    As long as you went through all that trouble you might have as well changed the backlight to LED strips. It's a fairly easy mod to do for anyone with an electronics background and the difference is amazing. Thanks for saving at least one of these fine units from the scrap heap.

      We started out with two units. One had a good display screen and the other did not. We installed the good display from one unit into the other making two bad units into one good unit. You can sometimes find old units on ebay, a local used marine trading store, or a local yacht club where someone is replacing old equipment that can be used for parts.

    Very good repair illustration. I have a unit that has a slightly bent pin in one of the ports on the back of the unit. Do I dare risk bending it back into place if I'm careful enough? Is that pin soldered on the circuitry? I thought about heating it first... thank you.

      en4cer450 Anytime you bend a pin you take a risk of breaking it when it’s straightened out, no matter how you straighten it. I would not use heat, as that might damage other parts of the unit. Maybe carefully straighten it using a small pair of needle nosed pliers or surgical hemostats if you can get a pair. Good luck with it!

      I appreciate your reply.. I was able to slightly bend it back into place where it belongs. Thank you for your help.

      I have a mechanical pencil in my toolkit that works well at straightening bent pins. Without a lead in the pencil I slip the end over the bent pin and gently bend it back. If all else fails there are plenty of guys like me who can replace the bent pin or entire socket if required. Sadly most aren't sailing bums like me who will do it for a cold beer.

    Hello I have a Raymarine E 120 And I currently have on the very dark screen I see the data but not the brightness which is at 50%. What to do with this device thank you for your answer Francis de Marseille

      If you need help with the settings on the unit, I would suggest a call to Raymarine technical support. They should be able to help you make adjustments to it. If it is a failure of the screen or more often the backlighting then you will need to find parts to make the repairs, and parts are often removed from another unit that has had a failure, but still has the working parts that you need.

      There are no more new screens available that I know of. You might be able to find a used unit that has had a failure of something other than the screen and use it to repair your unit. Maybe ebay, or a local consignment shop would have a unit that can be used for parts. These displays often get removed and thrown away when they are replaced, so maybe checking with a local marina for anyone changing out the old units might also be a way to get one.

    Hi, do you know what is a serial number on that screen what u replace? I'm not asking about the unit only about the screen.

    • @marineelectronicsinstallat2617
      @marineelectronicsinstallat2617  4 роки тому

      I am not sure if there is a serial number on the screen or not. I have never checked for one. Not sure what difference the serial number would make as long as the screen is from the same model of unit it should work.

    where I can find the display?

      Sometimes ebay, a local marine re-sale shop, or a local yacht club where someone is replacing old equipment. These would be the best places to check.
