Please cover this man. He used to troll the everliving shit out of me back on Teamliquid, but he was a genuine guy to his team and a great face of the community. He'll definitely be missed RIP Jeff
I remember 2011, being 1st year student, obsessed with starcraft and watching IdrAs streams. In my mind I can still hear loud clicks of his mechanical keyboard, Flux Pavilion and Skrillex tracks playing in the background and pouring tears of french canadian terrans who failed to bunker rush him. Man, this is so nostalgic I cant even. I'm almost 30 now and I look at those times as some ancient relic from the past.
He would have whined about protoss or terran being underpowered then. He starting sucking shortly after release, and never got better. He wanted one build to work every match, which showed just how little he understood the game. The fact that he was bitching for THREE YEARS straight about zerg and never switched races was just ridiculous. Dude is the biggest ass clown in e-sports history. That is his legacy.
@@aelix56 There is still one great community, yet a lot smaller. Age of Empires 2. With Red Bull's interest in the competitive scene it is on the rise.
Love me some SC2 content. It feel really cool to already see impact of esports I've watched ripple into the future. At the same time I really wish the typical esport career was way longer.
I loved Idra. Just keep in mind.. he was hands down the best foreigner in Sc1 and Sc2 at certain points... So he wasn't just some ragequitter. Dude was a beast on the hardest game of all time
“Grack” was the best to watch , those were some good times man. Awesome memories , and he was the first full time foreigner in Korea which was pretty fun
As a fellow Zerg player, I always rooted for Idra. Sure, he didn't show the most sportsmanlike behavior but he always directed his comments at people who could take it. As far as I know, he was never racist or homophobic or misogynistic, or even hurtful. Maybe other people see it differently but for me it was just friendly banter, in-jokes and a way to let his frustrations show. I prefer someone who is a bit rough around the edges but has a good heart to someone who is very smooth talking but uses that to push a hateful agenda. And that is I think while he was allowed to stay for so long a why it was a shock when he was let go: if you looked behind the surface, it was clear that he is a good guy underneath. But I can also understand why they had to fire him as a way to draw the line and as a signal to younger players who would potentially not take the context into account and emulate him in a bad way. This could have been different if Starcraft was for ages 16+ and not 12+.
Nice to see StarCraft 2 videos from you guys. There are so many incredible runs, and story lines in both SC2 and Warcraft 3. I'd kill for a long video like this on Grubby finally beating Moon and his Druid of the Talon spam in Grand finals for example. Hope to see more ! Thanks for the great content.
We face again the reality that drama is fucking awesome, drama and underdogs bring probably the most intense moments in esports. We love great play, but you go there expecting that, is what you don't expect that makes everything great.
He quit not because he didnt realize he won but because he didnt want to give chance for his beaten opponent to surrender. What a lad. Ensuring dominance in tournament.
I remember joking to a friend that Idra would lose to a hallucination army. The next few days I had off I witnessed it. I almost died. Not a joke, I laughed so hard I almost died. The Grock almost killed me.
Idra was absolutely the late game master but once everyone figured that out he became an easy early game win to cheese and when people didn’t play precisely how he thought they should he went on tilt. He was very fun to watch.
He wasn't good at late game either. People praised his macro, but gold leaguers can spam drones FFS. He was good for only a brief period in SC2 when the actual good players hadn't yet emerged and the game wasn't very figured out. Once a true meta established he just sucked, and then sucked some more, while whining his way into irrelevancy,

I've always respected villains in the gaming community because they're the spice that makes their games so much more fun to watch. Still waiting for one such FChamp or Idra-like heel to emerge for the MTG Arena competitive scene. Would make the Mythic Championships step up and be as big as the game deserves. I appreciate that IdrA was willing and able to show his true emotions, but it's really hard for me to respect people whose true emotions are that hateful.
Look at how hard the internet kicked Chibi (I would appreciate it if you stopped talking meme) while he was on the ground.
