Thanks so much for your dedication to Linux! Here's my recommendations for visuals: I'd focus on framing your shot first. You're tucked into the corner and your entire face is at the bottom of the frame. Then I wouldn't worry about colour grading until we sort out your lighting! Your light on you is too cool which is making you look bit pale and washed out. If you can adjust manual settings in your camera, change the colour temp to 5600K and leave it there most of the time, that's about neutral white daylight and then you can change your lighting from there if needed. I'm only an amateur myself when it comes to video and lighting and whatnot, but happy to give a few tips if it helps!
I hope your journey eventually lands you on org-mode for both notes and documentation so that you can either A) show us how to sync and access the notes across all devices B) what to migrate to after having used the best plaintext format known to man
@@zedth2 I have said this in another comment somewhere, but Syncthing (together with orgzly) have lost me more data than anything I've ever used 😅Hopefulle he'll find a better way. Syncthing also *drained* my phone battery.
Yeah I just don't get what he's doing with memos that Obsidian can't. he didn't explain it properly in the video. I personally just use an Obsidian Syncthing combo with my phone PC and Laptop. since my phone is always on (just like everyone) I rarely get syncing issues. and that feature with the chronological order seems horrible to me imo if you ever want to migrate. just having a dedicated file where I write down random things for later is more than good enough for me personally. and just add either at the top / bottom of the file depending on how you like to scroll.
haha - for me it's the same :) one difference: I have that file on my desktop for click on directly and recently I try the same as an org-file for Emacs as an experiment, mainly for checkboxes
@MrOnion2001 I use hyprland, so it's way easier just for me to open it via terminal. I tried Emacs and honestly I didn't like it. I get it, but I don't like it. I like vim and NeoVim + tmux's simplicity.
Thanks for another informative video - great content. Little side note: I noticed that something is going on with your video: it seems to refocus every now and then. First time that I observed it was probably three or four videos back.
Might I suggest Drafts for your iOS scratchpad type of thing? It is not open source, but I believe the free version allows you to push drafts to obsidian later when you want to process them, no account needed as well, you can use it without iCloud sync.
@@lain9719if you write technical comments, long comments, or run-on sentences you will give flagged. You are basically restricted to simple words and 3 sentences max. Don't use ifs, but rather another sentence.
On the topic of note taking: you can still use Obsidian as a way of taking notes on the go. People typically use Daily Notes for that (there are different implementations of Daily Note in Obsidian). Regarding NextCloud: I think the problem is not with NextCloud, the problem is with iOS and its stupid constraints for file system access. If you ditch iPhone and move to P2P solutions like Syncthing, your life will change forever. I don't think I can ever go back to iPhone only for that one reason.
If we’re hosting services with a web gui (or nearly any website) worth noting how easy it is to create a pwa on mobile. I knew this was available on desktop but somehow overlooked it on mobile. For an embarrassingly long time.
Ive been using helix editor + marksman a lot for markdown notetaking. It's great, has sensible shortcuts and comes with a ton of themes. Cant go back to Obsidian now that I know how good it is to just use folders as folders and not some weird vault thing.

@@TheLinuxCast there’s an emacs build for android, but I can see it doesn’t really hit the „be fast or the thought is gone“ criteria. There are several apps do write and change org files on mobile, sync can be done using WebDAV or nextcloud. I use beorg but honestly I only use it as calendar anymore. For notes I use Braintoss, you type a note in, take a photo or a voice record, tap two times and it sends that to a predefined mail address. I then go through those mails when back at my desk and make proper notes of them in emacs. I think it depends on the way you take notes on mobile. I don’t want to take proper notes in markdown or org on my phone anyway. I don’t want to type long texts as well. It is way too fiddly to do that on phones imo.
Still not as simple as Google Keep for a shopping list, unfortunately. I like in Google Keep how when you check off an item it moves it to the bottom of the list, and if you add a new item to the list and it's already in the list but checked off, it will give you the option to tap it to re-add it back to your current position in the list unchecked. I also wish it had a full screen layout view of all your notes that you can drag/drop around like Google Keep does rather than a single column chronological list. All that being said, it is impressive for what it does for free.
You can use fleeting notes app and the u just get the fleeting notes plugin wallah. You can take keep style notes on your phone but it saves in your vault in md

Android has a nextcloud note app. Plus you can configure cloud sync for any folder on your Android system
