    I really love to watch you fish. I'm quadriplegic and live in a nursing home and enjoy the action and reality of the trips you take.

    why use the wind on at all? why not just splice the mono into your main line? Availability of changing leader sizes?

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  3 роки тому +1

      Couple reasons. You can't mismatch braid to leader sizes. IE if I'm using a 300# wind on, I need to make the loop out of 300# braid. My reels are all spooled up to 130# so that would be impossible. The other reason is leader changes as you have mentioned. One leader gets burned on the bottom of the boat or similar and I can change leaders in 2 minutes and get back in the game.

    Awesome content! Question, Whats the easiest method to disconnect the connection from the main line to leader line. Cut it? That would suck considering how much time we spend pre making all our wind on leaders in different test lines. Say you want to switch from a light leader to a heavier leader. Once the two loops from each line are connected via cats paw connection it seems damn near impossible to disconnect them from each other. I would like to see a video of you swapping from one leader to another. Thanks.

      Typically we cut the windon loop near the catspaw and pull it through. You can unloop them but it takes a lot of work and you'll need a braid needle. Be careful not to damage the braid.

    In calm water ok / but at sea?

      WE do it all the time on the boat but if you can rig up at home the night before, go for it!

    That is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I wonder if I can do that for a rope I have for a dock line. In stead of having a knot

      Yup. It's called splicing rope. Lots of videos on the net. It takes a little practice but it's clean and strong. Good luck.,

    Thanks very much for making all the videos, very helpful. Would this work with solid braid mainline with a Bimini to hollowcore loop and mono. Don’t think the solid would cut through the hollow? would you do a different loop to loop connection if you were using solid mainline? Thanks!

      WE love to share! Solid braid with a bimini loop works fine. We have done it many times.

    Can you take the leader back off without cutting it?

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, but you really have to pick the connection apart carefully with a braid needle. It's almost not worth the time. You can also cut the loop in the mainline close to the connection, pull on it and make another.

    keeps saying very easy and got me lost from the 1st minute. just put the mono into the hollow braid . why make it complicated.

    • @LocalKnowledge

      So we can change them out quickly. Google cats paw connection. There might be an animated version that makes it more clear.

    Can a Squall 60ldlh handle a 100lb tuna? Thinking getting a set up for 100lbers tunas and I’m a lefty. Any suggestions thanks 🎣🤙🏾

      I'd step up to a fathom for fish that big. It's a beefier reel all around and you don't want to take a chance with a trophy on the line.

    What is the point of a wind on leader? Just another name for a top shot

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  4 роки тому +2

      No knots or swivels to a leader. It's 100% strengtyh connection and you can wind a big fish right to the boat without having to hand off the line to a "leaderman".

    Why not Bimini knot on the main line side? Any advantages for splicing it?

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  3 роки тому +1

      That's our second choice. Splices are 100% connection and go through the guides like butter. It's just a cleaner option.

      @@LocalKnowledge IYO what takes longer to make... a Bimini at the main line or a splice at the main line ?

    what if u have mono on your reel

    • @LocalKnowledge
      @LocalKnowledge  4 роки тому

      This is for a braid to leader connection. You'd take the mono off and make a loop in your braid. Then you'd connect the wind on leader by a cats paw, loop to loop connection. Hope this helps.
