any power out of them
The T joint for the air manifold is a big flow restriction. You can convert the electric power used to run those engines and compare it to the horse power used by real turbos. That would give you a ratio of the kind of boost you get from the real stuf to begin with.
Rounded off cam lobes. Firebirds had flat-tappet cams till 1987 or 1988. Oil companies took all the Zinc-phosphorus additives out if motor oil in like 2008, without warning anybody. So now we need ZDDP additive in our old motors
So doing some google tuning, and i would say at best you made up for the MASSIVE blow by and worn skipped timeing chain with your twin fans. I would like to ask for a do-over with 1 a rebuilt engine and 2 a vacuum/ boost gauge. other wise this is less sketch than roadkill's 5 gas powered leaf blowers.

@UGU Zach - Aerodynamics start having a small-but-noticeable effect on race car aero at 60 MPH and ram-air does have an effect - albeit a small one - at even lower speeds. Whether or not it could overcome air resistance to provide some tangible numbers; that I don't know.

That's incredible you actually got 30 usable noticeable back wheel horsepower at home Depot that's better than buying a ECM chip, and if you're talkin about old Fox body mustangs a Paxton supercharger only get you a little bit more than that the centrifugal supercharger that runs in line

lol how many cil's was this running on? Kinda sounded like 5 or 6 or maybe crossed plug wires was causing such a huge misfire or the car was so out of timing that it was just misfiring really bad. I do happen to know these old cars put out way more than 72HP to the wheels maybe not a huge amount probably more like 188-205HP to the wheels when they were running healthy.
Ive seen them go for less than automatics theres a nice one for sale where i live for three grand has a 5 speed with a rocket 350 (oldsmobile engine) and t-tops that amazingly dont leak
I have a 85 TA with L-69 305 HO, 5spd & posi 3-45 gear Borg Warner rearend with 4wheel disk brakes. I wouldn't sell it cheap. Probably won't sell it at all actually.
it takes a while to find a buyer for a nice thirdgen at a not cheap price. Most people who like them already have one, and it's worth maybe $300 on a good day.

Rust dipping is a secret way to do a weight reduction. It loses weight as the wind blows the rust chips off going down the track.

Without the fans, those ducts would probably make more power on their own, at speed, just down to the ram-air effect.

If that thing was going 300 Mph, you could be right. Otherwise not. There is nearly no ram air effect at lower speeds.

lol how many cil's was this running on? Kinda sounded like 5 or 6 or maybe crossed plug wires was causing such a huge misfire or the car was so out of timing that it was just misfiring really bad. I do happen to know these old cars put out way more than 72HP to the wheels maybe not a huge amount probably more like 188-205HP to the wheels when they were running healthy.

Ive seen them go for less than automatics theres a nice one for sale where i live for three grand has a 5 speed with a rocket 350 (oldsmobile engine) and t-tops that amazingly dont leak
I have a 85 TA with L-69 305 HO, 5spd & posi 3-45 gear Borg Warner rearend with 4wheel disk brakes. I wouldn't sell it cheap. Probably won't sell it at all actually.
it takes a while to find a buyer for a nice thirdgen at a not cheap price. Most people who like them already have one, and it's worth maybe $300 on a good day.
