*Love this unit! Using upstairs in my sons bedroom **Fastly.Cool** and he’s finally able to be comfortable upstairs without me freezing downstairs. Works for more sqft than expected!*
Wasnt that Elmer Fudd's Line. Seems they have stolen it [Be sure to get them a wabbit gun when they are old enuff....and the Red Elmer Fudd hat!] Cute kids. You are a lucky man. WELL DONE!
I have to agree w the other comments, I really wanted to see the mini split but those cuties stole the show. Brings back memories when mine was little. Awesome setup and kids!
I didn't know about the mini split A/C system. Great option. Enough of that. Your daughters are priceless. Just keep this age in mind when they hit teens. "Get outta the dirt" love it! your girls are the best part of this video!
This is a great idea and a clean install. I hope this unit is still performing well. Love how the kids are helping out and are part of the video. I believe I will do the same on my Bread van to RV conversion. A/C is absolutely essential to an RV even in 80 degree temps. Good job, thanks for the great idea!
forget the trailer and the ac. Your little girls are priceless. Spend every moment you can with them because they will turn into mean teenagers in five minutes.
Ha Ha, I didn’t know how stupid I was till my daughter turned about 13. She had no problem informing me! Every moment is priceless. Just bank the money you saved On the AC, you’ll need if for College and the weddings.
Mini split A/C= $400. Little girl talking non stop threw the whole video = PRICELESS!!!! lol... Thanks for sharing this video.... Wonder how much she will talk when she grows up : )
It's more a case of them not having anything to do with you except when you are on the phone (or making a video like in this case). And when they get older, they'll have nothing to do with you because they think they know everything. And then you end up spending all your time ensuring that any boys that might come sniffing around are properly intimidated. You would think that after you pull a gun on one of them they would get a hint, but teenage boys are just *so* damn stupid... :(
Grumpy OldMan just tell them how ready you are to take a 10 year vacation with 3 meals and a cot. Then remind them that if I scream I love you while shooting you it's considered a crime of passion and I only get two years..
What a great idea. On thing. Stick a tennis ball (or something similar) between the top of the exterior unit and the trailer so the wind while towing doesn't stress those bottom mounting brackets
yep , I've had this in my head since these ductless systems came out. I was going to mount it on a cargo platform on the rear of the camper. the best part no bulky rooftop unit with a giant hole. good job
I just leaned about these mini splits. For years I searched for low powered ac and swamp coolers always popped up. I’m definitely about to live the van pulling a small trailer life now. This is all I was waiting on. I have to stay cool. Your girls are adorable btw
Big thumbs up on this demo . Always nice to see how others do things . There is available covering for lines , I've seen it used on side of houses . Maid of plastic and looked nice . Nice trailer , good luck with that . Thanks
NICE....and you completely 'fixed' my quandry about ac off the grid /solar issues. The roof air draws TOO much wattage for solar, and didn't want a window ac unit installed or have to run a generator constantly. Thanks for the view.
Great video. Not to get off subject, but seeing those two little ones next to the back of the truck, make sure you have a backup camera or beeper on that truck. A dad ran over his little guy while backing up. When help arrived it was too late. Next day I had one installed. We raised 3 girls and seeing/hearing them brought back a rush of memories. Please please stay safe. All the best.
I have a '97 Airstream Cutter Motorhome and the AC units are getting worn out. I clean 'em and oil the fan motor but have always thought about a split unit with the pump placed under the frame. Not only would this remove the excess crap from my roof and lower the center of gravity, these split units are cheaper than the Dometic dinosaurs, with their brittle, cheap, over-priced plastic and 1950's tech. Thnx for the vid, very informative.
Very nice Man. I do refrigeration and have used these on buildings. Going to incorporate one of these to be one of three systems on our new rig. Yeah, I miss my little ones as they are grown adults. I took them camping in a rig like this. Have fun!
I think I took mine a bit further. I have a 1976 Holiday Rambler Presidential that I bought at a estate sale. The trailer never was on the road and it was bought and stored in a warehouse and used occasionally as a studio for a architect in his window factory. Amazingly the snow storm was so bad that no one drove the 3 miles to go see it during the auction, I got it on the bottom bid of $1500.00. Its an amazing trailer. I am doing a super modern update on it and trying to keep it original. I bought a 8000 but through the wall 11.9 SER unit ( AMANA brand) then I took the 8000 btu unit apart and built my own split system with the compressor ( outdoor unit) going in the trailer belly spare tire pit. It now takes 7 amps to run ( 780 watts start up, 455 running), not 15.7 start then 10 running ( 1200 watts) like the roof air. So It was much easier than I thought it would be. A AC shop charged me $46 to recharge and fill it.
For what it's worth... I have installed these before. The line set that came with it should have had nitrogen in it and the indoor unit too. When connecting the lines an evacuation should have been performed drawing the system to less than 500 microns then open the valves. If you did not evac the system then there is potentially moisture in the system. This would cause it to freeze the indoor unit. Evidently your not having those issues. I'm glad you are not. There should be a filter/drier on the liquid line too. This collects any moisture in a desiccant material. I'm fairly certain you have a good amount of nitrogen floating around in the system, this just reduces the performance overcome by the unit being slightly oversized. Not trying to tear you down, just thought if you experience trouble you'll understand why. Great job on the rv, by the way. Keep up the good work!
you do not typically run a drier on a minisplit. the metering device is in the outdoor service valve. both lines act as part of the evaporator with expanding gas. a drier will disrupt the process because in ac mode there is not a true liquid line.
I searched Ebay for 9000 ductless, selected buy it now, 200 minimum and lowest to highest including shipping and found one for 349 including shipping. I put two 18k units in my house, it feels comfortable in winter and summer, almost life changing vs a pellet stove and hot house in the summer. I installed my own using videos, it was about 150 dollars in tools and was 2k instead of 12-16k. I spent the extra 35 dollars for a cover to hide the pipes which was well worth it on one unit, I would suggest a vinyl gutter downspout for the trailer solution. Very cute girls, they seem to have different personalities and get along well.
Thanks Robert. Do you have any vids on your solar setup? If so I would like to veiw them if I may. On this 3/4 ton unit I can use my Yamaha 2000 inverter generator to run it with power to spare....
Great idea ! Reading up on these units, will tell how good they are . Care must be taken, with the flare fittings, because of high pressure, but a few UA-cam videos, will make you an expert ! Good job, GREAT KIDS ! Thanks !

