- While NASCAR has had its share of controversies throughout its history, one of the most notable scandals occurred in 2007 with the penalization of Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) at Richmond International Raceway. During the race, MWR allegedly orchestrated a scheme to manipulate the outcome and help their driver, Martin Truex Jr., secure a spot in the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup. Team orders led to intentionally spun cars and questionable pit strategies, which drew the attention of NASCAR officials. As a result, severe penalties were imposed, including point deductions and fines. The incident not only tarnished MWR's reputation but also raised concerns about the integrity of the sport. The Richmond scandal prompted NASCAR to implement changes in rules and officiating procedures to prevent similar occurrences in the future, emphasizing the importance of fair competition and maintaining the trust of fans and participants alike.

the whole '69 dega is the probably the biggest scandal
Michael Waltrip Racing wasn't the only team to manipulate the results at Richmond 2013, Team Penske and Front Row Motorsports colluded to get Joey Logano into the chase instead of Jeff Gordon. NASCAR invoked a hidden rule related to the chase by adding Jeff as a thirteenth player, after Martin Truex Jr of MWR lost his spot in favor of Ryan Newman.
Yeah but Penske didn’t get a penalty

The Michael Waltrip Racing scandal occurred in 2013 not 2007.
They had 2 scandals “ Jet Fuel 2007 “ & SpinGate 2013 “
@@KyleLeeuw Spingate I definitely recognize because of what they did costed Jeff Gordon the chase for a title and it pissed me off. This is a bullshit thing to do and the team eventually got what they deserved.
It’s funny people think jet fuel is something awesome but it’s just purified kerosene.
That first controversy is so ironic now that Bubba is in the Cup Series.
Bubba Wallace has been in the NASCAR Cup series since 2017.
Jet fuel 😆😅🤣
Hahaha
No NASCAR racecar has done 200 mph since 1987.
Not exactly true maybe average speed but in 2014 at Michigan they were going into turn one during qualifying at 214 mph
