- Nathanial Hackmann and the cast of City Center Encores! production of "Paint Your Wagon" sing 'They Call the Wind Maria' to preview their production, which runs March 18-22.
Fine voice, good stage presence, handsome face and a very well put together physique. I can't think of any reason this young gentleman could do anything but succeed. Lovely voice, really. Not a note lacks power, control, and confidence.
He played Curley in BCC proms Oklahoma, he’s fantastic, give it a watch!
He’s also 6’ 8” tall
Sorry, but despite all his efforts he can't hold a candle to Harve Presnell, who performed the song in the film version of "Paint Your Wagon".
@@jslasher1 … You are SO right‼️ No one is Harve’s equal 👩🏻🏫👵🏻👏🏻🥰‼️
😊❤
This song is the absolute high point of "Paint Your Wagon," and I really like his rendition.
You're right, it doesn't fit with the rest of the movie, it kind of stands alone as one of the great musical performances ever. Frederick Lowe was in his prime when he wrote this, it's meant for a rich, deep male voice.
Wait, was he singing? lol
He proves that singing is a good chest workout.
I wouldn't mind those pecs though!
😂😂 love this!!
I'm straight married man. but if he ask for me dam hard thing to ignore
What?
Nope.... you're waaay gay...
@@johnnyvee1721 yep as bent as a 9 Bob note
Kurt Arnold 🙈🙈🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
gay.
He sang it well but harve presnell blew me away with his rendition
Agreed. Good rendition. However Presnell is the epitome of this song and noone has ever surpassed his rendition.
It’s Mariah. In the musical, it’s a weather condition, not a Mexican girl.
a trick: watch series on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies recently.
@Finn Esteban Definitely, been watching on Flixzone for years myself :)
Harve is an act you just cant follow
Wonderful❣️ Have always loved this song. They nailed it👍
Awesome job. What an exceptional voice.
What a fantastic singer! Not bad on the eyes either.
YUM...looks, voice and talent!!
Goose bumps. Thank-you.
My name sounds so much better when he sings it
Mariah Kathryn I AGREE
Mariah, give me about 5 minutes and you'd be singing MY name !
Mar Iah great name
This guy deserves a screen test. Talent and stage presence.
He has a good voice but when he gets a bit older and his voice devlopes it's "timber" he will sound more like Harve Presnell
Right up there with Harve Preshnell - wonderful!
This great old song is in good hands it seems. God bless the human voice!
Christian Hill, you are so right! God's gift to us
is usable in many ways, and raising this precious
instrument in beautiful song can move us to
tears of happiness all across the world. Blessings to you and your loved ones and all viewers, too.
Such a beautiful song!
What an amazing singer! Got a quality that reminds me of the likes of Howard Keel and Gordon Macray. Really wish that I could see this live! Xxx
I was just watching Paint your wagon and I thought the singer of Mariah was Howard keel. This is a good version, but not quite up there with Harve Presnell.
Christine Daae?
🎵Two of my favourites!
he's good, but Harve Presnell still blows him away....
Bill Fisher I couldn't agree more. This guy has pipes, but Harve Presnell nails this down better than any other.
There's no one like Harve but this guy pretty good
Harve Presnell blows everyone away with this song.
Bill Fisher That's not even fair to bring Harve's name into this discussion much less a direct comparison.... shakes head...
Great rendition. Ultra macho. This guy can sing. Quality voice. The finished product must have been good. Very ably assisted by a great chorus, some good voices there too.
There's too much criticism and comparison with major feature film original. This is a simple video upload caught from a rehearsal probably taken from a cell phone cam and mic. Put him in the studio close-mic'd with an orchestra and an old plate reverb and vintage tube microphone like they used back in the day and this young man would sound like a million bucks. Excellent raw talent. I'm sure he's goings places fast! Good luck to him and the rest of his peers... Cheers!
Not sure I agree with him sounding 'raw'. He sounds pretty polished to me
Matthew Wright Agree
You're kidding yourself. Listen to Robert Goulet, Ed Ames, Harve Presnell, Gilbert Price do this song.
No plate reverb, no close-micing just the ambient acoustics of a sound stage.

Check out his performance as Curley in the 2017 BBC Proms staged concert of Oklahoma! (Posted on UA-cam)
He's a great singing actor, I love he declares the statement with great vocal presence, and I'm currently learning this piece which is incredible!
A splendid performance by Mr. Hackman and his chest.
Wow....wish there more songs sung like this.
I was just singing this to my 3 Dogs as Hurricane Harve-y blew through...