Nicely done! I'm thinking about one of these mini splits for our home. We have an area that just struggles to stay cool and I don't want to put a booster fan in the ducting.
It takes 120 volts from where ever. I didnt tie it into the camper. I just run a extra line so I can plug it in either house current (camping) or I can use my Yamaha 2000 generator which is the same as your Honda but better, lol. I have power left over when it is connected to the Gen. If I had bought the A/C unit with a inverter built in it would be better but that one cost more. Also I really didnt need it for my needs. Just read the start up amps on the A/C unit to see if your Honda can handle the load. But the running and start up load can be handled with a Honda 2000. I forgot the numbers but I did test it with the Kill A Watts and the numbers were fine. Also, I keep the Generator running while driving so the a/c unit keeps everything cool in the camper. Love my A/C and my Yamaha Gen!
Yes, you are right. It is not an inverter type. Wish I could get one at the same price but that isn't going to happen. Remember, these nits are installed on the walls with L angles so there is next to no room between the walls and a/c. I did a lot of research before I took the gamble. good idea, suggested to my mum and grandparents that they put one in the caravan, but mainly for heatpump usage (a nice new inverter one) I think they will consider it, as the carvan (R/V) is permanent and has no heating yet, and electric panel heating is not efficient, only up to 100%, heat pumps can be up to 300%, especially for us as in the UK the climate barely goes below 0c (32F)so heat pump defrost issues is not a problem really. Also the A/C can simply reverse back to being an A/C and cool the caravan during the summer where the sun has been on the van all the time heating it up.
I'm using 9000BTU Heat Pump ductless system I found on thermospace, com -- It's 110v and has heat pump so can also use for heating the trailer. I looked at bargaintory but wanted to have heat pump function (10 HSPF). Also included the wire needed for connecting indoor to outdoor unit. Compressor unit is Toshiba versus no name china brand on some of these off-brand units. System also has DC inverter which means variable output for heating and cooling and soft starts. Very nice. Hoping it holds up long-term to traveling on americas pot-holed roads. System was $690 delivered.
Very nice Robert. What brand is it? Are you worried about components standing up to road vibration and you might think about a mini skirt style mud flaps on the pickup to protect the condenser coil from road debris
Be berry berry quite awsome 👍 buy the way great idea with the AC system I'm converting a 14' box trailer into a mobile work shop and I'm in So. Nev. and this way I can still park under my awning
Hope you have a sturdy cover put on that outdoor unit that won't shred or blow away. You need something to keep your tow vehicle from throwing mud and road debris Etc into the condensing coil fins and other areas. It's crucial that all stays very clean. Especially since it's so close to the road.
Nice setup. I'm also a Floridian so I know all about having a good A/C unit. For camping, i'd have a system to capture the condensation water and run it thru a filter system to have for the fresh water tank. I've noticed that no one seems to capture their water, they just let it drip on the ground. If you can make an update video that would be great!
@@willy286condensation water is pure water, more pure than RO water. As long as pipes are copper the water would likely be cleaner than many municipalities. Not sure yet what I'm going to do, but I like the job you did. Not sure how I could get it to work in a PUP and not a TT though.
Chris Fritz There is a dog house a/c that would work but when I checked on the price I thought is was too high. Google dog house a/c. My a/c is a 3/4 ton and I think a 10 ft box might be just too small. They do make smaller one but I forgot where I saw them at. I will look and if I find it I will post it
shawnin99 On campers / RVs that are 30+ foot then you'd have to use the 18-24k BTU mini-ductless heal pump units (which requires 220v in most cases so campers running 30amp are EXCLUDED).

Hehe you sound like Hank Hill. I was laughing when you said propane.
We are all in kuwait using this ac in our Rv instead of the original ac which comes with Rv because its much cooler and saving power...

Robert, let me know what you came up with on the solar panels. I would like to do the same. The kids love to go camping.
