It is so great that the two 8230's are getting stored inside this winter out of the snow and rain and out of the sun in the summer. I almost cried seeing them set out last winter seeing them set out . You said you was going to solve that problem and you did, a true man of your word. I just can't stand to see my equipment set out even overnight but like you said it all takes time.

He passed away in 2011 and I would give anything to have him around now just to talk to me and watch me farm his land. I could have sold this land but it didn't seem right to me to sell something he worked for all his life. He left outstanding equipment behind too. I can almost hear people now saying behind my back that I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth but to be honest I would give that silver spoon back just to have him back. I know your sons already knows they are lucky to have you around. Love your videos. I farm row crops here in Indiana. Your harvest is finished but I still have another month to go. My goal is to always be finished the first week of November so I can get everything cleaned up and put away for the winter.
Older diesels were not as critical as newer engines, but, too keep the diesel fuel from freezing in the lines of my older VW in northern Canada at -40 and colder I would run as much as 15 to 20 % unleaded. I suspect cleaning out the last few molecules of gas from the system wouldn't be necessary.

We ran an ole Minneapolis Moline Tractor for several years on the farm. It was our big workhorse at the time. Ran on propane, which was a pain in the butt. It was a great tractor!
That's how we've always loaded trucks. First we would use an auger to get pretty much most of the bin empty, then we pulled the auger out and pulled the vac up to clean out the rest of our concrete floor bins.
My uncle Abe could not buy a tractor during ww2 so he ordered it a piece at a time------ then put it together in his small 16x24 garage ----- part of a transmission,a wheel at a time- rubber was hard to get ---- It was a minny U--- just like that----He drove it till he passed away in the 90's------ he loved that home build
@@jasonswift7098 completely wrong buddy. Adding ATF is widely used for added diesel lubrication. When starting old machines that have been sitting, we fill the diesel filters up with straight ATF to ensure the injector pump, injectors and cylinders are all lubed up.

Put a 289 or 302 in the Comet. Also put Moth balls in the comet to keep the mice out of it. That's what we put in our camper to keep the mice out of them and my bass boat.
I am a colector of molines. I noticed the front wheeles woboling, a shim pack on the left hand side of the engine. take some shimes out ,drive tractor shold help Adjust the springpack onthe right side of the front end The bearings [on the spindles [ long brass] I made new ones.
When you are following someone’s advice pay attention to the money flow. Many shops are just like doctors if something is billable they will stick it to you. It may need all of that done but change the fuel change the filters give it a good prime and crank it up I do believe you’ll be surprised in a good way.
You may be right, it's had a lot of hard use. Is it worth it to throw money at it? Was there ethanol in the gas? Lack of lube may have damage the cylinder walls or rings? Explosive gas cracked a piston or bent a rod? Who knows.
@@stevenpdxedu i question half of what you said, lubricating the cylinder is still done via oil from the sump, the diesel will lubricate the injectors and like others have said help prevent damage to the o ring seals, but i wouldnt be too worried about the cylinders. Seconsly diesels run at significantly higher compression and generally are stronger than their gas counterparts, the explosion from gasoline shouldnt be enough to cause issues with the block. Diesels are far more forgiving than gasoline when it comes to putting the wrong fuel in, usually all a diesel needs is draining, filters changed and then try to dilute any remaining gas in with the diesel and it should be fine.
Bob, I had an employee put diesel in the hydraulic one time in our skid steer. Had to pump it out, change filters, and replace the hydraulic. Had problems with the Hydraulic foaming. Changed every 50 hours eventually worked out of the system. Employee wanted to know why he did not get his next raise. Left for greener pastures I was not disappointed.
Those 04 duramax engines are tough. We use to have guys do that often. We use to just suck the tank out, change the fuel filter, put fresh diesel in the tank and fire it back up. It would run a little rough at first, but then smooth right on out. Never had any damage done to the fuel system or injectors.
The cam shaft problem possible came from using oil they sell today. It doesn't have enough zinc and phosphorus for a flat tappet cam. Be sure to use an additive to supplement the oil so it does.
If you have a diesel you need to get a favorite diesel pump. You always go to that pump unless you are on a trip. That cuts down on the chances of accidentally putting gas in. Make sure you also hook up the water in fuel sensor on the fuel filter. I know a guy who got diesel fuel with water in it from the gas station. That caused major problems as well, he ended up getting a new engine from that.
Small amount gas in diesel is not problem even now days, some time ago when there was not good winter diesels for trucks here north people mix bit gas in to diesel so it flows better in cold conditions. One friend accidentally put gas to diesel and we just drain all fuel out and empty fuel lines and add new diesel, it takes bit time to start it.
OMGoodness. I had a diesel MBZ 1976 which I gave to my daughter in 2000 (best first car so safe and slow) and told her TWO things, don't run out of fuel and NEVER put GAS in it.

