Glenda Jackson is an absolute genius: the greatest Elizabeth I ever performed, and the closest thing this country ever had to a Bette Davis.

Messylin Bette Davis was the closest thing the US had to Glenda
Jackson, with Kate Hepburn right along side Ms Davis. Wouldn't it have been grand to see the three of them working together!?!

Bette Davis was also brilliant as Elizabeth R. Saw Glenda Jackson and Vanessa Redgrave in Elizabeth R - spectacular. Wish PBS would replay it.

I will never forget that speech in the House following the witch's death. Lovely woman.

ParanoidBishop And I will never forget that speech either but anyone like her (and you) who speak in such grotesque and cruel terms of ANOTHER HUMAN BEING is to my mind deeply flawed and sick. The fact that I think Mrs Thatcher was an important politician who had to make some difficult decisions to turn around a country that was in decline or that Glenda Jackson was one of our greatest actresses is beside the point. I hope that the actress and you will one day reflect on our own spirituality in judging others.

She never said anything cruel. Merely pointed out the devastation Thatcher's ideologically driven policies wreaked on large sections of the community. But no point going over that again, been done to death.

The Empress of Theatre returns! Long live the Empress! How I wish and hope and dream I could see Ms Jackson on stage. The best pairing of two superb actresses Glanda Jackson and Vanessa Redgrave in Mary Queen of Scots.

She's not flawed or sick. She's just brutally honest. And bless her for it.

She is one of the best EVER! Along with Vanessa Redgrave, Deborah Kerr, Maggie Smith, Peggy Ashcroft, Judi Dench, Emma Thompson, to name a few, they may be the finest of British actresses, or ANY actresses.
