      bx 9000 J, Lindell 80 Bus, 2 of them, set on different channels,, along with my saturation plugins, and bx Townhome..... I like using those on my final Masters more than my Hardware

    SSL NATIVE sounds best to my ears..People say it doesn't sound as good as the first version, I'm not sure of that, but this second version still beats the others from my personal opinion. Thank you for the amazing shootout 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼

      Thanks! I ended up buying SSL Native recently on sale, it really does sound great, I find it has a more aggressive sound but it still somehow preserves dynamics well. Definitely one of my favorites.

      Thanks! I've been rather busy these days so took a little break from UA-cam just to unwind a bit. I have several video ideas, so hopefully will be posting more regularly.

    The SSL Native sounds really warm and smooth so that gets my number 1.
    The Glue is clean and punchy which is nice too.

    I love the t racks bus compressor. Use it in every track. Their opto compressor is great too

    SSL BusComp (Reference) and Brainworx sound quite similar,
    yet BX is a little softer and kinda textured on the highs/transients..
    Waves has considerably less Low freq emphasis, and more Coloration on the Mids..
    NI seems to have more Drive,
    has present Lows and Highs are more crisp/less veiled than SSL BusComp..
    The Glue has less Drive than NI, but more than the reference,
    and highs are even more crisp/less veiled..
    TR5 is more tight/compressed, has a warm tone and bouncy quality to it,
    like BX, highs are also softer and textured on the highs/transients..
    Drums: Depends on the situation,
    they're all good specially BX, SSL and TR5.. Waves is different, Glue is ok, NI performed worse here..
    Electric Guitar: Again are all good, BX, TR5 and Waves stand out to me..
    Acoustic: SSL sounds very Authentic, but BX is even more Natural..
    NI is more Crisp, while Waves and TR5 performed worse..
    Voice: Gets more subtle but, SSL and BX were the best,
    TR5 also sounded interesting but kinda out of time/disjointed..
    while Waves performed worse being kinda brighter and Peaky.
    I disagree with Cytomic and Waves being similar..
    To me Cytomic sounds a bit like NI, but less Driven and thinner; while Waves has the most Colored tone.
    I would order them like: BX, SSL and then *TR5, *NI, Cytomic, *Waves
    (*=considering it's unique particularities that could make them preferable on a certain situation)

    Not a huge difference, but I definitely like the Glue best. Native Instruments and Waves fell apart when heavy compression is applied. Glue remains intact, but takes away lots of the low end (drums example), so I would advice using the internal sidechain highpass to take some of lows out of the detection circuit!

      I was really disappointed in the glue when compared to the others in this test, it just doesn't have it. SSL Native and Brainworx were the top ones for me.

    I have the NI Solid Bus Comp. It's on every master. However, never in auto release mode.

    This is not how this Master Buss compressor is supposed to be used. Instead of using an already mixed track, it is better to simulator individual tracks (bass, guitars, vocals, drums) all routed to the master buss where this compressor "glues" all those tracks together into one cohesive stereo track. The audio tracks used here are already mixed and will not produce the same results as individual tracks.

    For me it's the opposite. The only one I didn't like was the Waves. It takes the livliness of the source material. I liked the SSL and the NI for its more aggressive sound. The cytomic is a good alrounder here. And the Townhouse - I don't know... Highly subjective and just what I liked and what not ON THESE SINGLE SOURCES. But I am always looking for colour and movement with compressors.

      @rome8180 2 роки тому +1

      I liked the Waves. Some of the others added a low mid thickness I didn't like. It really depended on the instrument though. I liked the Waves on the full track, but less on the drums. I thought the Townhouse was the best overall. Sounded really smooth and added some high end snap.

      @@rome8180 Interesting, that we all focus different parts of the sound. And that we hear and like (or not) different things. (Not only here in this example).

    The plug-ins are static with no feel while WA ve more movement dynamic n feel to a mix …

    For me it’s The Glue > SSL Native > T racks > Native > BX = Waves

    I'v got a serious case of pluginitis. So I got the Waves, and the Brainworks and SSL Native. I use them all, and they all sound good. I can't hardly hear a difference. But if I only got to choose one, it would be the Brainworks Townhouse. I like the character. I can't put my finger on it, but still. I just trust my ears.

    • @rome8180
      @rome8180 2 роки тому +1

      I thought the Brainworks was the smoothest. Waves was my second favorite.

    I liked the SSL2 native, and purchased it with the Channel strip and another as a trio for I think 149.00 it was or was it less than 100 bucks a couple months ago when they were blowing the trio out as a sale. The hardware as always adds a depth and image of sorts that is complement the signal. But I think it's kind of hard to justify a comparison to the hardware and expect an exact reproduction, all hardware to me just has a, well, hardware sound. I mix and monitor through the Neve 8816 and get that hardware effect in a small way .

    Why didn't he comment on the performance of the T-Racks ???????

    • @FredDeMassiveAlambic
      @FredDeMassiveAlambic 2 роки тому +1

      used it a lot for years, and finally switched to SSL Native for most of my mixes. The T-Racks is good, but saturates too much imo, giving feeling of depth but also of imprecision sometimes. I rely on saturation for this, and even if this compressor sounds well, I prefer to use right tool for right job. The SSL is cleaner, less dense but really better on subtle glue with healthy transients. That's only my opinion. I would still use the Tracks for mixes that are too weak/too clean, but for everything else that's not my favorite tool anymore

    was the first audio file allready master buss comped in the making of the file? I know its a obvious anwser, but my ears were saying yes in some form
