"You cannot manage addiction with moderation." Exactly! This is what I have been trying to explain to my family who keep saying "just eat in moderation." They just don't understand that it is an addiction for me. And your videos are really the first place where I have heard anyone talk about it this way. Thank you!

      It’s
I,e telling an alcoholic to drink socially only or a cocaine addict to use only a holiday parties. U put bread I. Front of me I have no control. All sense goes out the windows. If I feel sick carb is my fist thought to feel better. Period.

Carb addiction may be the moat difficult addiction to overcome. Because society, advertising, family members & even your own doctor are actively trying to push you off the wagon. It's a very solitary effort.

“Every addict is looking for permission to do their drug of choice”. I love you. Dr Mindy talks about it from a perspective of supporting hormones. It does worry me sometimes. However, the reality is that when I try to do something like eat certain carbs that may support hormones I end up over eating so bad and wreck hormones. I just can’t moderate.

I am so grateful that I found your channel and subscribed. You have a unique way of explaining, and you speak very clearly (I mean for me as a non-native some accents are a bit hard to understand). I also appreciate that you speak very straight-forward and don't beat around the bush (you called that "agreesive", I call it "honest") against advice like "everything in moderation. Thank you so much.

As someone who never thought dairy was a problem for me, I found when I went pure carnivore, no diary, I discovered dairy was very bad for my digestive system. It took longer than 30 days before I began to really notice the healing of my body.

Hi my name is Lisa and I'm an addict. Thank you for telling me this!!! I am so happy to have finally found your channel. I've been following keto for about 6 months and I don't really find it working for me. You have explained why its not working so CLEARLY. Its totally because I am addicted to carbs and will be for the rest of my life. I can not do moderation. As soon as I eat any bite of sugar it immediately triggers more and more sugar, exactly like an alcoholic, and I have absolutely no control over the sugar, sugar has total control over my brain after consuming it. Wow, just Wow.

Dr Cywes, I would like to say thank you for changing my life. When I started this life style change in December I weighed 300lbs. I never thought of carbs as a drug and me as an addict. You have changed that. Now as of today I am down to my lowest weight since i can remember. 250lbs and feeling great. I do have a question. I have been doing IF for about a month with carnivore. The last week has been tough because I am getting all these cravings and hunger. Am I not eating enough or is it my carb monster wanting to eat a pizza?

I had gastric bypass 12 years ago along with gallbladder removal. I regained all of my weight. I started the keto diet back in March and lost 30 pounds but have since fallen off the wagon and gained 15 back. I am Carb Addict!!! Once I started I just couldn't stop myself. I found you by watching Dr. Ken Berry's videos. I'm really considering doing carnivore...I need to do something for myself and my whole family.
I watch your videos (and Dr. Berry's) and I wish I could get my dad to see you guys. He needs more help than I do. He won't listen to me because his dietician/nutritionist tells him eating 4 fried eggs with 4 pieces of toast for breakfast AND lunch EVERY DAY is perfectly fine for him. My dad is type 2 diabetic, s/p MI with a CABG (at age 49), high cholesterol, hypertension, and some issues with his kidneys and gets kidney stones. Also has sleep apnea requiring CPAP and was recently diagnosed with COPD.
My 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with fatty liver...so I need to make changes in my life so I can make changes for my children ( all 5 of them).
Thank you for all your very informative videos :-)

Yes! It’s a relapse that I don’t come back from without at least a 20lb regain usually more and months till I get the control back! Over and over my whole life! Moderation is torcher! And yes we all look for permission to do our drug of choice! Keto gave that to me. I’m now mostly carnivore but still have a little sweetener, working hard to break it, baby steps.

I've gone for my basic blood work my LDL is very high 199 my triglycerides are 60 with a hdl of 88. I’m am a carb addict. I’m so happy to find you. I must abstain. My fiancé’s side gig is gourmet candy making during the holidays. I did not do well this past holiday season, but have been back on track since Feb 10. It’s emotionally draining to be around it from November to February. I’m already mentally preparing for Nov 2020. I’m lucky in that I love liver, heart, etc. I love meat. I think I can do carnivore and get through the next holiday season.

I’ve been employed at a drug/ alcohol rehab center for 7 years as of this year.
I heard a person in recovery state that everyone struggling with the disease of addiction is trying to be the exception to the rule that they can manage their disease without the need to completely abstain.
I can’t do most things in moderation let alone carbohydrates. I’m an addict and have to be completely abstinent because there is no grey area for me.

