Another great video! Enjoyable! Have not seen many of these locations for years. So many changes!
    1:35 Former depot.
    4:07 Nolan Street.
    4:40 Hays Street Bridge.
4:45 Note power poles for former electric railway (Texas Transportation Company). Was owned by Pearl Brewing Company until 2001.
5:11 Austin Street, site of first depot in San Antonio, at or near the grassy area to the right.
5:43 Site of Amtrak derailment about 1972. Amtrak was westbound on the west main in the curve and an eastbound freight on the adjacent track had a "dynamiter" and an empty rail car jumped the track in front of the westbound Amtrak. The "covered wagons" leading Amtrak hit the rail car and then left the rails going straight across Austin Street. If there were any injuries, they were minor.
6:12 Former SP Diesel Shop to the left. Now run by a private contractor.
6:39 Gravel pile on left is approximate site of former interlocking Tower 121.
6:47 Switches over to east main.
    6:53 Pine Street.
7:03 Area to right of tracks is the location of the former west end fuel station.
8:12 Grassy area to right is the location of the former East Yard Office (a long wooden structure).
    8:18 New Braunfels Avenue bridge.
    8:23 Communications building.
    9:44 Walters Street bridge.
10:07 This area is the location of the former east end fuel station.
10:36 Bridge over the former MKT (Katy) Railroad (now UP). Amtrak No. 22 leaves San Antonio on that track.
11:06 Salado Junction. Former branch to Cuero, Texas. Now only serves local industries.
    14:59 I-35/Loop 410 connector bridge.
    16:19 Loop 410 bridge.
    16:34 Kirby Yard.
20:32 Kirby Yard east end fuel station.
21:29 The long-gone Roadmaster's House was near the east end of Kirby. There was only the main track and the siding in those days.
28:32 Loop 1604 at Randolph Field siding, Universal City, Texas.
    29:33 Schertz, Texas.
    32:06 Cibolo, Texas.
    36:18 Marion, Texas.
    41:00 Blumberg Spur.
    41:35 Guadalupe River.
41:57 Nolte Spur. Across the highway and to the right of the spur track there was once a feed mill owned by an Aunt and Uncle of mine!
    42:49 Nolte siding.
    46:11 Former Seguin Freight Station.
46:18 Foundation slab, site of Seguin Passenger Station.
    55:48 Kingsbury, Texas.
1:03:33 Luling siding. Going west from here, toward Kingsbury (approximately 10 miles) there is an ascending grade. While not necessarily steep, it is steady. Southern Pacific had a penchant to supply long westbound drags minimal horsepower. This caused many a westbound drag to take a good amount of time to reach the "summit" at Kingsbury. I am not familiar with how the Union Pacific currently handles "Kingsbury Hill".
1:05:31 Site of former San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railway crossing. Known as Tower 40. This line was part of the SA&AP Shiner to Lockhart Branch. Tower 40 likely was gone by the 1930s.
1:06:11 Concrete slab on left covers area of former Luling Depot.
1:15:02 Harwood, Texas. Branch line to Gonzales, Texas originates here.
1:18:57 Remains of Sandy Fork siding to left of main track. This siding had been removed from service for many years.

A neat ride through beautiful country. It looked like you ran through a shower, or just after one, at about 1:15. It was kind of neat to see damp ties and roadlbed. Thanks for sharing.

Mr Bashay, did the "Sunset Limited" refuel when it stopped at the Union Pacific fueling pad? Several years ago, when I rode the "Sunset Limited" a fuel truck refueled the locomotives at the San Antonio station. Just curious. I presume El Paso, San Antonio, and Houston are all possible fuel locations, maybe even Del Rio. Thank you for sharing this great video. I always enjoy the ride, especially Louisiana, San Antonio to El Paso, and Yuma to Los Angeles. How was the timekeeping: on time, late, or extremely late?

Not sure what was going on. I know we stopped at the Union Pacific but didn't notice any fuel trucks. Of course I was standing at the back of the train doing this video. Not sure if they refueled the locomotives or not. We were stopped for like 30 minutes

@@davidbashay6286 I wish the car attendant had not interrupted you. You had to stop, so you were not able to film all of the intermodal waiting in the siding. I have not ridden since the UP lengthened sidings in west Texas and completed the double track segment(s) between California and El Paso. Again, great videos. I subscribed to your channel. I look forward to more Amtrak videos.

@ElCapitan1718 yeah.... that guy did get a little bothersome, but I guess he was just doing his job. But anyway, thanks for subscribing. I actually have a few amtrak videos. The best way to access them is just type in the UA-cam search.... david bashay amtrak. The amtrak videos will pop up first. I like the one crossing the huey p. Long bridge in New Orleans

@@davidbashay6286 I will definitely watch your Amtrak videos. I rode many of the "named" trains in the 1950's and 1960's. I was fortunate to experience train travel in the 1950's, when passenger trains were well patronized and offered excellent service. I also witnessed the decimation of the "named" trains in the late 1960's as railroads accelerated the discontinuance of passenger service. I have ridden Amtrak several times. I consider it a transportation mode, but it will never rise to the level of excellence of Santa Fe, Union Pacific, Burlington, Illinois Central, Southern, or Seaboard Air Line.

Trains 1& 2 Sunset Limited are fuel in both direction in Santa Teresa ( El Paso) and Kirby (San Antonio)
