Most of rockstar games cutscenes are rendered in game meaning that sometimes the lighting can be different depending on the time of day and weather effects. You can also have odd sound effects as the game world carries on as normal while the cutscene plays. This can lead to some hilarious scenarios where a character can be set on fire for example while a cutscene plays.
The Last of Us video was great that it showed us not only the cutscenes, but also parts of gameplay when something important happened. This one shows purely cutscenes so you will be missing some of the context of what happened in the game story wise.
i don’t know if this has been answered but yes, you can do these missions at any time of day, so sometimes the lighting is amazing but if you catch a mission at a bad time of day it’ll just look ugly
@@kaizammitalso, i do recommend watching the silent hill 2 remake cutscenes, they’re a little confusing even WITH playing the game but the cinematography and soundtrack and stuff is really nice, i definitely recommend it

around 45:00, you saw the screen turned orange with a windy sound and asked "wow what was that?" that's called "dead-eye" it is a skill that we can activate as a player to slow (nearly freeze) time, so we can easily aim and shoot it is not unlimited, and later in the game, it allows you to put target, and once you deactivate the deadeye, marston will auto-aim and shoot every target in less than a second to the player, it's a super-power, story-wise, it is used to show and justify how John Marston and Arthur (rdr 2) are good shots, better than most, it's the equivalent of western movie when a character shot someone before anyone noticed he drew the gun. it is used to establish a certain level as a shooter as you may sometimes encounter someone, use the dead-eye, and still the person will be faster than you, shoot you first and deactivate your deadeye, because he's a better shooter than you.
Since you're a filmmaker, you should know that Dan Houser, the Ex-President of R*, pretty much wrote AND directed all of his games with cinematic depth!
One thing that is pretty important to know is that these are open world games, and so these cutscenes play out (in real time) at the time of day (and weather) whenever the player decides to do the missions in the game. Same with the strange sound effects, it’s like a horse or an npc walking by randomly it’s not part of the cutscene they created
This is going to be amazing! Always love your cinematic breakdown with these kai zammit! The intro alone is iconic, red dead redemption, and its sequel/prequel are really great games!
with Red dead redemption 2 , you got content to react for 3 months, that game is too big. They (Rockstar) did different takes of cutscenes depending on time of day in game.

Fun fact about the actor who plays John Marston (Rob Wiethoff) his real life voice is virtually unchanged from the character John Marston. When asked about it he said that he auditioned with his normal voice and they liked it 😂 glad you like it too
Oh really! Actually, now you've said that I auditioned a guy for his VO and I loved it. Hired him for a TV advert with his normal voice. Just a little sailor from Cornwall, UK.
@@kaizammit haha that’s really neat. Sometimes the best actor is no actor at all, that way nothing comes off forced. Obviously Kai, you should definitely follow up with Red Dead Redemption 2 because the story of that game is beautiful and really strikes a chord with everyone that I know who has played it. However, once you have finished with that I recommend you check out another Rockstar Game: L.A. Noire. Has to be one of my all time favourites! Though I’m not sure about UA-cam’s policies for it. The game has a lot of nudity, but if you’re able to I’d love to see your thoughts on it. I wrote this to my film teacher in college: L.A. Noire is a game that feels more like an interactive film noir masterpiece than a traditional video game. Its meticulously crafted cinematography-complete with chiaroscuro lighting, dramatic framing, and period-accurate set designs-captures the essence of 1940s Los Angeles. The groundbreaking use of MotionScan technology for facial animations elevates character performances, making every interrogation and subtle reaction feel deeply cinematic. The narrative structure, told through a series of investigations, mirrors classic detective films, blending suspense, moral ambiguity, and character-driven storytelling. Exploring this world feels like stepping into a living, breathing noir film, with you at the centre of the action. I’d love to hear how the game’s visual storytelling and direction resonate with your filmmaker’s eye. Many thanks, Skeletor, King of Snake Mountain
I know everybody is excited about RDR2 but this game for it's own generation was also a gem. Still holds up to this day. If you react to RDR2 I highly advise to do this on those longer "all cutscences" videos that go for 6 or even 8 hours (maybe even 10 or 12 haha) since they have also cutscenes from side missions that are more or less essential to the protagonist's redemption.
Red dead 1 with 2 is a top 3 gaming story of all time, would love to see u do Red Dead 2, maybe even play it, even tho that doesn’t rly seem to be your thing. The prequel will leave an impression on u that’ll last forever, believe me. Just like the first one did for me and many others back in the day
Plenty I hope, January is about trying lots of different franchises before we dive back in on the TLOU part 2. This is also including the TV shows I'm putting on the Patreon too.