At work our company runs Ram 2500 Cummins. Someone put Def into the fuel tank. The truck Stopped running. We hauled it to the shop, the guys pulled the fuel tank out of the truck cleaned it out, put Lucas fuel treatment, new Diesel and amazingly enough it runs great again!! Dodge wanted $32000, YES You read that right $32,000 to fix everything on it. Basically all new fuel system. Well the truck isn't worth even close to that amount. LOL We got lucky on it. They changed all the filters too. It fired up, was rough at first but cleared up and nothing was damaged. Smooth running again some how!
Happened to a 08 duramax I had once. Just dropped the tank completely cleaned it, put in new fuel also flushed the lines going to the filter and then just primed and started it. Ran for another 200000 miles till we sold it.
On that Long Horn 350, you have run into the proverbial SBC cam failure which is likely a lifter failure that took out the cam. The #1 trick with these is to make sure all the lifters and push rods are spinning right after start. If one is not shut it off and find out why ... Lots of crp-o-la lifters out there, even ones from CN without the right face hardness or spherical grind. In the interests of SBC longevity and modern oils, just put Howard's or Crower "cam saver" lifters in it. They will ensure extra oiling to each lobe. Better made and very helpful. The cam itself can be any reliable brand from the auto parts store, unless you want some "extra" (which I would do). To big a subject to cover here ...
Be sure to pull and disassemble your fuel pump if you see any scoring on the concentric pump cam, you'll have to replace your entire fuel system including injectors.
I've done a lot of those dirty Max's for gas contamination. I remove the fuel line at the engine, connect a pump and drain the tank. Add another 5 gallon after it's drained and than suck it dry again. That flushes the remaining gas out than fill with clean diesel with new filters. I'm sure it will run again but not going to gaurentee the high pressure pump is any good now
Don't worry about fancy cameras unless it's your hobby. Videos look and sound good. As for the comet, coming from a ford guy please just put a small block ford in it. Holley sniper efi is really easy to use. You get to keep an old school motor with modern efi ease of starting.
Bosch common rail pumps are cooled and lubricated by fuel so the gasoline having no lubricant properties could smoke that common rail pump and injectors. I dont know that I'd put ATF in that fuel system but an actual fuel additive wouldn't have any problems that i can think of.

On your 350 Chevy, most likely rounded the lobes on the cam because the older engines need high zinc in the oil for the lifters/cam to reduce the amount of friction that causes that damage. Just a guess, because I have seen it many times. It happened to my uncles freshly built Boss 302 he put together. Started it up after the complete rebuild, cam was shot because of lack of zinc in the oil he originally used. He changed over to a Valvoline race oil that has high zinc. Diesel oil, Shell or Chevron has good zinc.
Put sented dryer sheets in everything you want to keep mice out of. Works great. I put them in my hot rods . Never have mice and the barn smells great all winter
Once witnessed a young lady trying to fill her gas powered car with diesel fuel. Good thing for her the nozzle was to big to fit in. I stopped her from trying to shoot diesel in the tank just before she tried. She was thankful I stepped in and informed her the difference. And I’m sure her husband was too.
Gas engines won't get hurt by diesel it may even run better after you get the diesel drained as it is a solvent and lubricant gas engine can't ignite diesel so it will just sputter and stall diesels can see ignition of gasoline but gas lacks the lubrication characteristics and will wash all the lubrication off out of the injection pump and injectors and down the cylinder walls and pistons and we all know metal on metal doesn't go well and that's not even looking at what the gasoline detonating will do as the injectors are timed for diesel so the timing will be out due to a different burn rates and cetain ratings gas will ignite to soon and burn to aggressive before top dead center putting way to much stress on moving parts

We had a p.o.s. put gas in our ‘97 Pete several years ago but luckily the fuel gauge doesn’t work so we always dipped the tank to check the level an could smelled the gas. Flushed the tank good w diesel and had some good fire starting fuel for awhile. Wish I could have found out who did though an made em drink it all!

