  • NOTICE: In July 2021 the channel name changed from HamCuredSmoke
    To Ham Radio A2Z. All of the earlier videos (like this one) are still available.
    We're going to look at section 18 of the manual and go into detail about getting audio from the radio using the 13 pin Accessory Socket on the back of the radio. We also take a quick look at all the ways you can get audio out of the 7300.

    Tom, I realize its been a while since you made the videos. I was a hardcore Kenwood fan (TS480) but fell in love with the 7300. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the videos. They are superb and I am really enjoying learning about my radio.

      Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you are enjoying them. My 1st 3 HF rigs were Kenwoods. I always enjoyed them and got great audio reports. It just seems they haven’t been keeping up on the HF rigs lately.

      You’re going to really enjoy the 7300. I had an FT-897 and 2 FT-857s. I still have one 857. They’re great little radios, but the features, functions and audio quality you get with the 7300 is hard to beat.

    I love your videos. All of them have been good for me as a new ic-7300 owner. Question. I run the audio from all my radios to my digital mixer. I decided to use the ext speaker out of the 7300 to my mixer so that I can adjust the volume from both the radio and the mixer but I also have a at2020 studio mic that I would like to use for the 7300, along with a external ptt switch. Can I connect my ptt switch and my mic input through the acc connecter or would it be better to connect through the front mic connector? Thanks! W5CIB

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  4 роки тому

      You will have to connect that mic to your mixer, or to some mixer. It requires 48V phantom power. Icom rigs are setup for electric condenser mics. So they do put out a power source for the mic, but it's only 8 volts. I don't think it will work for that mic. You would be best off to run that mic into a mixer and then feed the mixer line-out to the Acc jack on the back. You can connect the PTT switch to it at the same time. You could use the one mixer and have all the audio from the radios on left channel and have audio going back to the radios on right channel. Just make sure you have all the pan pots set the right way or you'll be in for a lesson on feedback. 😉

      @@HamRadioA2Z Can you detail a video or even here in the comment section, which of the wires from the ACC cable are needed in order to connect a microphone through the ACC socket? For example pin #11 says "Modulator" pin #3 SEND and then there's a ground pin. Are these the 3 you need to get audio from an mixer XLR connector in the 7300? Your response is highly appreciated

    I am assuming your mono connector to the mixer will output in one channel only out of the mixer?
    If that is the case, I was looking or a 3.5 mm mono to dual 1/4 mono, but not found yet. In that way I would get line Right, and line left on my mixer, so I can use both output channels with two studio monitors I got.
    Are you using then just one speaker for the audio then? Thanks.

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  4 роки тому

      Yes, mono. No dual receive in the 7300. So nothing for the other channel. I have the rig going directly into a 1/4” instrument input on 1 channel of my mixer. Each channel on my mixer (and most mixers) has a Pan pot that allows you to direct that channel’s output to Left Channel, Right Channel or anywhere in between. So should be no problem getting your rig output to both speakers.

    Hi Bob i would like to install on the ic7300 my behringer console but without the mixer.
    do i use the same connection that you describe on the video and the connection is direct without
    any electronic components (resistor etc)?
    thanks bob

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  4 роки тому

      Hi Jimmy,
      I don’t know which Behringer console you have. Most of their equipment that I am familiar with are mixers. Regardless, you can connect the audio out pins that I described in IC7300 A-Z videos 8 & 9 directly to the Line-In input on any mixer or other analog audio input device without the need for any resistors. There are certain cases where you might want to use a 1:1 audio transformer to provide a layer of isolation between the rig and your audio equipment. The impedance isn’t too critical as long as it is a 1:1 transformer. A 600 or 1000 ohm transformer should work fine.

    Thanks for the straighforward explanation Tom. What does one need in order to use the accessory port for multiple functionalities, is there a break out box or similar available?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  3 роки тому

      Icom makes a cable (OPC-599) that splits the accessory plug into 2 smaller 7 and 8 pin DIN connectors. It is mostly for compatibility with accessories for older Icom radios that had 2 smaller connectors instead of the 1, 13 pin connector. I don't know of anyone that makes a breakout box or anything similar. Although, that sounds like a really good idea.

