  • (00:03) the Ford F150 Lightning is a five-star NCAP rated vehicle from the NHTSA. The ANCAP is a new car Assessment program performed by the US government regulator, the National Highway Transport and Safety Administration. This is a regulator that has the powers to recall vehicles, issue fines to OEMs and enact and enforce changes to Road Safety standards within its jurisdiction.
Australia has the ANCAP program, that is the Australian New Car Assessment Program. ANCAP is an independent non-regulatory consumer information organisation which publishes star ratings based on independent crash testing that they conduct. ANCAP's traditional safety rating program covers New Light Commercial vehicles with a GVM of up to 3.5 tons.
Larger or NB category Vehicles do not currently fall within the ANCAP safety rating scope. The Ford F-150 Lightning's GVM is over 3.5 tons. GVM stands for Gross Vehicle Mass, which is the total weight of the vehicle with all passengers, trailers and cargo attached to it.
ADR stands for Australian Design Rules, which are a set of rules that every Australian vehicle must comply with. The vehicle is remanufactured with a minimally invasive steering and braking transfer system system. This means that no original safety features on the Ford F-150 Lightning are affected, thereby retaining its five-star safety rating.
