I want to buy Osmo Action 4. But I saw in the sample footage of a UA-camr that after a few minutes Osmo Action 4 overheated and stopped recording automatically. What is your opinion in this regard? Is Osmo Action 4 worth buying? Is it reliable at all?
i think the overheating issue of OA4 is due to the EU regulation. I saw many videos from Amercian youtubers, they never came across the overheating issue. DJI Action series is actually well-known for its reliability and durability @@atiqurrahman1128
After watching a bunch of these comparison videos, DJI seems to do better with blue shades, controls lens flare much better, gives better shadow detail, and has less wind noise in the audio. GoPro seems to do better with creative preset modes, image stabilization and horizon leveling. I'm sure the people with early access GoPro Hero 12s are pulling their hair out - this generation looks like the biggest single-model-year advance in a long time, with bigger sensors, better color science and less lens flare...

...and I seriously do not understand why these Action Cameras forced consumers to purchase proprietary items to use superior products they do not provide. GoPro did away with 3.5mm after the 4 and forced people to buy that bulky proprietary crap adapter. Makes no sense other than for money.

It does look better. Without knowing the shutter speeds, low light comparisons don't mean much. Even full frame cameras have trouble filming at night, it's not surprising a tiny action camera does too xD

I have watched about a half dozen Action 4 reviews over the past couple of days and have to say that the image quality you show in your reviews really, really, really makes me want the Action 4, even though the image quality in the reviews of others is less than the Hero 11. I guess I now have to wait for a few weeks until the Hero 12 comes out to make a decision, especially since there are leaks that appear to show it with a full 1-inch sensor. Again, the image quality of the Action 4 in your videos is far superior to the other reviews I've watched.
I’m not going to lie, the dji looks really good compared to the GoPro in a lot of these clips. 😢 I just bought the 11 last year from watching your review and have enjoyed it but always noticed the color being a little off. I also think that magnet and view change from vertical to horizontal is sweet.
The osmo action 4 is so user-friendly with the dual screens to that cool magnetic quick release. They nailed it, and those options alone make me want to buy it.
the result of FOV comparison is so much different from what i've seen from other review videos. I guess there is something wrong here? The Osmo Action 4 also has a 155 degree fov which is much wider than GoPro 11. Could you do the test again? Thank you so much!
Thank you for this comparison! I was eyeing up the DJI Osmo 4 because of lowlight capabilities, longer battery life and not overheating. I never shoot in 5K with the GoPro so thats not a problem... It is hard to tell how they compare in low light with these kind of test scenes. It would be much better, if she would include some standardised tests with test charts and noise measurements. Just turning up the brightness, sharpness and applying some denoiseing subjectively improve the image, but in the end only metrics on raw data count.
You are not really being transparent here. Whilst this video isn't sponsored your previous review on the Osmo 4 was, and GoPro happens to be their biggest competitor. I've always enjoyed your honest and unbiased review, but feel you are going the way of most YT channels that follow this script.

I'm still using the GoPro hero 7 black! 4k 60fps for mountain biking or hiking. Battery last 1hr, no complains from me! & you can find them used for about $100-150.
Honestly the MegaPixel for photography makes little difference unless you are blowing photographs up to a trillion feet wide I still have a GoPro Hero 8 Black It’s brilliant
strange how on the opening shots the DJI smoothed and blurred the face skin much more than GoPro (even wires in background are almost invisible with DJI and very prominent with GoPro) - BUT I've just seen ANOTHER comparison of the VERY SAME CAMS by some guy, and in his test in was REVERSE OPPOSITE - GO PRO was smooth and hiding small details, while DJI was very sharp and he attributed it to DJI giving better clarity due to bigger sensor!
I have a feeling that some of the reviews are really heavily funded by DJI. I think I know which guy you wrote about. Yesterday I was amazed how he showed the difference between Action 3 and 4. Today there are more videos and you can see that DJi is softer, which is not a disadvantage, but I don't see the point of changing my Action 3 to Action 4. And yesterday I was 100% ready to sell 3 and order 4.
Field of View DJI wideness in their new Product has less distortion. For Camera in your Video the i think the 10pm defeat the 27mp photo in color accuracy and not sure but i think its more detailed maybe due to larger Sensor pixels is useless if sensor is not good. Im still using my dji3, but i really like those upgrade in 4 in low lights cause i shot at night more often.
I don't get why people keep talking about the aspect ratio as if the Osmo can't shoot in 4:3, that's 8:6 if you double it. It's honestly almost the same as the GoPro 8:7. You can still do the vertical crop if you want.
How is the GoPro Hero 11 with the lens mod vs the Action 4? I'm interested in the horizon leveling while in motion either on a bicycle or walking! You mentioned it briefly at 4:38. Which one captures the true shape of your face @3:43 the left is more oval and the right is more round. Which do you think looks like the image you see in the mirror? It seems that lenses often distort face shape. Maybe it doesn’t matter to anyone except the subject but it really bugs me!
GoPro has been the most famous, however my Hero 5, Hero 7 and hero 9 have always had an issue. Not recording, overheating, freezing and sometimes there's a line in the center. Hahaist
finished. so nothing changed my mind since yesterday. i hoped so much for a 2k 240 mode. or 5k with the bigger sensor. or slightly wider FOV with rocksteady on. DJI we dont care about a higher price if it can finally be on par with gopro video quality. bring out a action 4 plus or something with 6k60 and build in gps to blow gopro out of the water! i would buy it instantly. but like that with gopro 12 around the corner and 8k rumors i dont even think about buying the A4 over my just bought A3.
I can't find lots of good comparisons for the microphone for recording instruments outdoor. But I recently bought the gopro11 and I have to say that microphone is beautifull for recording acoustic instruments(I own several expensive professional mics for my home studio). Does the DJI have the option to save raw audio files ?
Thank you for this video. As a vlogger, I need set and forget functionality and to be able to quickly switch from a handheld grip to a big tripod, so that quick release magnet looks like a dream! If I could have a matching one attached to my big tripod, that would be perfect for me. It's good to see some firm competition with GoPro now. It feels like all the features and fixes I want from them just never come, and it's so frustrating and off-putting, that I haven't bought anything since the Hero 7! For instance, a 3.5mm jack right in the camera with no media mod, a bi-directional or omni-directional mic of Rode quality (from anyone!) and retiring that cumbersome thumb screw attachment. You have to buy GoPro accessories and spend potentially hundreds more on microphone kits if you want anything more than great footage and passable audio and I'm just tired of being ripped off. My phone performs better overall.
I think the ultimate test is what you use the most. I noted that you have primarily used the GoPro 11 for your vlogging rather the the OSMO 3…do you think that will change with the 4? Both looked good though. Thanks for the video!

