10-4 is a term of acknowledgment that you heard and understood what the other person has said at the other end of the CB radio, thus ending the conversation.
10-4 = Transmission received and acknowledged.
The world needs more Dads…..
Real Dads like this Dad…
Ok, I’m officially impressed! If I came home and found my wife plumbing copper, I would lose my mind. So glad she realized her need for gloves before she burned herself. Major kudos!
there is something absolutely relaxing and genuinely friendly about Ben that transpires into every single thing he does or says
Ben is literally the best man I know! I am honored and proud to be his wife! #bestmanever
@@bandmsgaragehe is a lucky man as well, your amazing.
Heat the thickest material and when that is hot enough the solder will suck into the joint. You were right in applying your flux. I wasn't sure if you had plain solder or core filled solder. If it's the latter you don't need to use the flux. Your father was right make sure all your joints are clean else it will develop a leak. Cheers Dean.
Ben I think you deserve a garage, great video keep up the good work God bless from GA stay safe
Not only a learning channel but also a channel that says watch what they're doing and laugh your socks off. 😂😂Thank you for sharing! 👍 😂
10-4 means yes I grew up in the 70s and still have a cb in my Jeep and house
Every house and jeep needs one!
Seeing Ben's reaction when Nattie said that she learned being pulled over by police from Ben was priceless since he can't argue with that at all
In my opinion Murrie did really well soldering since it is about trial and error that is how you learn
you wrapped your teflon backwards
Yes, he did. lol
That's what I thought, wasn't sure if it was a camera trick lol
We could only wish that it was a camera trick. Ben and I both struggle with dyslexia. We figured that issue out, finally🤣🤣
You are wrapping the Teflon tape the wrong direction. It should be installed in the CW direction, so it doesn’t unwrap when you are tightening the connection.
Agreed.
I don’t use thread tape but pipe dope instead. I’ve never had a leak and it’s much easier to just brush it on to fill the threads and screw it together.
Wrap the same direction you are threading on, usually Clockwise.
I always let the tape unroll off the bottom and hold the workpiece in my right hand and wrap clockwise. Thin same direction as you are threading female fitting on.
Just found out myself 10/4 means copy in cb and bus driver language. You probably have 100 comments helping with that.
10-4 means you received or understood, over means you're done with that message and ready for a reply, over and out means you're done with the conversation.
Prior to cell phones, we used CBs in our three vehicle convoy from Great Falls to Tampa, with a new driver in the rocking chair. Back then they were very helpful. Nowadays, not so much.
Look up the radio 10 codes . 10-4 is "acknowledgment that you receive the transmission and understand .
CB stands for Citizens Band. So a CB radio is a Citizens Band radio and used frequencies that were open for public use. 10-4 stands for ‘affirmative’. You have a fun channel with mistakes and other everyday occurrences with no apologies. 😂🎉
I love the way Ben passively aggressively admonished his son, "Somebody's been riding it without checking the oil". And then Murrie comes in and admonishes Ben for his lack of patience, "You couldn't handle watching it anymore?" Made me spit my coffee all over my keyboard.😂😂
Yius are getting it way to hot. Always use solder to check while heating it up. Dont wait for it to change color it to hot
Ben how were you able to stay at Pauls for so long when you have such a strong connection with your wife and kids? That must've been hard for you. B&Ms Garage is living the dream.
I have probably sweated thousands of copper fittings in my life but since the invention of Shark Bite fittings my torch mostly just collects dust. They're easy to use and can be used on a variety of materials. They're also easily removed (no cutting involved). The only problem with them is that they"re not as entertaining to watch on a UA-cam video. Great jobs done by all of you.
Yes I'm a big fan of sharkbite fittings. No wirebrushing pipe and fittings, no cleaning of flux and no leaks.
Sharkbite fittings leak and they are garbage.
@@Ryan_Tidwell I've never had one leak and I've been using them for several years. Maybe you're not installing them properly.