      @@HamRadioA2Z Thanks Tom. I did see a home brew version on YT about a year ago (by an EI ham I think) that needed two or three specific functions that each required a common earthe/ground feed and they took out the various functions to separate 13 pin DIN connectors mounted in a project box, and I recall him pointing out that not all 13 pin DINs are equal in quality.

    I use a mixer too, but I go directly from the speaker jack on the back of the radio into the mixer with an adapter. No need to use the accessory port in the back. Why did you not choose the speaker jack to mixture way?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  3 роки тому

      Hi Jose. Thank you for the comment. There are 2 reasons that I use the accessory jack. First, the audio level coming out of the accessory jack is a “line level” output or about 1V P-P max. It is more suited for going into the input of a mixer than speaker level audio. You can use a resistor divider or attenuator to make the speaker output work okay.
      The second and more important reason for me is that the accessory jack output level is fixed, regardless of how the AF Gain or volume control knob is set on the front of the radio. So, once you set you mixer levels, you don’t have to worry about them changing if you or somebody else accidentally or intentionally adjusts the volume knob. 73, Tom

    • @bahathir_
      @bahathir_ 5 років тому

      Hi,
      You can use builtin soundcard. There are several instruction videos related to it.
      Also we use the built-in soundcard to record audio from the rig. Use recording software such as Audacity, and select audio input from the rig, which usually named as "Audio CODEC".
      Thank you.

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  5 років тому +1

      Hi Bob, Mohammad is correct. The IC-7300 has the sound card interface built into the radio. You just need a USB A-B cable. Plug it into the radio and into your laptop and your almost done. If you're running Windows 10, it will recognize the audio interface and install drivers automagically. Then when you run your software, you just need to select the right audio device. In WSJT-X, for example, go to the File menu, then select Settings, then click on the Audio tab. Under Soundcard you can select the audio devices from the drop down menus. The 7300 will show up as something like "USB Audio CODEC", probably with a number in front of it.
      Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you're enjoying the series.

      @@HamRadioA2Z Might be a good idea, if you make episode related to setup FLdigi, WSJTX .. or other software .. The basic concepts are..
      Make sure PC/laptop recognizes IC-7300's virtual comm port and soundcard devices..
      I think that is the most important step to control the IC-7300 using PC/laptop.

      Agreed, the rig has built-in TX/RX audio recorder, but it cannot retransmiited the recorded audio.
      So by recording the rig's audio using PC/laptop/smarphones/tablet, we easily able to TX the recorded audio. Example record QSO for audio check and reTX it bacc.
      Also it more convinient to record directly to PC/laptop where we can shere the audio file without need to take off the SDcard from the rig and copy the files to PC/laptop In In my setup, I record the rig's audio directly into .m4a format which use less disk space compared to .wav format, and all are done using RAspberry Pi 3B+ from command line. ..
      Thank you for the comment.

      1/ THere is limit numbers of files that we can use for "Voice TX"
      2. We need to take off the SDcard and move and rename the files. in the SDcard, and put it back to the rig.
      3. There is limits how long the VOICE TX can transmit.
      Since we already connected PC/laptop to the rig, we can record/playback audio files to/from the rig.
      In 2018, my first eear owning the IC-73000, I already did more than 4000 recordings using my laptop and Raspberry Pi. It just easy for me to record using command line on laptop/Raspberry Pi. YMMV.
      Beside TX the playback audio file, I also able to use USB microphone as main microphone for QSOs too.

    What Is the trick for unplugging the power cable!

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Frank. I had this problem early on also. It looks like you should press on the split piece of plastic toward the rear of the connector, (at least that’s what it looked like to me) That is not the case. You need to press on the center piece of plastic on the top of the power cord connector right next to where it meets the connector on the radio. You need to do this with a thumbnail or with a small screwdriver. Then the power cord connector pulls apart easily.
