Nice train ride looking out from the rear. Are they going to replace those wooden tracks with cement tracks, and when will that happen? They look quite old. I also noticed they're empty streches on the right where tracks used to be (?). That's valuable track space.
It used to be all double-tracked to Springfield but Amtrak tore it out in the 1980s to save maintenance costs. It is slowly being rebuilt in spots, with the eventual goal to restore it all the way. Amtrak needs to replace the CT River bridge first and that's a few years down the road. Soon Amtrak/CTDOT will be adding double track up to Windsor Locks and as a passing track near where the Enfield station will be built, at 12:18. The canal wall in Windsor Locks needs to be strengthened first and route 159 moved slightly to the west to accommodate the rebuilt track.
I have a technical question since I'm not a railroader. What makes the wheel RPM sound variation at @25:15-25:20? I have ridden a number of Amtrak trains across America and have enjoyed standing at the back. I have even heard the same sound from Superliners. It's like the wheels are suddenly speeding up and then slowing back down. I know they aren't powered trucks. Maybe a stupid question but just wondering for the past 20 years why I often hear that sound. Thanks
You hear that sound after rails have been “grinded” and reprofiled using a rail grinder. Wheels rolling over those sections will make interesting sounds. Over years, the sound goes away. They did this all over the NYC subway in 2015. It was so annoying to hear in tunnels.
That is the new Windsor Locks station, being moved from south of town. Will include a shuttle bus connection to Bradley Airport. Enfield will be built at 12:18 in the Thompsonville section of town.

Just viewed a video on the powered Metro liner cars, always wondered what happened to them, now I know!
Lovely video with beautiful rural areas! Thanks!
I still remember the first time I saw a Metroliner car back in 2005. I was like, "What is that? I didn't know Amtrak had control cars!"
Lucky you got a smooth ride. I was stuck earlier today on 6401 CTRail from Hartford to New Haven because of the ATV crash.
I always wondered how a trainride from Springfield to CT would look like thanks for letting me see without actually taking the trip thanks👍.

The bridge at the 1 hour mark was part of the Meriden, Waterbury, and Connecticut River Railroad. It's now abandoned.
Here’s a camera location. Windsor, CT right by the railroad crossing.

station under construction north of Windsor Locks is ENFIELD.....(based on website CT rail)
Windsor Locks. Enfield isn’t even out for bid yet.
18:21 what are they building? A new station?
i believe the new windsor lock station
ENFIELD....do not yet know when it will open...BUT it is ahead of schedule(original plan said construction would start in 2025)
That is the new Windsor Locks station, being moved from south of town. Will include a shuttle bus connection to Bradley Airport. Enfield will be built at 12:18 in the Thompsonville section of town.
Still lots of single track on the north part of the line.
Good ❤ اللهم صل على محمد وال محمد ❤

how i like seeing this route aside regular windows
Who owns this track?
Amtrak for the majority until the end just before State Street Station. Then it's the MTA.
@@TrainGal247 Thanks. Do you know if they are planning to electrify it?
@@jimcolleran1804 Not in the immediate future as far as I know. The line still isn't completely doubletracked and that's more of a priority.
@@TrainGal247 Thanks
@@TrainGal247 Ct DoT, not MTA. MTA is a New York State organization. CT contracts with it to run New Haven Line trains on CT DoT owned tracks.
I'd take amtrak if the staff weren't so surely.
