A Brief Note on Star Trek Canon: I know many of you don't like Discovery and Picard, and personally I agree that the shows are disappointing and poorly written. But at the same time I can't simply say they don't count as canon. As far Alpha Canon is concerned, it applies to all shows and movies. Including the JJ Abrams movies, Discovery and Picard. In order to avoid stumbling over the inaccuracies and changes made by newer Trek, this channel will avoid talking about them in detail, and only mention them when absolutely necessary. I will also be exclusively basing my drawing on classic Star Trek (TNG-ENT). So just to be clear, the following IS considered Alpha Canon on this Channel The Original Series The Animated Series The Next Generation Deep Space Nine Voyager Enterprise The Motion Picture The Wrath of Khan The Search for Spock The Voyage Home The Final Frontier The Undiscovered Country Generations First Contact Insurrection Nemesis KELVIN TIMELINE - Alternate Universe Star Trek Into Darkness Beyond Discovery Picard
I agree mostly, yes... Disco and Picard are new and differant... but DS9 was differant than TNG... i didnt like that show at first either.. but... i now rank DS9 as being on par as TNG, maybe slightly better....im thankful that we have more TREK stories. .and the franchise was thought dead, and now Risen... nothing but love Civ X!!!
CivilizationEx, i am glad that you decided not ignore discovery and picard. I am tired of people who pretend that certain movies or tv shows don’t exist simply because they didn’t liked them
@@ornessarhithfaeron3576 There are a number of Orion women serving in Starfleet and other organizations, sometimes seen in the background of scenes, who don't affect the people around them in anyway, therefore implying that some, or probably most, do not possess that ability.
IMHO StarFleet could have taken down the Orion syndicate by the time of TNG, but chose not to, as a *known* criminal organisation provides some stability - rather than a free for all with gang wars for control. And also it's the first place to look when something is funky. It could be that *Section 31* has an eye on them and a inside line, to make sure they don't threaten the stability of the Federation, and they are a useful tool (and cut out) for clandestine work and a useful _Patsy_ as well for wetwork operations. The Orions do their thing as society does need a criminal underworld of some sort, just as a pressure valve, and if they do overstep the mark then someone is sent in to take that part down, and it appears to all, including the Orions, that StarFleet got lucky and had plot armour. Miles just happened to be sent in and then discovered _a much bigger plot…_ It could be that Section 31 arranged for Miles to be sent in, already knowing that the Dominion was involved, but they needed Starfleet Intelligence to "discover" that fact themselves. As for how Starfleet could take down the syndicate if they really wanted to - telepaths. A combined force of Vulcans skilled in mind probes and *full blooded Betazoids* could cripple them with ease as they uncover the entire network. They could be surgically altered to look like non telepathic species, just a bit of eye work on the Betazoids and they can pass as human and learn everything by just looking at someone (remember Luxwana Troi uncovered a bomb plot with casual ease). And the Vulcans are back up, they provide their own mental abilities and immunity to pheromone control, and they are good in a close in unarmed fight with their strength and nerve grips in covert situations - that petite human female suddenly has twice the strength you expected, a couple of extra decades of combat training, and can paralyze you with a shoulder touch. The only criminal organisation that could stand up to such a force is the Ferengi, with their telepathic immunity, and no one trust them anyway, besides why do crime when business is just as profitable for them? The Orions are allowed to exist.
To be honest I never got into Dr. Who, I watched a few seasons and generally liked it, but not enough to keep watching. Maybe if I ever get back into it.
Off topic, but imagine a timeline where Humanity decided _not to ban genetic engineering,_ but just fixed the mistakes they made with the brain chemistry [they were made to be more aggressive, it's just various versions have it as part of the design, or a unintended glitch]. By the time of the First Dr Soong of Enterprise, he's able to do his work openly, and Humanity as a whole are enhanced, just not megalomaniacs with wolf pack mentalities - maybe even a bit more stable than the default Human. Khan would get a shock when he was revived to discover that he would be considered obsolete with a psychological design flaw.
I suppose you could make an updated version of this now. Since Discovery went into the future, you could talk about The Chain and it's influence as a super-power after The Burn
Old trekker that didnt watched picard or discovery yet,are they good? they got a lot of really good and really bad reviews, can't decide yet if its worth watching. PS: Watched some lore videos, and just me or the new secret cabal fo romulans destroying the federation efforts to help romulos don't make any sense?
From the POV of a fan who loved the old series, the new ones are pretty bad. Both Discovery and Picard are pretty shameful representations of Star Trek that don't care about established Lore. At least that's my opinion.
I agree with CivilixationEx here, don't waste your time with anything Star Trek related from 2009 onward. Let's hope this stuff gets decanonized in the near future.

The Orion Syndicate are, along with the Andorians, one of the things Enterprise did really well.
And the borg, and Vulcans, klingons and the smooth face fase.
Enterprise was solid trek, not outstanding but did things right unlike STD and picard
Enterprise is my second favourite, honestly. TOS being first.
@@ornessarhithfaeron3576 I think enterprise is so much more relatable
