    Director John Boorman wanted the forest scenes in the movie to have a magical look to them so he used a large Green light shining at the actors as you will see glints of green on metal throughout the movie. Beautifully done and brilliant decision on his behalf.

    • @50srefugee
      @50srefugee 3 роки тому +7

      But there are at least two scenes that lack the green light:
      The scene where Arthur submits to Uryens' mercy, bidding Uryens to either knight him, or slay him. Merlin is stunned, saying "What's this? I never saw this!" It is not a magical scene, but a testament to the will, courage, and honor of both men. (Yes, the same Uryens we see here demanding another chance to draw Excalibur. )
      And at the very end, when Percival returns Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake. It is a moment steeped in mystery and miracle, but it is the passing of magic from the world, and again, there is no green light.
      It has been pointed out to me that a couple of scenes are lit with blue light, notably when Percival achieves his Quest for the Grail, suggesting that where green signifies the Old Magic, blue indicates a holy Christian influence.
      And upon rewatching Percival returning Excalibur, I see there is a moment where, as the sword flies to the Lady's hand, it glints blue. Perhaps this suggests Excalibur now serves God, or is in His keeping.
      It's hard not to believe that Boorman was working under Godly inspiration to get such details right.

    I used to think it was funny, that everyone was YELLING all the time.
    But now I figure, those dudes were wearing metal helmets all the time. Probably hard to hear your buddy talking, when you’re wearing one. Plus, all that clanging of metal and getting bashed in the head, probably made them half deaf. So I get it now.

    It’s the best Arthur movie out there I would say. Proper 80s film. Bit like Highlander etc you could get away with it back then and be a classic. Nowadays people don’t have imagination. You make a film like that now you would have all the history virgins coming out the woodwork that have destroyed Braveheart recently. Movies are made to entertain and I think this has the most entertaining Arthur based script in the movie industry