"Rotten Peas" If there's one thing I've learned recently due to a change at work (additional work, freight cars with grain meal... they leak) is that rotten grain smells down right bad.
This is going to sound bad but; I think I saw that 620 and semi sitting on the side of the interstate between Pocatello and American Falls because the trailer had axle or suspension problems. As for the gas in the diesel, its easy to do because not all stations use the same color pump handles and hoses for gas, diesel or kerosene. My dad accidentally topped of with kerosene in Kansas because the station used different colors on the pump handles. I have stopped a few people from putting diesel in their gasoline vehicles because of that very reason.

Mice control... use equal parts of powdered cement and cornmeal. That way you don't have to worry about any of your farm animals or Wildlife getting sick off the mouse poison. I read this in Farm Show magazine
I built an engine for a 1959 Wagner, an old Cummins was seized no parts avail so found a used C190 turbo and made it fit the Wagner, quite a challenge but enjoyed it. No one knows anything about these engines, lucky I still have a manual for the engine keep safe
Don't feel to bad Robert, my wife did the same with my 03 LB7 Duramax. She was so upset as she knew better and got caught by a pump with gas and diesel on the same pump. We got lucky and just had to clean the fuel system out, it's probably a miracle that it didn't lift the heads. We'll be praying for good results!

I've been waiting all year to see all the equipment finally given a spot indoors. I don't know why, but it's really satisfying. Maybe its the 'finally organized' thought of the farm. A place for everything and everything in its place.
My Dad did the same thing to my Duramax and it was an 04 or 05. We had the whole system purged and the truck ran just fine, but the truck would smoke really bad when you ran it a while and would come to a stop at a light or idle. They told me it was probably the injectors for sure and maybe the pump. They said the injectors were about a grand a piece so I traded in on a new one in 2011.
We had a farm hand put fertilizer in a fuel tank of a John Deere 4440 once. Note I said once. The guy we were working for was a very calm individual. Until that day.

Nick and Scott if I were you I would bait the heck out of the comet so not anymore damaged can be done. In fact I would bait both buildings and especially around the combines as mice think they have to chew on wires. I like to use antifreeze as long as there isn't any pets around.
That duramax u won’t hurt just drain the tank and change filter and it will run it’s not a dodge where You blow the pump have done it a couple times on the farm

You need to invest in a FASS filter for that truck. I have an ‘03 duramax and the FASS is great! It will protect you new fuel pump and injectors - but not from gas though.
Put large sonics in the garages to keep out the mice. They will not keep out mice with nests you'll have to trap them. They will go death to care for their young but it will keep new mice from coming in.
Gas in my diesel is my biggest fear.. sorry you have to deal with that bob, hopefully no major damage came of it. Good thing you have a legarms that can fix anything. 😁 we have an 06 pushing 500k on all original parts.. just some hoses, bushings, water pump and a radiator over the years. They are great trucks!
Does the Wagner have a PTO? If I remember right, all your working tractors with PTO's range from very light (Moline) to low end medium (John Deer.) Having a working heavy tractor with a PTO would open a few interesting possibilities.

When I do a gas to diesel swap, I pump out however much gas comes out with the pump and then fill it with diesel... no issues.

We put stickers on every vehicle or machine and fuel sources which tell what it need or is! Even the best can do a hick-up - including me before! : D
The colored fuel cap/duramax diesel tags/sound weren't enough? Can't fix stupid. Wonder who filled it?
If you get the duramax running, add couple qts of ATF to the fuel tank for a couple fill ups. Helps keep the o rings from drying out from the gas.
Duramax is Diesel powered not gas or petrol adding atf to diesel will destroy the engine you moron.

Quit adding garbage to diesel fuel! Atf is for automatic transmission not fuel additive.....

You can also instead of pulling the tank fill it with deisel and put a few quarts of oil in it

Put sented dryer sheets in everything you want to keep mice out of. Works great. I put them in my hot rods . Never have mice and the barn smells great all winter
Once witnessed a young lady trying to fill her gas powered car with diesel fuel. Good thing for her the nozzle was to big to fit in. I stopped her from trying to shoot diesel in the tank just before she tried. She was thankful I stepped in and informed her the difference. And I’m sure her husband was too.
Gas engines won't get hurt by diesel it may even run better after you get the diesel drained as it is a solvent and lubricant gas engine can't ignite diesel so it will just sputter and stall diesels can see ignition of gasoline but gas lacks the lubrication characteristics and will wash all the lubrication off out of the injection pump and injectors and down the cylinder walls and pistons and we all know metal on metal doesn't go well and that's not even looking at what the gasoline detonating will do as the injectors are timed for diesel so the timing will be out due to a different burn rates and cetain ratings gas will ignite to soon and burn to aggressive before top dead center putting way to much stress on moving parts

We had a p.o.s. put gas in our ‘97 Pete several years ago but luckily the fuel gauge doesn’t work so we always dipped the tank to check the level an could smelled the gas. Flushed the tank good w diesel and had some good fire starting fuel for awhile. Wish I could have found out who did though an made em drink it all!