I definitely recommend watching Red Dead Redemption 2's cutscenes aswell, it's been debated that it's the greatest game of all time-- not just story wise, but visually too!
Love that you're doing this game, but I have to say, if you're that impressed by the look of this game, your mind will be absolutely blown by RDR2. You have to do it next.
46:20 that was the dead eye ability, basicly slows down time so you can mark targets on areas you aim depending how much ammo your guns has on the chamber, to quickly shoot all targets in quick speed and 100% accuracy, a good ability but it drains alot depending how long you have it activated when selecting targets, this mission its teaching the player to use it if im not mistaken
This game is so good and its prequel Red Dead Redemption 2 is even better. This game takes place in 1911 and John has been out of the gunslinger life for many years which is why he was so rusty. $15 in 1911 is worth about $500 today. The Red Dead Redemption games have always had some level of realism to them. Red Dead 2 is considered very realistic to the old west. This one has a bit more fantasy to it like an old western movie and the second game has a bit of that too. You might notice that in the music. These games are meant to be a videogame version of an old 1950s western movie. I feel like they capture that feeling pretty well. Seth is quite the character and I do believe he is inspired by Golem. He talks to himself a lot. He actually has this really funny line where he starts talking to himself like Gollum and then calls John crazy after John asks him why he was talking to himself. He then gaslights John into thinking he heard nothing. The whole thing is kinda funny. 1:23:33 That is probably one of my favorite lines. 1:26:00 I love this whole part too. Its funny seeing Irish and Shaky going at each other.
Westerns are one of my weaknesses. And both Red Ded games are some of the best ive seen for the western genre. The character growth you see is amazing. I hope youll enjoy the ride on the saddle, Kai!
Now get ready for red dead 2, since it has an incredible story and will change your views of this story by alot, assuming you haven't played it of course, highly recommend you react to it since it may be one of the greatest games ever made, but judging how much content there is it's gonna be a lot of work, really enjoying the content keep up the work ❤
Really really good part 1. I never played this game. I played Red Dead Revolver as a kid but never played this or red dead 2 so watching this is so crazy interesting. Very fun to watch you see this for the first time as well as myself. Bosses were kind of gimmicky in Red Dead Revolver but it was a fun game if I remember correctly, this seems more side quest oriented but still a very good video but you can tell for the time they had to make some cuts to how it was filmed / mocaped due to limitations. Thanks for another great post mate, looking forward to the next one.
Oh yeah! I was waiting for this, Red Dead is my favorite saga, there's actually a previous one called Red Dead Revolver but it's honestly not too good. In the other hand, I'm sure you've seen people telling you, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best game ever created, you can either watch just the story, just side missions, both, doesn't matter because it's gonna be as good and long af. The characters are one of the best written in video game history, the performance and voice acting is cheffs kiss. Also the graphics will BLOW you away, seriously. The story ties with rdr2, when you react to it you'll be able to see how the actions of this game affected the story you saw in rdr1, it's amazing.. By the way, rockstar games are different from any other game because it's open world, this means that you can enter missions whenever you want, it's not a straight storyline without cuts, you go to where the map points you at and if you feel like it start the mission that will progress the story.
Ar 46:26 its one of the ingames shooting mechanics called dead eye, it allows you to shopt targets quickly and accurately. Also lighting can vary from scene to scene depending on what time of day you play it as its open world, however some missions will make you play at specific times. Also Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to Red Dead Redemption 1, I cant wait to see you react to RDR2 because the way that game is crafted in story, filmmaking and game design is masterful, the character work in both rdr games are also some of the best in gaming plus you’ll have more than enough content to watch😭😭 happy new year!
Red Dead part 2 is one of the best games of all time imo. Some of the best character development and storytelling I've seen in a game. The protagonist is probably my favorite video game character. And really, all the characters, thr cinematography, music, the attention to detail. It's all fantastic. Also gets really emotional. The game reacts to your actions, so please choose a video with a "good' playthrough. And this game is damn long, I think the reaction may be several seasons long 😅 Never actually finished Red Dead 1, so super cool to see the rest of the story. Great game, but they stepped it up for the sequel.
In the Red Dead games, yes, the lighting in the cutscenes is MOSTLY determined by the time of day when you do them. In that sense, the game feels a lot more natural during play since time doesn't switch up too often, but at the same time, it removes a lot of possibilities for cinematic lighting. In RDR2 this still happens, but it also advances time more often so the cutscene takes place with proper lighting.
