Actually Behringer may be cheap but is all metal case, an have Midaspreamps and up to 192khz. It s performance is to be compared with the most expensive interfaces, used it for years, with awesome results 😃👍 love cheers
This is true! I very much respect Behringer since making this. Their synths, interfaces, pedals even. Really impressive. I think I had a bad image of them from very early on but they seem to be crushing it now!
@@SleepingOrchard Yes man,..I been useing Behringer Eq´s and compressors since 1995, at that time there was issues and noise floors, but then they went from descrete so surfacemount, and the gear got improved a lot, I use a lot of Behringer gear cos the few times there was a warranty issue i called the german office and they imidetley sent me a new unit,...and nowdays the quality is superb, no issues 😄one preamp and one mixingdesk fault in 25 yrs is a good grade. Thanks bro´ and happy 2023💚
Hey can you help me please. I purchased a tascam 688 and I replaced the belt and motor. But when I played the cassette it plays slow. What should I (add,do,??) did I not add something to it or??? Please help me. I really want this machine to work. It cost me 950 from somone who didn’t help alert of this and won’t answer. Thank you 🙏
Hey! Mine developed the same problem. I think it was the motor itself though, so I’m not sure what the problem with yours could be? Was it definitely the correct motor in yours? I remember the guy who fixed mine had to search really hard for the right motor and ended up getting it from Japan!
Is each track still stereo? I have one of these and I'm on a budget, will the pan right and pan left sound ok? Is it still an 8 track in stereo or only a 4 track?
Each track is mono, so you could only record 4 instruments in stereo with the left/right panning. Or of course 8 mono instruments (or any blend like 2 stereo instruments and 4 mono instruments). I hope that helps, happy to answer any more questions 😊
Thanks for the video! Btw, when you dump the 8 tracks into your daw do the tracks go through the 688 mixer? When I did this my tracks bypassed my mix in the 688… I’ve only done this once, so I don’t remember if my set up in the display was the same as “scene #14” that you had
Hey! This method goes through the mixer, so all your EQing will be heard in the final bounce. Make sure that the RCA cables go from the ‘group out’ section (1:07), not the ‘tape out’ section. Going from the ‘tape out’ connections will bypass the EQ. I hope that helps fix the problem, good luck!
I am using a Zoom R24 as Digital Interface. The recording levels on the Tascam 688 are ok. Still, the input level signal in the Zoom 24R is very low, so also in my DAW (Ableton or Reaper) is the incoming signal very low. What's the problem I haven't seen? Some settings on the Tascam 688 I guess?
Hey man! Quick question if I may: looking to hook up my modular and some drummachine friends to the 688. All stereo ouputs. How many can I hook up simultaneously? Am I right to assume 5 (5×2)? Thank youuuu!
Hey! I believe you can hook up 10 L/R tracks but can only record to 8 on the tape. Track 9 and 10 need to find a buddy to share with. I use an external mixer to route things so i’m not 100% on that, but pretty sure.
If I'm recording one track at a time, I'll use 01, 02, 03 etc, depending on the channel I'm recording onto. I'll use 11 if I'm recording 2 tracks at once and I made a custom patch on patch 19 that lets me record all 8 at once if needed. It's possible to set it so input one goes to track one, two to two, and so on. It's quite a versatile machine!
I’m not entirely sure how patch bays work, but you could have 8 input channels from the patch bay going directly to the inputs on the Tascam and then 8 channels returning to the patch bay from the Tascam outputs. I used to do that with an external, 16-channel mixer. I’m not sure this answer is helpful, sorry!
Hey! Yes, for the bounce I'm monitoring through the Behringer headphone output. The headphone output on the Tascam only monitors outputs 1 & 2, so you can't hear everything if you're sending each track to outputs 1-8.
Yes, you usually arm the tracks to record from a group instead of the input, but obviously you can only bounce 6 tracks to 2 tracks (a nice limitation of tape that was overcome with the minidisc 8 tracks! they could bounce all 8 tracks to 2 tracks stereo and no loss of quality, but you only got one shot at it!)
Thank you
No problem! 😃

Couldn't you just do the same thing using the tape outs and not have to assign anything?
I think that doing it that way bypasses the EQ section. This way allows you to EQ all the tracks and then bounce all 8 tracks to a DAW.

what scene did you use when you recorded the tracks on to the Tascam?

@@SleepingOrchard awesome, thanks. Yeah I have been trying to learn it, but it's taking some time
If i hook up a patchbay in between. so the outputs should go to A (outputs ) on patchbay ?

do you monitor from the Behringer thingy during bouncing or monitor from Tascam?Thank you for sharing this,i really need it

What model is the Behringer you use
Hey, I use the Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820 USB. I’ve not had any problems so far 🤷♂️ 😃

@@SleepingOrchard quick question shouldn’t there about 8 inputs?
Can you bounce tracks on the 688 itself? You can do it with the portaone.
Agh....I see now. I thought it was through the beringher.
Yeah you can but I really can’t remember how to. I think it’s time to dust off the ol’ manual lol.

can you bounce too one track? could you make a video
Hey, do you want to know how to bounce the whole recording to one track in a computer? Or to another single track on the tape machine?