Wunderbar. Gesungen💖💖💖👍👍🎶🎶🌟🌟
Love this song, love how he did this , strong voice, 💗
Saw this Friday night, He was impressive and even more thrilling in person. It was one of the best Encores I have ever seen.
I'm jealous
He is very good at this song. I had a brotherfriend sing it to me when I was young, it melted my heart. This man does not understand this song is about a broken man. If you listen to Harve Presnell sing it in the movie you can hear the brokeness. It is one of the best memories in my life. Men should sing to women more.
YES!!!!
I was thinking the same thing. I always wondered what love Harve Presnell had in mind when he sang this song. Amazing!
Nothing better than Harve Presnell singing this song.
I have to agree with the other comments. Harve Presnell owns this song. He got it and sang it beautifully. Its a shame that movie musicals were in decline at the time that he could have been a bright star in so many.
@@ThePapasmurf1946 q
How hot is he??!!
Or Harve Presnell, who sang it in the movie.
🔥🔥🔥
Just beautiful. And handsome, God have mercy.
Strong, proficient but not stirring.
Handome young man with a good voice. No Harve Presnell, but who can ever compete with Harve.
Sam Cooke did it best
Wow!
This guy is the real deal. Hot damn. Checkout his Soliloquy it is mind blowing.
Am I the only one who fights back tears when you hear this lovely song? It gets me every time. As for Nathaniel Hackman --- man, one of the finest, purest versions I've heard. I have listened to so man fantastic singers put their own spin on it, and this young man nailed it shut and wrapped it up with a bow! I've now added my tears to his rendition!
Amazing
I really didn't expect much to be honest. until he started singing. wow i was very surprised. he even looks like the man who sang it in the movie. he could easily be in that movie along with the background music in the movie. now this was very good . really great singing !
Magnificent
Omgee where did they find him!!! He's gorgeous!
Great version. the fella with the beard who's voice really packs a punch towards the end of the song
He has an amazing voice.
hello--i'm right here!
he’s even using the right resting technique via expanding his belly with every breath as opposed to his chest!
What a brilliant performance - loved it from start to finish!
Mmmhmmmm. That boy can sing.
Lovely voice. Wow. He doesn't quite characterize the song as beautifully as Harve Presnell did in his version though
Yeah, he's pretty good - but hard to equal Presnell, Goulet, Ed Ames, Gilbert Price.
That's probably because he drinks soy protein shakes. I seriously doubt Harve drank any.
Harve had better lungs. He sings it more like a night club ballad.
He just needs more experience.
Harve Presnell owned this song!
No one will ever top his version.
Gorgeous man and gorgeous voice! Beautiful technique!
Wow … I got goosebumps! ❤❤❤❤❤
Saw him in Les Mis as Valjean. Amazing performance and an extraordinarily talented man. :)
Gloria, isn't it wonderful that the younger generation is picking up the great old songs
many of us first heard in our youth, and bringing
them to a whole new audience? BRAVI!!
Gorgeous. I've always loved this song.
He has a great voice. I have a daughter by the name Mariah
I'm the rain
Away out here they've got a name
For rain and wind and fire
The rain is Tess,
The fire's Joe
And they call the wind Maria
Maria blows the stars around
Sets the clouds a-flyin'
Maria makes
The mountains sound like folks was out there dyin'
Maria (Maria)
Maria (Maria)
They call
The wind
Maria
Before I knew
Maria's name
And heard her wail and whinin'
I had a gal
And she had me
And the sun
Was always shinin'
But then one day
I left my gal
I left her far behind me
And now I'm lost,
So gol' darn lost
Not even God
Can find me
Maria
Maria
They call
The wind
Maria
Out here they have a name for rain
And wind and fire only
When you're lost and all alone,
There ain't no name for lonely
I am a lost and lonely man
Without a star to guide me
Maria blow my love to me
I need my gal beside me
Maria (Maria)
Maria (Maria)
They call
The wind
Maria
Maria!
Maria (Maria)
They call
The wind
Maria
Moon, Thank you very much for the lyrics of this beloved song! Most of it is pretty
straightforward, but I only realized a few details for the first time today. I like this
young man and his presentation, but to me, Harve Presnell takes the top award for
it. You can truly feel his bereft heart in that Godforsaken cold and loneliness, the
wind howling all around you. It was a great film, and I listen to his version every so
often. Best wishes to you!
HAS MARIAH CAREY HEARD THIS?! She was named after this song!
considering she has a song called the wind, she probably did.......
This song is from the 50's
100% Patricia her mother christened her Mariah precisely because of this song the mariah herself already told that
I meant this man’s rendition. I’m sure she’s heard the original. 😉
My name is mariah😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
mariah schirmer !!
