When doing the gag where the card is poking out, you should write "not this card, idiot. Pick again" on the card. If they pick it, it makes the gag funnier.

Ha! I knew the knot trick but didn't expect it to be beaten by an alternate method. My idea to counter that method was to ask them to give me the knot when they're done so I can inspect it which would imply it's not connected to anything.

Begin the knot bet by tying it in a knot and dropping it on the table. "But of course, I had to let go of both ends to tie this simple overhand knot. What if I were to tell you that I could tie that knot without letting go of either end." The use of the words "that knot" would help settle any loopholes. You may even show the wrist-hitch and say "This is a hitch and it isn't lying tightly on the table. So that's out..."

Depending on who you ask, what he did was a hitch. A knot it the rope wrapped around itself; a hitch is when the rope is tied around another object.
4:21 I would clarify that you want them to tie a plain overhand knot, and then show what it looks like before they start. Another perfect example of bar prop bets and cub scouts overlapping

Actually, there is a third way to win the knot challenge. If you pay close attention, she never specifies the first time she describes the task exactly the nature of the knot you’re supposed to tie so it’s just wrongly assumed that you must tie the two ends your holding into a knot which is impossible if you pick up the end the normal way rather then the genie method. But you can still win with the normal way as all you have to do is tie a knot using the two other corners dangling down that you are not holding currently with your hands and you can do this while not letting go if the two corners your are holding. It satisfies the request she made on a technicality. Of course she could reword the request so as to preclude this loophole but as she worded the request in the video you’d win with this solution.

    • @StViers
      @StViers 2 роки тому

It depends on how closely you grab the ends, and what their definition of "without letting go" is. You could totally choke up on the ends and tie an overhand knot/square knot with enough finger dexterity.

So he couldn’t lawyer his way out, just say “tie a knot…. And then pass me the handkerchief with said knot in it, for inspection.” If he went to pull it off his arm to pass for inspection, the knot would have dissolved, so you end up ‘clean’…!

    • @MarvinCZ

If they took it off their arm it would either have a loop or they could tighten it but it wouldn't dissolve.

What a terrible setup. "Hold on to both ends. Now see if you can tie a knot without letting go of either end." Setting the hankie down, crossing arms, and picking hankie up again clearly violates those rules.
Rex's solution was great. Slide the "bracelet" off his wrist, pull tight. Knot. Done.

    • @EelcoPeterzen

It's a lot of misdirection. She shows us Kevin. Puts it on the deck, sticking out at the top. She holds the cards up, to show us Kevin again, this time sticking out the top.
(8.31) While she does this, the other half of the deck in her other hand is moved behind the part where Kevin is. She does this to point to the card. But what she's actually doing is placing another blank card behind Kevin. Look at her left thumb when she moves the cards up. It grabs a card from the stack in her right hand and locks it behind Kevin.
She pushes Kevin down so it disappears into the stack, which we can see happening. Now when she moves her hand down again, we only see the back of the cards and cannot see that Kevin is no longer the top card.
(8.34) She spreads the cards in her right hand and asks where Kevin should be put back. She puts the top card in her left hand in the spot that's pointed out. We still think that card is Kevin, but it is in fact the blank card she just put on top.
(8.39) She asks the Rex to push the card in. She can't put it in, because she's moving her left hand up towards her mouth and put's Kevin, which is now the top card again, between her teeth/lips. We don't see this happening (because it's out of frame of the camera), because she has drawn our attention to the stack of cards where Rex is pushing in the card that he thinks is Kevin.
Because we all think Kevin is in the stack in her right hand, we keep our focus on that hand when the other brings the rest of the cards there as well. From this point on, it's a "magician's move", snapping her fingers. And waiting to see what is going to happen, we keep out focus on that deck. It's only at the second, or third, or... snap, which are done continuously closer to her mouth, that we realise something is off and our focus on the deck is slowly broken.
      Great trick. Brilliant performance.

well to be honest, scam school or scam nation as its called now has been around for a long time and the tricks they show go from very advanced to more basic ones to start off with so to say. I like these simpler ones because it is performable at a bar still after a few beers where some of the more advanced sleight of hand tricks can be difficult once you are slowly losing your fine motor skills due to alcohol. Although I too have known to knot trick since I was a lot younger, that doesn't mean every last person has and it is still a great icebreaker at a bar or other social place.