Ya, its rocket science. Cut pipe stick on shark bite. Sounds pretty hard. Probably not up to it. Lol
I don't quite trust them, my water has some odd chemistry. I use them in repairs I can easily reach and keep and eye on! I have never had a failure, which is more then I can say for Copper. But they seem to loose and convenient. Ask me again in 15 years
Having fun to success
You have all of those ball valves be sure and work them all once a month or they will seize up on you
Life long lessons being taught here by doing it yourselves. Awesome
How disappointing wearing a political shirt on a youtube family chanel.
Smart move guys inside the container much easier to heat than outside. Great job on the bike u 2. Murrie shark bits have no need for solder. Roger and out that you copied what was said that's a big 10-4. Great job Ben hopefully the water smells better. Murrie free shower today without soap.
Cb back in the old days. 😅 thanks for making me feel old.
We are in the same boat! Grey hairs and all!!
Ben you're a young man I remember me having a CB in 1970@@bandmsgarage
It always astounds me to hear young people say "'way back in the 90s". That wasn't ''way back", that was like yesterday.
Sweat-soldering 101. The key to a good joint is having clean copper where the solder goes. Clean both parts - only where you want the solder. Use a wire brush or 400 grit sandpaper. I like an internal and external copper-plumbing-brush. Put flux Only where you want the solder-- A Little Bit spread around. Put the parts together. Grab your non-lead solder. Heat up the joint. Pull the torch away, touch the solder to the joint. If it doesn't pull the solder in, move the solder, more heat, Try again. If it only pulls a little in, keep the solder on the joint, and the heat too -- just the tip of the flame at this point. Once you see solder all arond the joint, pull heat and solder away. With solder, too much is no good. Seeing it all around the joint is just right. At this point, I like to use a water-soaked rag and wipe around the joint. A 4"x4" scrap of wool cloth is best -- heat resistant. A cotton towel can work too.
Dumb question but since you said you didn't know what you were doing...you did buy lead free solder right?
I only use the new Blue Pipe Tape.. Its way thicker!!
Oh man.. from the thumbnail of the video I thought you guys had Garth from Waynes World as a special guest this video!!!!!
10-4 signal for OK or UNDERSTOOD
10-4 is a signal for "Okay," or "understood."
If the UV light is covered up, is it really lit up when you turn it on? CB is part of the Emergency Communication System, along with GMRS Radios and HAM radio Systems.
10-4 means you acknowledge and understand
Wish you guys were using pex A which is expansion instead of the PEX b which is crimped. You don't lose pipe size with A because fittings are the full diameter of the pipe.
Love your show !! You guys are doing awesome job on your house don't pay any attention to the critic's
Ha ha! we all have our own methods of lubricating chains.
Use some PJ lube for motorcycle chains it works good. Have a good day and be safe.
I had to Google the origin of code 10s cuz of this video😅. I guess it's old as the 30s and a Charles Hopper invented it for the Illinois State Police. Interesting👍
10-4 means I understand and OK CB Radio is Citizens Band Radio.
Ben how many people told you put the teflon tape on the wrong direction?
It goes on the same direction you twist on your fittings.
Why, because it un twice the Teflon if you don't 🤔
when you put Teflon type always hold the pipe an put the tape always a way from you you put it the other way an it will leak
10-4 means understood... Yes I'm old lol
I like the shirt your wife wore for 5 seconds on the clip. Let's go Brandon! Keep up the great videos. You guys are Awesome 😎
CB's were great until young kids started putting them into their cars and abusing them. 10-4 means that you heard and understood what the other person said. We had a home Base and one in every car. We could reach Alaska on good days with the right conditions, but we had a Tower Antenna.
pipe soldering 101: always clean connections, flux and get hot enough to wick solder into the joint, then take a rag and wipe off excess flux and solder to prevent pipes from turning green...!
OK, scuffed the pipe which is the middle side right and then you gotta use an inside cleaner for the actual bell of the 90. Now everything is scuffed. No you just put a little flux on the inside of the belt and you spin that pipe and then you pull it out and push it in Maybe once or twice depends on how nice to 90 looks. then you take that rag that you’re supposed to have they called a wiping cloth and you wipe off the excess flux. Then it’ll suck in, but if there’s a bunch on there just runs all over everything and sodas the Sodder. Then when you’re all done and you know what you think you’re done, you turn the water on and you check for leaks and when there’s no leaks, you take soap and water and you wash all those connections with soap and water very very thoroughly because flux is actually acid that eat through copper and if you leave it your joints all weekend and you will have leaky joints later.
put the flux on the pipe and the inside of the fitting and make sure everything is sanded bright
We had to chlorine shock our well with 40 gallons of bleach and the rotten egg water was gone
10-4 means "I received your message loud and clear" or "understood."