You are going to LOVE rdr2, one of the most beautiful games ever. Whenever I play it, I actually spend a lot of time using the in game photo mode because it is genuinely worth taking pictures of all the landscapes and scenery. Also some of the most well written dialogue and most believable characters.
I don't want to hype it up, but you are going to LOSE YOUR MIND over Red Dead 2. Probably the most cinematic a video game has ever been. And, in my opinion, it tells the best story with the best acting that's ever been in a video game.
6:05 now that i think of it, the way the lady talks about it, kinda makes reference to the honor system both red dead redemption 1 and 2 has in wich how impacts the world around the player in both games in benefits both low and high honor gives to the player and how they react to stuff (and how the endings play out in the second game)
I'm looking forward to it if you also make a video on Red Dead Redemption 2! and the quests can only be visited between certain times, which means that you always have the same time of day in the cutscenes.
Mate, you've got to react to cinematics of Devil May Cry 5... it's quirky, flashy, and badass rolled into one!!! Not to mention excellent action choreography.
I cant wait for you to react to red dead 2, it will be interesting to hear your insight on it because its one of the most visually stunning and cinematic games I've ever played. Has to be one of my favourite games off all time, with an amazing story that truly transcends its medium. I'd say it's the best video game story ever written.
Oh hell yeah. I love Red Dead Redemption 1. Shame it misses out a bit of in mission dialogue though Also yeah the time of day in many of the missions is dependent on when you do them but some are locked to certain hours of the day
I wish these cutscenes included traveling and the shootouts. You know like a little montage or something. I think it would help add a little more context to the scenes.
can't wait to see the red dead 2 reaction video that'll be awesome an i think you'll love of good it looks as the gameplay can look like a movie at times
Damn it Kai just make a gaming channel already! Jokes aside, experiencing these games through cutscenes alone is a crime, you are not just "leaving some meat on the bone", but you are barely nibbling at it.
Asking if a Rockstar game is long is a bit of a rhetorical question lol, but makes sense you wouldn't know that. Rockstar normally gives pretty good mileage per game. They also put out a standalone game based in the same setting, but not the same continuity, as this one but it's all zombie themed: "Undead Nightmare". It's really good and pretty long too (from what i remember at least)
$15 back then was anywhere from 1-4 weeks or so worth of work living on $5-$10/week if even that. The average pay was around $1-$2/day for a "higher" end job. So if you made around $150-$300/year you were living pretty good, and more than that, you were living like a king. This was in the 1800's in the wild west. A lot of people only made $0.40-$1 per day. But it wasn't so bad if you had a garden and raised your own livestock which majority of households did. So most only made between $2-4/week
Let me tell you that red dead redemption has LOTS of content specifically the 2nd one of course whether you choose to watch all the cutscenes with the side missions as well is entirely up to you i will warn you it will take mutiple videos to cover rdr2 with side missions but it's still very entertaining as its literally like you're watching a movie 🔥
It'd be super interesting to see Kai react to mediocre games like Outlaws or Forspoken. Not the entire game, mind you. That would be torture for all involved 😂 but it'd be super fun to see him react to them in a popourri like video.
This is the first I've seen of you, but I'm enjoying this so far. Have you considered actually doing a Play Through for Red Dead 2? You might be able to get a lot of views on UA-cam; there aren't many quality playthroughs these days.
Thank you for checking out the video! I'd love to play it but the problem I have is I'm unable to talk Filmmaking as I play, every time I've tried, I just turn into a gamer and have fun 😆
@@kaizammitYou'd be forgiven for a game of that caliber, plus i dont think we'd mind a slower playthrough where youd give some insight while still allowing yourself to be immersed
No way the person that made that cutscenes video skipped the first horse ride to Mexico! A simple horse ride but acompanied by a beautiful song "Far Away" by Jose Gonzalez. That is one of the best moments in this game! Shame.
Please sir, it would make my day if you react to Read dead redemption 2 aswell! 😭 The story and cinematic is masterpiece. I love to see your reaction, great video as always.
They updated lighting and quality of textures. Original nowadays looks worse, by a lot. As I always said, lighting can do a lot of graphics, without the need of quality textures
Any chance you could start uploading at LEAST at 1080p60fps? As is at 30fps seems clunky and the graphics aren't nearly as smooth nor look as good as it should for us. Keep up the awesome work!