If there's one thing I've learned recently due to a change at work (additional work, freight cars with grain meal... they leak) is that rotten grain smells down right bad.
Bob, good luck with your diesel pickup. Really handy rigs pulling and hauling even out there in the flat short grass prairie.
This is going to sound bad but; I think I saw that 620 and semi sitting on the side of the interstate between Pocatello and American Falls because the trailer had axle or suspension problems.
As for the gas in the diesel, its easy to do because not all stations use the same color pump handles and hoses for gas, diesel or kerosene. My dad accidentally topped of with kerosene in Kansas because the station used different colors on the pump handles. I have stopped a few people from putting diesel in their gasoline vehicles because of that very reason.

Mice control... use equal parts of powdered cement and cornmeal. That way you don't have to worry about any of your farm animals or Wildlife getting sick off the mouse poison. I read this in Farm Show magazine
I built an engine for a 1959 Wagner, an old Cummins was seized no parts avail so found a used C190 turbo and made it fit the Wagner, quite a challenge but enjoyed it. No one knows anything about these engines, lucky I still have a manual for the engine keep safe
Don't feel to bad Robert, my wife did the same with my 03 LB7 Duramax. She was so upset as she knew better and got caught by a pump with gas and diesel on the same pump. We got lucky and just had to clean the fuel system out, it's probably a miracle that it didn't lift the heads. We'll be praying for good results!

I've been waiting all year to see all the equipment finally given a spot indoors. I don't know why, but it's really satisfying. Maybe its the 'finally organized' thought of the farm. A place for everything and everything in its place.

get as muc gas out of it as possable and fll it up with diesil dump two quarts of two cycle oil in it and run done on same vehcale 4times

My Dad did the same thing to my Duramax and it was an 04 or 05. We had the whole system purged and the truck ran just fine, but the truck would smoke really bad when you ran it a while and would come to a stop at a light or idle. They told me it was probably the injectors for sure and maybe the pump. They said the injectors were about a grand a piece so I traded in on a new one in 2011.
so far it seems to be fine. Balance rates of injectors were within factory.

Good luck with the Duramax. I would pull the return line off at the cooler too keep contaminated fuel from returning too tank.
Did and flushed til ran red dyed fuel (so we could see when it was flushed)
We had a farm hand put fertilizer in a fuel tank of a John Deere 4440 once. Note I said once. The guy we were working for was a very calm individual. Until that day.
there wont be damage to the engine, you just need to throughly clean it
Those common rail pumps do not like gas. Chances are the high pressure pump is toast and contaminated the rest of the system.
@@ruralrider9961 my boss did it to his brand new truck the day he bought it. but gas in the diesel. all the did was drop the tank and flushed the system. nothing major happened but an expensive bill
Nick and Scott if I were you I would bait the heck out of the comet so not anymore damaged can be done. In fact I would bait both buildings and especially around the combines as mice think they have to chew on wires. I like to use antifreeze as long as there isn't any pets around.

You need to invest in a FASS filter for that truck. I have an ‘03 duramax and the FASS is great! It will protect you new fuel pump and injectors - but not from gas though.
i do have Cat 5 micron filter underneath the front box fender.
Shoveling old grain has to be more fun than going to the gym and doing useless work.
Put large sonics in the garages to keep out the mice. They will not keep out mice with nests you'll have to trap them. They will go death to care for their young but it will keep new mice from coming in.

Gas in my diesel is my biggest fear.. sorry you have to deal with that bob, hopefully no major damage came of it. Good thing you have a legarms that can fix anything. 😁 we have an 06 pushing 500k on all original parts.. just some hoses, bushings, water pump and a radiator over the years. They are great trucks!

Does the Wagner have a PTO? If I remember right, all your working tractors with PTO's range from very light (Moline) to low end medium (John Deer.) Having a working heavy tractor with a PTO would open a few interesting possibilities.

U shouldnt have any damage.. i owned a shop here in SA.. done mnay of those and never saw any damage to the engine or injection systems.. just a good clean and new filters and a good prime will do😀😀
