One of the most lauded performers of her generation, Glenda Jackson is known both for her dazzling work on stage and screen and, in later years, her commanding career as an outspoken member of the UK Parliament’s left wing (referring to herself as an “antisocial socialist”). Bringing an air of steely vulnerability to her intense portrayals of complex women, she has collaborated with provocative filmmakers like John Schlesinger (in the groundbreaking queer relationship drama SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY) and Ken Russell (in the deliriously unhinged Tchaikovsky antibiopic THE MUSIC LOVERS) but has proven herself equally at home in lighthearted romps like the breezy spy comedy HOPSCOTCH opposite Walter Matthau. - Фільми й анімація
Superb actress and human being.
RIP Glenda Jackson ❤
I adored her. Beautiful, supremely talented and a truly fine MP. The world is a poorer place for her passing.
Seeing the brillance of Glenda Jackson, sends tears to my eyes. I am so sorry that I forgot about her... However, as an avid film fan, she's one of my favorite actresses.
She was fabulous as Queen Elizabeth I in 'Elizabeth R' mini-series (1971).
Aww bless her… ❤ r.i.p 😢
Rest in Peace

Sunday Bloody Sunday!
What a great film?!
Glenda Jackson, such a great actress!
I just saw Sunday Bloody Sunday yesterday, thats crazy
RIP, great actress
RIP goddess
RiP Glenda. A great actress and a very true champion of the poor and working classes.
Goodness, GJ is without a doubt my very favorite actress. For Women in Love, Marat/Sade and The Music Lovers alone. She is both wildly theatrical and brutally naturalistic. Her performances connect with joy, rage, madness and tragedy. I just watched, possibly for the third or fourth time in my life, her performance in Ken Russell’s great film The Music Lovers. This performance, and film, always leave me shaken to the core. I only wish there were a version of this film available in higher resolution than standard definition. It deserves HD at the very least!
I have a flawless copy in widescreen.
Wo, where did you get it?!
R.I.P. Glenda Jackson.
R.I.P Glenda!
My last Christmas present from my Mum before she died was a ticket to see Glenda in King Lear. I sat in the middle of the front row and it has so far been the highlight of my life. Ive been a fan since I saw her as Elizabeth when I was 4 years old. She was brilliant. There are very few working class actresses these days it is all posh actresses in rubbish like Downton Abbey and The Crown. This is because of the collapse of the Grant system which meant that a girl who worked at Boots could get a Grant to go and study at RADA. We have gone backwards. Its like the 60s never happened. It is unlikely that we will ever see the like of Glenda Jackson, Albert Finney, Tom Courtney ever again because those talented youngsters cannot afford to go into Higher Education.
Best actress. Music Lovers, Women in Love,
Salome’s Last Dance.
Steals the movie in one wicked scene in The Boy Friend. Marat Sade, Sunday Bloody Sunday,
Stevie, Elizabeth R, The
Rainbow, Arnold Bax,
Morecombe & Wise.
The Great Escaper.
The stage Lear and Three Tall Women. Just brilliant. The most
fun person ever. Devoted
to her constituency and
the burdened. Super-intelligent. Searingly honest. I always felt I
was the luckiest person
ever to know her. She
was like the teenage sister you cut class with to steal a smoke on the fire escape. She always
saw the truth of a situation. That’s what
made her such an enlivening actress and
such blisteringly good
company. She was kind.
Who’s here after her passing
The Music Lovers! Amazing film!
Could not agree more!! Ken Russell at his very best!!!
@@Fredo_Viola Have you seen Savage Messiah by Russell? As much as I love Music Lovers, I'd have to say Messiah is my favorite of his.
I do remember seeing that one during my years obsessed with Ken Russell. Yes, it’s another really great one. About the sculptor, right?
@@Fredo_Viola Yes! A bunch of unknowns in it. Good lord, very impressive stuff. Ken Russell deserves to be a real respected part of film history, not just a footnote. Hope Criterion can get more of his work out there for people to see.
Again, I totally agree. There really is nothing like him, like him or hate him. He was a visionary, a brilliant and quite original storyteller. The way he blocked a scene was always so surprising. Even the Lair of the White Worm had incredible moments of such sophistication visually. Plus… he was sooooo funny!!!
Rip Glenda 🇬🇧💕

Is there going to be a Criterion collection of her films?