In a commercial mechanical room, code calls for every valve to be tagged with a number and then a tag schedule to be placed on the wall listing where every valve is and what it does! Of course yours is residential and you know what every valve does. Can't have too many valves! Ben, you were wrapping the teflon tape the wrong direction. Y'all are fun to watch!
I should label them right now before I loose my brain to old age! I think I will be 112 before this house is done😂😂😂
If you wrap it the way the threads turn, it doesn't bunch up or spit it out. And it seals.
When I see professional plumbers use Teflon tape, they usually use what they call Mega Tape and on top of that brush on some Teflon paste.
If that doesn't work, try a airater tank like we use on our wells here in Florida
your wrapping the tape the wrong way.
10-4 means "ok" or "understood"
When soldering never use your fingers to apply flux. The grease from your hand will make it leak always use the brush 🖌️ and when heating up copper pipes always put flux on them heat then keep checking with the solder by touching the solder on it. When you see the solder melt when you apply it to pipe its hot enough. Always heat up the coupling not the pipe. If you put to much heat it will burn off flux so always use the solder to check by touching it on connection. Just a tip😂
FLlux is intended to be heated. Clean all mating surfaces to remove oxidation, flux all mating surfaces, assemble the joint, apply heat to the thickest part of the joint, apply solder to the joint on the opposite side from the heat. When the joint is hot enough the solder will melt and be drawn into the joint towards the heat. You aren't using the flame to melt the solder. When done wipe away excess flux. Don't remove the flame until the solder is applied. Taking the heat away before adding solder will result in cold joints. A cold joint is when the solder only sticks to one side and fills the void. It will look good and feel tight, it may even hold for years until an increase in pressure or a random water hammer forces it apart.
Excellent instruction and easy to understand. Uphill soldier can be difficult.
Not is Murrie a carpenter but now she is a plumber too!
And electrician.
Ben seems like the brother from a different mother which explains everything!
over and out. is referring to the end of a conversation,
CB is for citizens band radio
Citizens Band Radio or CB that’s a big 10-4 affirmative
Up here they were called CBs too but the government name for them was GRS general radio service. We were supposed to have a license to own or operate them.
@@georgevindo Amateur radios (also known as HAM radios) require a special amateur license to use but are great for general and emergency communications.
10-4 is a signal for "Okay," or "understood." It is mainly used by police officers all across North America.
Someone build Ben a shop !!!
I have had a lot better luck with the liquid pipe sealer (permatex makes the white stuff) on bigger joints and such. Also use it on head and intake bolts going into water jackets. 10-4? Just make sure she doesn't need to go 10-100.😆...🤓
I've never had any luck with the liquid sealers, I'll stick with thread tape lol
10-4 means ok, you acknowledge what they are saying. CB. Stands for citizens Band radio. You want to wrap the teflon tape the same direction you are tightening the nut. And only go around about three times, because filling the threads with too much can cause the nut to split and fail
I was raised on Sulphur water , so I know that smell very well . Kind of like (scratch and sniff) water 😮😅
Sulphur water is great for your skin and hair.
@@mel-il4yu We didn't get sick as often as most back then and when we did , it didn't last long . Sulfur is pretty good medicine it seems .
@@gregoryfranklin5108 Yes, it must be. I remember powdered sulphur and molasses as a tonic.
👍
Marie, YOU are REMARKABLE!!!! A MODEL and an INSPIRATION!!!! Or as Ben said, AMAZING!!!!! Go on with your good self!!!!
Trucker 1: Break 19, we got a bubble gum machine with a bird dog at mile marker 23
Trucker 2: 10-4
"roger that, for sure for sure"
10-4 in radio communications, still used, means that you acknowledge hearing transmission from others. Or that you agree to others transmissions.