You should check out gta 4 and gta 5 story maybe even the other 2 dlc's for 4 as well (while gta 4's story can be a bit dark there's still some funny scenes , gta 5 same thing)

Shame it misses out a bit of in mission dialogue though
Also yeah the time of day in many of the missions is dependent on when you do them but some are locked to certain hours of the day
I hope you do RDR2 after this, I can’t wait til you see how much better they improved it. Plus the story is just *chefs kiss*
We been waiting on this one
Please make Mass effect legendry edition please please please:(
you should do a trailer breakdown for rdr2
I wish these cutscenes included traveling and the shootouts. You know like a little montage or something. I think it would help add a little more context to the scenes.
can't wait to see the red dead 2 reaction video that'll be awesome an i think you'll love of good it looks as the gameplay can look like a movie at times
Still very safe and secured spot in my TOP 10❤️ Red Dead is art! Sweet memories.
Damn it Kai just make a gaming channel already!
Jokes aside, experiencing these games through cutscenes alone is a crime, you are not just "leaving some meat on the bone", but you are barely nibbling at it.
Gonna love the reaction to these because Red Dead is ono of the best series I've ever played, the stories are incredible. I hope u enjoy em!
Please watch the cutscenes from the dlc Undead nightmare too 🙏
That dlc is hilarious
Yess been waiting for this, cant wait for rdr2
awesome i cannot wait for you to check out rdr2 ur the GOAT!!
You need to find a video with some of the gameplay sections.
one of the best games ive played growing up! Story was so amazing. Hope you can do the undead nightmare too.
If you would like to react to another older game you should definitely check out LA Noire
Hey I was wondering if you'd seen the trailers for the game Marvel Rivals ? They're insanely high quality so you should give them a try
I've not no, alright I'll check them out.
Aside from GoW, this series was the one I wanted to see your reactions to especially the second one.
1:51:02 can you translate Spanish into English? I’m not even going to answer that
The subtitles are in Spanish so I'm guessing you can't. They really want you to feel like Marston, a man long away from his home.
You will love Red Dead 2
This is the first I've seen of you, but I'm enjoying this so far. Have you considered actually doing a Play Through for Red Dead 2? You might be able to get a lot of views on UA-cam; there aren't many quality playthroughs these days.
Thank you for checking out the video! I'd love to play it but the problem I have is I'm unable to talk Filmmaking as I play, every time I've tried, I just turn into a gamer and have fun 😆
@kaizammit haha fair enough! I'll still be watching!
@@kaizammitYou'd be forgiven for a game of that caliber, plus i dont think we'd mind a slower playthrough where youd give some insight while still allowing yourself to be immersed
Damn, RDR2 is on the menu?! All aboard the hype train 🤠
It's coming!
51:46 …literally most media is like that where the main plot is serious but theres still moments of levity and comedy
When will the last of us part 2 vid be out?
You’re gonna love rdr2!
1:38:48 sigh…Its like you’ve never seen either
Seen what?
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Please react to Red Dead 2 after this one
Did't expect red dead, play the tapes!
As a God Fearin, Gun Totin, American loving Patriot, i too like Hagis.
Just reading the words made my lips moisten up. 😂
I would really appreciate it if you could bring to the channel 'Death Stranding' and the 'Metal Gear Solid' saga 😊
You’ve gotta do read dead redemption 2
No way the person that made that cutscenes video skipped the first horse ride to Mexico! A simple horse ride but acompanied by a beautiful song "Far Away" by Jose Gonzalez. That is one of the best moments in this game! Shame.
Please sir, it would make my day if you react to Read dead redemption 2 aswell! 😭 The story and cinematic is masterpiece. I love to see your reaction, great video as always.
Hope he does Undead Nightmare next.
It's something I can look at, it depends on what the video is I'm watching.
@kaizammit If not, all good. I just appreciate you attempting to check into it.
@@ActuallyJamie gotcha ✌🏻
This game’s graphics are dated by the voice acting and dialogue hold up well. Glad you chose to react to it.
Please please please continue this with RDR2 after.
The lighting is slightly better in the PC port.
Please do RDR 2 and Assassin's Creed Origins
You should check out the metal gear solid series. Much different compared to Metal gear rising.
Oh no sir. Now you have to watch red dead redemption 2s cutscenes as well 😂
Red dead redemption 2 is like a movie
There is a video on youtube that looks at a cutscene in RDR1 vs star wars be great to see a reaction given your background.
Because Star Wars has a future western feel to it?
@kaizammit the scenes are similar but it's more so how the scene are done that's interesting and the shots both games use.
I really should play RDR again it's been way to long, such a good game
You should check out gta 4 and gta 5 story maybe even the other 2 dlc's for 4 as well (while gta 4's story can be a bit dark there's still some funny scenes , gta 5 same thing)
You should react to the marvels spiderman games, I just finished spiderman 2 and it’s amazing, you neeeeeed to watch those games
Speak Mexican is wild it’s Spanish
