    I learned linux because it allowed me to use my computer like it should be used and not how a company thinks i should use it. I also learned linux because it uses resources more efficiently than mac and windows.

    I used Linux for 5 years. Tried different distros, like Fedora, openSuse, CentOS and of course Ubuntu. Also tried FreeBSD, TrueOS and these are challenging systems to use. Linux or GNU/Linux is being debated as of calling it an operating system. Linux is a kernel. Along with a kernel, you will install softwares like web browser, email client, and X11 and you have a system. People calls Linux an operating system because based on true-Linux power users states that people who are unfamiliar with GNU/Linux don't know what else to call it but an operating system. So Linux is a kernel.

    As I mentioned on one of your other videos, the problem with Linux is too much choice, it's overwhelming - secondly finding real help when you don't speak linux is difficult - most linux users will say, read the wiki, or, google it - not very helpful when you don't understand the language and my third point would be compatibility - it's now 2017 and there are still serious compatibility issues when it comes to using linux - as an example I would say Nvidia Drivers. My final point is that installing Linux in a VM is nothing like installing on real hardware - which is why most Linux reviewers install on VM's, they make it look so easy but it bears no resemblance to installing on true hardware

      Yep, there is also no support from the company itself as they don't get paid for it. Still, for a computer lover, you learn a lot about under the hood by using a Linux. I was able to fix small stuff in my WINDOWS and MAC after learning Linux.

  • @Jonathan-xe4ec

    3:48 Isn't that point equally valid for windows as well? I mean, I use windows "every single day" and the more I learn about Windows, the more I become good at solving problems in it when it comes to permission issues etc. What's the point though?
    Dude, seriously. The reasons you mentioned are more crappy than the reasons present on blogs that you are calling "crappy".
    And no long term windows user wants to switch to Linux out of curiosity. I have been a developer for a very significant portion of my life and I have always been a windows user until my company forced Linux on me.

    why linux does not require antivirus??

    • @markcainathame
      @markcainathame 7 років тому +23

      What Chris said is one of the reasons but the main reason is because when a vunrability is found in Linux, the community is working together to solve it. Once the solution in the form of a patch has been implemented the vunrability can not be exploited. In Linux the users can see from the source code of the operating system and from the patches that the vunrability has been fixed where as with the likes of Windows and Mac OS you have to trust that Apple and Microsoft have solved the problem and patched the vunrability.
      With proprietary software e.g. Mac OS and Windows (closed source) because you can't see the source code, you can't tell whether the operating system is patched unless you try out the vunrability on your computer. Oftern Apple and Microsoft either patch the vunrability a lot latter than when it is found or not at all so antivirus businesses are relied upon to make sure that the vunrabilities aren't being exploited.
      It is like imagining that Mac OS and Windows are like Swiss cheese with someone checking to make sure that all of the known holes aren't being exploited (although antivirus software isn't guaranteed to protect every vunrability, only known vunrabilities to that antivirus's database of known threats). Where as Linux doesn't have the Swiss cheese effect because every vunrability that is found is patched and can be verified that it is patched, so there is no need to run any antivirus because you already know that that vunrability is patched.
      Sorry for the length of this but I hoped this helped you understand why Linux does not need an antivirus.

    • @markcainathame
      @markcainathame 7 років тому +1

      Also most viruses are written on the Windows Operating System for the
      Windows Operating System. When I said about Chris's reason being one

    Dnt you think, developers and IT engineers have patented linux for their own? People who use windows are not necessarily developers, thts how computers are meant to be used. This is only why linux are not used by people in general!
    But i think, linux was also for poor people to learn computer as well. Thts great thing abt linux. Computer and linux hv greater perspective than only hacking and software developing. These things actually nullifies the dea of building computer!!