Perhaps it's confirmation bias, but this makes total sense and it's what I generally do when I'm eating to take care of myself. (Unfortunately there have been months when I haven't cared.) I never count calories or macros and am mystified by those who do. What kind of life is that? Please comment on my program, or take it as an example if you're wondering what other people do:
    2 mad: 8am & 11:45 (done eating by 12pm. 20/4 IF)
Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled w/ butter; 11 Almonds; 1 slice cheddar; 1/2 can mackerel or sardines; 4 berries.
Lunch: Large mixed garden salad w/ homemade vinegrette; small bowl of fatty beef; sprig of parsley
I have 1 black coffee in the predawn hours before meditation. Only water other than that.
I'm never hungry except just before my morning meal.
Exercise: 2.5 mile walk with weighted backpack every morn. Kettlebell when I feel like it 3 -4x/wk.
Thanks for your selfless sharing of information, Doc!

    I learned
diet = a conscious way of nutrition
Reducing diet = the wrong way
what you interprete into the word makes the difference.
The ketogenic 'diet' is nothing else than ketogenic lifestyle/nutrition/form of eating/.....

Coffee raises my fasting blood sugar. I am diabetic. I have gone on and off keto for about the last year and have gained back 15 lbs. Maria Emmerich says that coffee raises blood sugar and causes cravings. I have had lots of cravings just drinking 2 cups of coffee a day. I am now trying to eat keto, cut back to one cup of coffee and then a couple of cups of decaf. Finally I will have to give up the one cup. I will keep trying.

Caffeine ever so slightly raises BG. T1 diabetics use it for that purpose, but cravings are ALWAYS an emotional event not a physiological event esp if you are a T2. Don't sweat the coffee until you are perfectly at zero carbs. In other words enjoy ur coffee IMHO.

@@DrCywesCarbAddictionDoc Well, I am going to experiment with checking blood glucose levels as I cut down on coffee, then go decaf for a while. If I eat good keto, I don't get cravings, but a few cheats here and there and the cravings come back. I do believe there is some psychological factors, but mostly I think it is hormonal in my case because if I do not eat stuff like popcorn, or a sweet here and there, the cravings eventually go away. Coffee does affect my sleep and cortisol levels, so another good reason to cut back on it. I am 66 and I love my coffee, but I think it is affecting my blood sugar. Thank you for responding, I appreciate it.

I’ve been trying to eat 2 meals a day for a week I was doing 3 but I wanted to fast loner. Problem is my body still used to smaller meal so half away though my food it signals that I’m full. If I stop at that point no way I can’t fast without been really hungry with just few hours. I know the difference when my body craves for no reason I can easily ignore it and when I’m hungry because I didn’t get enough fuel.

I decided to trust my body and was very comfortable with one meal a day and a bit more than 1000 cal. It was heaven to me. Consequence : I lose my hair a looot and must supplement. But I don' t feel hungry because of that (sometimes nauseating) fat. As if it would numb the sense of hunger like an anesthetic, living me with the thought that it cannot be healthy but carbs can't either. Love your videos.

Dr Rob, I'm new to Keto. What type of test would you recommend I do in order to find out how I'm doing biologically?? My health is pretty good btw, and thankfully I haven't been to see a doctor in years. Thank you.

I appreciate you and your content so much! I really wish you had researched what the Keto UA-cam doctors say instead of what this woman SAYS they say because they do NOT say exactly what this woman expresses.

Have you thought of recommending a limit on oz of cheese per day due to cheese being addictive via the caso-morphones and the opiate receptors similar time what wheat does ?

Dear Dr. Cywers, I really enjoy your excellent videos and thank you. I wanted to view a video you did about fructose again and I believe it was with someone else and was in your series about diabetes. Now I can’t find it. Would you be so kind to add the link?

Great vid! BTW, I thought you'd like to know that the social media links above are broken....the actual linked URL is simply missing the exact final few letters that the truncated hot links are missing. Trying to find a like-minded local PCP, and will use Facebook message to see if you can recommend someone.

Thank you for the information. Very clear and simple explanation about triglycerides. How long should it take for triglycerides to decrease when carbs are removed from the diet. Insulin resistance = high triglycerides . There are people who continue to have high triglycerides while on a carnivore diet. I’d be interested in your thoughts on this.
