  • Wow! What a powerful start to our Bharcs season. In this conversation you can hear all the panel members share their own powerful stories of how they felt they needed to look beyond usual training . Big emphasis on 'felt', for their stories were how they were driven by not necessarily thinking differently, but feeling differently. There was almost an element of deel therapy for self here !
If anyone is still a bit unsure about why a mindset shift towards behaviour can be so helpful and powerful, you only need to hear the stories in this chat ! And, in doing so start to get an understanding of what the Bharcs way of looking at things is all about.
There was also a introduction to themes such as the role of anthropomorphism, parenting and importance of attachment.
Amazing start to the season !
Many in the group will know of the important contribution Sindhoor Pangal is making to the conversation around how we understand and support dogs. Through her Bharcs education academy, Sindhoor is helping revolutionise the narrative around who dogs are and what dogs need. Anyone who has had the joy of listening to Sindhoor speak, read her book Dog Knows, or who have subscribed to Bharcs courses, will have been inspired to make many of the mindset shifts to truly see dog behaviour in a new way.
For those who not fully aware of Bharcs and the work they are doing, this will be a real treat and an important event to learn so much from.
From this foundation of Bharcs we are also gifted other powerful voices that are creating their own influential platforms, and during this season we will also benefit from hearing from Surabhi Venkatesh, Sowjanya Vijayanagar, Anushree Thammanna and Eva Pirnat
Over the coming couple of months the group will have the opportunity to learn the true essence and philosophy of the Bharcs way, learn from presentations of case studies and be invited to listen in to round table conversations that will tackle head on the important topics that need re-evaluation.
This is going to be a truly mindset shifting season of talks and presentations, and I hope you can join us for a real adventure into seeing dogs, and ourselves, in a new way.
I want to thank Sindhoor and all the Bharcs family for being so generous to offer all this for us on the Dogcc platform. I want as many people as possible to feel the influence of their combined work, so do share this far and wide 😊
This really special season of talks and presentations start with two panel discussions with everyone - 18th and 19thMay - 2.30 UK time and will be live on the Dogcc UA-cam channel. Look out for more details, but get these dates in your diary.
There will more dates announced soon for the presentations, interviews and panel discussions on different topics.
For those in the UK, Sindhoor is over here presenting a 2 day workshop with my lovely friend Anna Richardson in November - not to be missed. Just a few places left - email bark@sunshinecanine.co.uk for more details

Aren’t we all train and being trained by other from the moment we are born to the moment we die?, I think some people don’t understand the subtle dance of reinforcers and punishers that create behaviors, at least that’s the way I see it.

I think it is important to recognise the difference between what is extrinsically 'taught' and what is intrinsically 'learnt', and the friction between the two that is often there. Individual need that is often expressed through behaviour, can be easily suppressed via the extrinsic manipulation of reinforcers and punishers simply to mould behaviour to fit the expectations of others, and we can all relate to that to some point or another. for dogs, this represents a lot of the existence with human expectation often attempting to over rule the dogs attempts to communicate need and indeed to represent self

I think we got to a point where we need to address definitions on what you call different things, I think is important to recognize that what is intrinsic is always shaped and reinforced by the outside environment, again I’d like to better understand but we also need to recognize that the reinforcement system whether is intrinsic or extrinsic is operation all the time. I think the greatest flaw we all have is to dismiss procedures without fully understanding them, thanks for your response, Gus.