I don't usually comment but 10-4 means i hear you,,like when you hear a trucker say 10-4 good buddy 😂
Also on cb subject I am 63 years old and I had one in my personal car in the mid 1970s 😊😊😊
Plumbing is a great thing to know how to do
It's time for the 'Benny and Marie' family hour...Tune in and see what they're working on this week. We have Oaker with a slight drip from an important area, and Marie trying to make more spots Not drip in the house. "What's that smell", you ask? We'll just say that's Ben's. fault.
Ben, on your Teflon tape wrap from where I'm sitting it looked like you went counter clock on the fitting. How did that turn out or was it an optical illusion? lol & head scratch
nope I did it the wrong way it came off had to redo it
Ben...you put the teflon on backwards. when you screw on the fitting, it lifts the tape. The expansion tanks need to be vertical with the connections on the bottom. Love you all.
Yep unless its a left-hand thread you are running the tape in the wrong direction. That way the fitting will unravel the tape and defeat the purpose of the tape. And the soldering was interesting. You clean both fittings then add flux to both pieces. Then you apply heat to each side of the fitting. Not directly on the joint. Keep applying the solder till it starts to melt and fill the joint. If your fitting is getting ridiculously dark you overheated the fitting. This oxidized the fitting and the solder won't stick.
Yep I did it wrong
My dad was a plumber and would be laughing at yall soldering, but I would laugh at him because he couldn't weild like me and stay safe from GA
I remember my Dad soldering with a white gas blow torch and the copper soldering iron. Also melting lead and packing cast iron joints with oakum and lead.
Great job guys. Just a note, when you use Teflon tape, you are supposed to put it on the pipe clockwise, when you look at the end of the pipe. Otherwise, you will remove the Teflon when you screw your fitting on the treads. I find that you are taking a great protect, and you will be proud of your achievements once it is done. Good job. 👍👍
Og man, a TW!! Such a great machine. I went to get my endorsement on one, it was about 40 degrees and pouring, rain the trooper gave me a pass because I showed up.
Wintertires will give you a good solution for the bad winter weather. Compulsary in Sweden.
I feel the same when I have to do plumbing at my house. If it leaks and I don't have water, I'm going to cry
great job again.
heat the fitting
“Don’t hit my bushes,” lol!😂
cleaning the copper pipe with sandpaper or a wire brush, inside and out is the key.
On soldering copper pipe you need the flux which is used to help keep the joint clean of oxides to allow the solder to adhere to the copper then heat the copper till it's hot enough to melt the solder make sure the heat is applied for instance if you want the solder the pipe to the joint on the bottom as you have it on the ground have most of the heat going in to the joint hold the solder in your other hand and touch the end of the solder just above top edge of the joint and as it starts to flow it will go into the joint. Just follow the edge around the joint till is fully soldered. If you apply the heat directly to the solder it will melt before the copper is hot enough for it to stick to the copper.
Thank you!! That is exactly what was happening. Hopefully I can do better the next time. Thanks for watching and help us.
Just throwing this out there, but I live close to you guys and I am a plumber. I'm more than happy to teach you guys if you have more copper work to do.
thanks for the support
thats a BIG 10-4
Sounds like you guys have sulfur water if it smells like eggs. We had sulfur water growing up as a kid back in the early 1970s oh so long a go. We only used it for showering 🚿 and doing laundry. For drinking water we took jugs to the laundry mat in town every other week and got fresh city water. Great video today.

Have you shocked your well with bleach? It kills bacterial iron which makes the rotten eggs smell. Bacterial Iron in the water is a common problem where I live and this helps.
Just make sure that you flush it out very well, it will give you the 💩’s
@@Katter715 There are procedures to do this. When you flush the well you don’t want all the bleach water going into the septic.
Love the videos 😊
Depending on how deep your well is, I hope a one-way check valve was installed between the well pump and the water softener system. Our well was 145' deep, and the well contractor did not install the check valve. When the nipple on the well pump failed the head drop cavitated the resin tank and destroyed it. We had to replace the system and made damn sure I installed a check valve between the well head and the pressure tank!
Hopefully you don’t have to Sheetrock that mechanical room now.
