I used a piece of paper towel in the socket to keep it from falling out and used an extension to start the top bolt the piece of paper worked great was able to guide it in blind

Thanks for video. My friend replaced starter and I also put in new battery. All I get is clicking noise. Is it possible he hooked up the grounds to starter wrong?

Remove the starter and bench test it with jumper cables a d the car battery to make sure it's not defective.

When I turned the key lastnight, the starter motor briefly engaged, then stopped, accompanied by significant puffs of white smoke seeping out from under the hood. Battery is good, but no further life when attempting to start the car. Sudden solenoid failure? Starter failure?
