There has always been a bunch of negative, gripping people living in and around Rumford/Mexico, and same for some that have moved away. The reality is, it's an amazing place to grow up in, with plenty of opportunities for people, if you work for them. BMOM, Swift River, recreation, high school, paper mill, local businesses, lots of amazing homes and places, RPL, churches, mountains, lakes, ponds, list goes on. So, thx for the good showing of some good people, that make it a good place to live and grow. My folks retired in Rumford. I visit as much as possible. Thx again.
It was nice to be able to stay at the new Best Western. On previous visits we were limited to some older motels that were old and run-down when I was young. Hotel Rumford has some great food and I've been going there for as long as I can remember. Dick's for breakfast is a must. Black Mountain is where I learned to ski. It's great to see the improvements. Taking our family on a canoe/kayak trip down the Androscoggin in Bethel was priceless.
Great place to grow up back in the 50's and early 60's. Yes, the mill was not a place to live near. The smell was awful and the pollution caused cancer that we were unaware of at the time. People were great, lots of things to do year round. Miss the old town and the area.
Rumford is a very sad town full of drugs lack of help people dying this town could have potential but sadly there isn't a lot of help here homeless people and hardly no shelters for all people not just families also no sober homes and group homes for teens woman and men only one really I feel bad for the people lack of of help.

I grew up with Jim Theriault. Really good athlete, tough guy. His wife is my class, '68.
