    Thank you so very much! I have had an iPad since I turned 60 12 years ago and I learned stuff about my contact list on this. I am excited to review your videos and learn some more!

    You are not addressing my problem. I have an I pad and want to send a text message to friends that don’t have a n Apple product but do have an android…after I choose the recipient and type the text I’m not able to send it. It does if my friend has an Apple product.

      @@EccentricArcWell my helper has an iPad mini 6. Cellular model. She has no problem in receiving text messages from us including those who is on android. The problem is when she replied, the text was not delivered. Any idea how to hack this problem?

      That’s because messages is apple to apple. If your text includes an android user it sends it differently, and uses your data. If your iPad is Wi-Fi only, you don’t have a data plan on it.

      Same problem, I used to work until we traveled outside the country and installed a temporary eSIM. Now after removing the eSIM and swapping back to Vz carrier, messages fail sending as sms messages and only works for iMessages. Meaning Apple to Apple is ok, but sending messages from Apple to Android fail. It has to be something in settings- just not sure what …. Possibly my iPhone as the personal hotspot for the iPad

    I love texting. I’m a hairstylist and it is great way to make an appointment. The client will text me and when I get time I will tell them the availability and they can let me know which one is good. I put down the appointment and tell them the date and time of the appointment. So it is all written down, so if there is confusion about the appointment it is all written down.

    Hi Rich,
    Thank you for making this video. The part pertaining to notifications was especially helpful. My problem is that when my sister who has an iPhone texts me on my iPhone it does not transfer to my iPad. I have made sure that my Apple ID matches in both my phone and my iPad. I have an iPhone 11 which does not have call forwarding. I’m hoping you can help me with this.🤷‍♀️
    Thank you in advance!

      Well they're actually close to the same size on both devices. But in Settings on the iPad under Display and Brightness, you can scroll down to Display Zoom. Tap on that and then tap on Larger Text. That'll make everything a little bigger on the iPad, including the app icons. Hope this helps!

    When I tried activating messages in iCloud backup I got an error message saying something like "iCloud and Messaging have different accounts" I fooled around a bit and discovered that before activating the Message iCloud backup you first have to open iMessage and sign in with your Apple ID! Once I did that I was able to activate message backup in iCloud.

      An iPad cannot send text messages. It can send iMessages which look very similar to text messages using the built-in Messages app. However, iMessages can only be sent to other people who have an iDevice. The only possible way you can send a text message via an iPad is if you have an iPhone and iPad linked with the same Apple ID.

      You can send SMS messages to Android phones. My son-in-law has an Android phone and he gets my texts - at least when sent from my iPhone. But it's hit-or-miss. It's rock solid when sending texts to another Apple device - even an iMac. Thanks so much for watching!

      Hi! You can text from your non cellular iPad to another Apple device such as an iPhone or iPad. As far as I know, you can't text to an Android phone unless you're using a cellular iPad or iPhone. It's a pain as I have a lot of friends with Android phones. Thanks for watching.

    • @JJFlores197
      @JJFlores197 Рік тому +1

      No. He only does iOS. The hurdle with doing this on Android is that there are many different variations of it. Android phones all run the same core system, but many manufacturers customize it a lot. You can have 2 different Android phones from different companies that look very different. They do have the same core functionality, but I think it would make it difficult to create a universal Android guide especially for people who are brand new to Android and even smart phones.

      Message automatically sync if you're connected to iCloud on both devices. What doesnt sync is deleting messages. If you delete a message on your iPad it won't be deleted on your iPhone. Hope this makes sense.

    • @RichBowlin

      @Nick Santos. Hi Nick - I don't think you can text an android device from an iPad unless the iPad is a cellular version. My son-in-law has an android phone and I can only text him from my iPhone - not my iPad. I wish android or Apple or whoever would fix this. Thanks so much for watching!

      Good point. In most of my videos I assume the iPad has been setup and connected to the internet via wifi. I do have a few setup videos but I think I need one starting from scratch - as in when you take it out of the box. If you do have your iPad connected to the Internet then you can just tap on messages and text as shown in the video. I wish it would have been more helpful for you. But thanks so much for watching.

    The video touts the advantages of texting compared to phone calls, but doesn't email have the same advantages? If you can use your iPad to send email messages, why would you need to ever text? Is the difference the notifications?

    • @RichBowlin
      @RichBowlin  2 роки тому +2

      Text messaging is designed for smaller snippets of text than an email. But both can do about the same thing. Typically, there's a little less friction sending a text than an email. And with email you need to have an account. But in the end, I say use whatever suits you best. "Texting" was sort of "forced" on me by family and friends. Once I got the hang of it, it became my preferred method of digital communication. Great question!

    • @gatocat3336
      @gatocat3336 10 місяців тому +2

      I’ve got one answer to this question. There are some people in this world who only send emails and never text( like me, so far), and some people who only text and never send emails( like my friend). That’s why I’m learning to text.

      You need internet to use email. In text message, you don't need internet connection. That's the difference. Besides, you cannot make an email account without a text verification code. So, there you go