The gopro subscription is very nice, but the camera replacement part of it is not available in Portugal, wich is very unfortunate. Overall I'm still on the fence over dji or gopro...

The more of these reviews I see the more I've come to believe that the DJI cameras have a clip on mount that incidentally has magnets in it vs and actual magnetic mount.
Want to stay in the gopro eco system but thinking about the dji for low light performance, mic connectivity and vertical mount ability. Hopefully gopro 12 will have all of those features
Same here,problem is I have several gopro's and accessories,but don't know if I can stil use them with the 12 . I already did a full change after they changed the body size. If not I can choose between dji or gopro
go pro makes faces rounder distortion and has a yellow cast but blues are a bit purple in most clips. low light film quality is important because i find most of the time i am in poor lighting conditions - thanks
My personal favourite, even after this comparison is GoPro 11. Its like GoPro is the Apple of Action Cams, and DJI is like Samsung. Both are amazing, but Apple is always a notch above other competitors.
Actually wondering why everyone is massively comparing the older Hero11 with the new Action4. Like the Hero12 will probably be released in 3 weeks from now... It should actually being quite stupid buying a Action4 now (unless you're really in need or really want it) while the Hero12 would probably be around the same price (the Action4 got very expensive compared to the Action3). So I would await the release of the Hero12, or at least waiting for it's specs. Not to forget that the Action3 had a lot of problems on release. So I think making a comparison between the Hero12 and Action4 would have been a more honest comparison.

In my opinion, the parameters are not as important as the fact that GoPro has a less digital image, DJI and Insta360 have an image like phones. For me, the image from GoPro is more pleasant and closer to DSLR.
A4 is not an A4 but a A3.+/- GPH11 is a year old. I have both a gph11 and an A3... and both have pro's and cons. A4 upgrade? not even close to being worth buying on top of having the ones above already. If you have none, sure buy it.

No Osmo Action 4 has ever overheated after a FEW MINUTES

The extra light gathering and non overheating issue that shuts down the gopro afer 30 min is a game changer for the DJI over the gopro.

I think the Osmo Action 4's audio quality is far superior! Got to try it first hand a couple weeks ago and it's great at isolating voices.
Agree, DJI's menu setup is way easier to navigate. I know that people get used to any device, but it seems much more user-friendly for beginners.

Vertical crop at 8:7 in 5K is the big selling point with GoPro. That results in a higher resolution cropped image than doing 4:3 in 4K.

Max Lens Mod offers the same FOV and quality as Hyperview (the widest built in FOV) on the Hero 11.
4:3 is honestly almost the same as 8:7. If you double it, it's 8:6.... you can still do that portrait crop if you want.

Why not just wait for the Hero12 before any evaluations? Or just compare it to the Action 3 to see if there is any benefits at all.

It should actually being quite stupid buying a Action4 now (unless you're really in need or really want it) while the Hero12 would probably be around the same price (the Action4 got very expensive compared to the Action3). So I would await the release of the Hero12, or at least waiting for it's specs.
Not to forget that the Action3 had a lot of problems on release.
So I think making a comparison between the Hero12 and Action4 would have been a more honest comparison.

In my opinion, the parameters are not as important as the fact that GoPro has a less digital image, DJI and Insta360 have an image like phones. For me, the image from GoPro is more pleasant and closer to DSLR.

A4 is not an A4 but a A3.+/-
GPH11 is a year old.
I have both a gph11 and an A3... and both have pro's and cons.
A4 upgrade? not even close to being worth buying on top of having the ones above already.
If you have none, sure buy it.

I started with GoPro. I still have to learn color grading. The stabilisation was good. But I wish the battery lasted longer. But so far good.