The real question is when is he going to play Robert in The Bridges of Madison County?? He would honestly equal Pasquale in my opinion. And that's something that is incredibly difficult.
What a tremendous voice. Thank you for posting. He does the beautiful song so very well.
his wife is one lucky lady, she also sings and has a beautiful voice
Looks like those abs he was working on during Ramin's vlog happened
I’m in The Hunchback of Notre Dame with him right now
I watched it last week and he was fantastic!
Its good to hear a baritone voice on Broadway. The male síngers with few exceptions are tenors belters and sing in falseto .Baritones now are few Bryan Stokes Mitchell Norm Lewis Steve Pasquale Michael Cerveris and few more. Bit this baritone is marveleus on the Keel Mc Rae and Presnell tradition
This guy is also a tenor. If he sang opera (to which these terms even matter), he'd likely be a bigger/lower tenor.
Bravo!!!! Really wonderful!!! Thank you!!!
I was named for this singing wind 🌬
What a perfect looking and sounding man - he would’ve made a great “Superman”.
So I’ve been watching some West Side Story vids lately which is the only reason I can think of that the you tube algorithm led me to this “Maria” song, Great rendition though
I recently rediscovered Harve Presnell on you tube when someone commented on him in a robert goulet video. Not only the best singer of this song but the best I've ever heard. PERIOD. As I commented in the they call the wind maria remastered, if you think that was good listen to his solo of O Holy Night. He performs with the roger wagner chorale and his rendition shames the angels themselves. Nobody but nobody had a more beautiful vocal instrument than Harve Presnell. Divinely gifted, no star should have ever shown brighter. Truly one of a kind.
Thanks for this, I'll look it up as I love that song(o Holy Night)and *&^@ it when M. Carey or Cher sings it!
Myriah, Moriah, Mariah however it is spelt, we all grew up hearing "they call the wind Mariah"
Mariah approved
Nice! Not over the top like I'm sure most would attempt it.
He could use more breath support and sing more from the diaphragm. Too throaty.
Why would anyone want to put themselves up against Harve Presnell's version?
Ridiculous comment.
@@malp1 Either you have not heard Harve's version or you have no appreciation of a magnificent voice.
It's more rewarding to sing this it than to hear it. Kudos to the composer Frederick Lowe back in '51.
Thank you Nathaniel you are amazing, God bless Stephen Durelos.
Alright now, Nathaniel!!
the part of im a lost a lony man without a STAR" to guilde has to come thru on that character I dont wanna underline it but you know after reading this and rewatching the origin
Not a fair comparison, but nobody does this as well as Harve Presnell in the film version.
His voice is absolutely terrific, he's exceptionally good looking, and OMG, what a BODY !!!
Wonderful rendition! Just watched him on UA-cam in BBC Proms Oklahoma! -- great Corley. Broadway needs him!
Brings tears to my eyes. So beautiful.
Oh my !!! A treat for the eyes and the voice(s) spectacular!!
This is a neat rendition. Those tenors were singing right on.
Kudos to this young man and the chorus. They sound amazing and none of them had to make a face like they were in pain.
Great singing! Love this song, he does it proud..
Such a beautiful voice!
I was here before a million views
Awesome job, Nathaniel!! I use this song for auditions. Super on the chorus guys!
Paint Your Wagon - The first horror movie. When Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood are in a musical, yep. Horror film. :)
i just stared at his chest the whole time.
A beautiful song from an unfairly neglected show. As a musical play, it's just as good as "Camelot" and "My Fair Lady".
Wonderful, thank you.
Absolutely; this is a delicacy... if this was just a rehearsal, I cannot imagine the premiere... ...the audience could have wanted to pay once more to listen just this piece again. I would indeed.
The BEST of all singers...... such a powerful voice
Hes great. Wish more Broadway singers sounded like him, reminds me of the John Raitts, Gordon McCraes, Alfred Drakes of the past. A very manly instrument. Too many guys on Broadway today sound like girls, or worse...
That's my name and it's actually spelled Maryah. Lol. I love his voice! 💖😊
Old fashioned guy here. Hackman did a good job, but no-one will ever match Presnell's version.
Superb, what a fantastic voice and performance
To comment a little further this is a fine rendition but Harve Presnells voice did not originate from this earth. One other listener said that he heard opera singers attempt this song and were shamed by his godlike vocal range. Powerful, deep and intensely passionate, if I had one voice to listen to for all eternity it would be Harve Presnell. More famous singers yes, but never better.
I know this song well, super wonderful job, from a handsome man.
Great song, played it outloud for all the neighbors to be annoyed lol..
Beautiful voice, but Harve Presnell OWNED this song and always will
It's so nice to know that there are young people that want to really sing
